Lindsay Lohan Booked Into Jail Posted: 20 Jul 2010 04:24 PM PDT In case you care, Lindsay Lohan began her 90-day sentence at Lynwood’s Century Regional Detention Facility (CRDF) today. Due to overcrowding, it’s expected that Lindsay serves only a fraction of her sentence – maybe 20 days or so. However, she might get a few extra days for her “FUCK U” nail. CRDF is the same facility where Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie served time for their DUIs. Lindsay can have visitors and receive care packages. She’ll probably be allowed to keep taking Ambien and Adderall. All in all, it’s not a bad deal. And she’ll probably get some steep offers for her first interview when she gets out. ![]() Image: Los Angeles County Post from: EveryJoe |
Piniella to Retire as Cubs Manager Posted: 20 Jul 2010 12:30 PM PDT Chicago Cubs manager Lou Piniella spent 18 years in the major leagues as a player and another 22 years as a manager. On Tuesday, the 66-year-old announced that he will retire at the end of the season. ![]() Image: TSN.ca Piniella made five trips to the World Series in his career, winning three. Though he may consider doing some consulting part-time, Piniella wants out of the daily grind to spend more time with his family. “I’ve been away from home since 1962. That’s about 50 years,” Piniella said. Piniella retires as the 14th-winningest manager in major league baseball history. Post from: EveryJoe |

Raptors Try to Illegally Trade for Matt Barnes Posted: 19 Jul 2010 08:56 PM PDT It’s been a tough summer for the Toronto Raptors. First they lose Chris Bosh, their franchise player, to the Miami Heat. Then they overpaid for average players, namely $34 million for Amir Johnson. Then they had a trade unravel when the Charlotte Bobcats backed out at the last second. On Monday, the Raptors saw another trade unravel that would have brought Matt Barnes to Toronto. But this time, it was their fault. Somehow general manager Bryan Colangelo doesn’t know the rules regarding NBA trades and ended up agreeing to an illegal trade. The two-year, $9 million contract Colangelo promised Barnes simply wasn’t possible. Rumors indicate that the Raptors are calling it a “miscalculation”. Really? Miscalculations can happen in a fantasy league but shouldn’t happen in the NBA. Barnes will now go back on the open market and look for a comparable deal — and one that isn’t illegal. Titans Finally Pay Chris Johnson Posted: 19 Jul 2010 08:55 PM PDT Last season, Chris Johnson rushed for 2,006 yards, scored 16 touchdowns, totaled 503 receiving yards and caught 50 passes. Despite those numbers, the Tennessee Titans tried to get him to play the 2010 NFL for only $550,000. On Monday, the Titans finally wised up and gave Johnson a contract that will pay him $2.5 million next season. While Johnson will still be underpaid, this new contract is definitely a step in the right direction. Now that he has his contract, he’ll focus his energies at accomplishing his goal of breaking the NFL rushing record, which is currently 2,105 yards by Eric Dickerson. For the Titans, they had to do this. If Johnson had held out, their season would have been over before it started. With Johnson running the ball, the Titans have to be considered one of the top ten teams in the NFL. Will Chris Johnson break the rushing record? Probably not. He took a pounding last season and will take a pounding early this season. His explosiveness is elite right now but is likely to become more average once those hits add up. Post from: EveryJoe |
