Surprise! Dwyane Wade to the Bulls? Posted: 02 Jul 2010 08:56 PM PDT Going into the 2010 NBA free agency period, everyone assumed that Dwyane Wade would be recruiting superstars to Miami to join him with the Heat. Just a few days later and Heat fans have to be in a panic. Reports indicate that Wade is meeting a second time with the Chicago Bulls and he’s very serious about switching teams. While a very surprising turn of events, Wade to Chicago makes sense for a number of reasons. First of all, Wade is from Chicago and still has a home and family in the city. Secondly, the Bulls have an enticing combination of both cap space and a number of quality pieces already in place including Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah. Why would Wade leave Miami? It’s rather simple: If no superstar goes to Miami, Wade will find himself in a situation where it’d be impossible to win a championship. As it stands, the Heat only have a couple players under contract. It’s just not practical for the Heat to re-sign Wade and field a contender without landing a superstar. In the next couple of days, expect the Heat to really go out and seek that superstar they can put next to Wade. If they aren’t successful, they may very well lose Wade, too. Post from: EveryJoe |
Brazil Chokes, Out of World Cup Posted: 02 Jul 2010 08:55 PM PDT Going into Friday’s quarterfinals game against the Netherlands, Brazil was widely considered the favorite to win the World Cup. They had just way too much firepower, too much talent, too much strength and too much experience, right? In fact, fans of Brazil were already tossing around huge replicas of the World Cup trophy in their last game. A fun thing happened to Brazil on their way to the finals … they lost to the Dutch. Yes, the Netherlands beat Brazil 2-1. In the first half, Brazil scored first and looked well on their way to another victory. After halftime, however, the Netherlands woke up and stunned Brazil with a pair of goals. Wesley Sneijder’s goal in the 68th minute put the Dutch up for good. Now all the Netherlands has to do is beat Uruguay to reach the World Cup finals. Uruguay made it to the semifinals by defeating Ghana on Friday. Post from: EveryJoe |
Research Shows Sugar Can Cause Hypertension Posted: 02 Jul 2010 07:22 PM PDT Everyone knows that salt can adversely affect blood pressure. And now new research shows that sugar, including high fructose corn syrup, can cause hypertension too. ![]() Image: sxc.hu Over 4,500 men and women with no previous history of high blood pressure were part of a study at University of Colorado. Research showed that those participants with diets that contained 74 grams of high fructose products had up to a 77 percent higher risk of hypertension. The study also indicated that the more fructose in the diet, the more likely for an increase in blood pressure. And though other factors have to be considered (stress, exercise, etc), this research certainly indicates that there is a connection between sugar and high blood pressure. Post from: EveryJoe |
Paris Hilton Detained for Pot at World Cup Posted: 02 Jul 2010 10:02 AM PDT Paris Hilton came under investigation by South African police on Friday when someone in her entourage was smoking marijuana during the World Cup quarter final match between Netherlands and Brazil. ![]() Maybe it's the weed that causes Paris's wonky eye? (Image: WENN.com) Initial reports were that it wasn’t Paris that was smoking, but that she had weed on her. She was taken into custody at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium and detained at the police station for questioning. However a rep for Ms Hilton told TMZ that Paris has been released and “the culprit has already pled guilty, paid a small fine and was released.” Post from: EveryJoe |
