JaMarcus Russell Likes That Purple Drank Posted: 05 Jul 2010 08:55 PM PDT JaMarcus Russell’s is already known as the biggest bust in NFL history. Now, after an arrest on Monday for possession of codeine syrup, Russell is likely to become the poster boy for purple drank — the popular drug that typically combines codeine syrup with 7UP and Jolly Ranchers. Russell was arrested at his Mobile, Alabama home after an undercover investigation and was later released from jail on a $2,500 bond. Authorities say that Russell didn’t have a prescription for the cough syrup (obviously) but they didn’t reveal how much of it was found at his home. Purple drank continues to grow in popularity, especially in the southern part of the United States. Hip hop stars such as DJ Screw and Pimp C played a big part in promoting the use of the drug. Unfortunately, DJ Screw and Pimp C both died as a result of their purple drank usage. As for Russell, this might officially close the door on his NFL career. The No. 1 overall pick of the 2007 NFL Draft, Russell was just horrible as the quarterback for the Oakland Raiders. For his career, Russell had 18 touchdowns to go with 23 interceptions, 22 fumbles and a QB rating of 65.2. Post from: EveryJoe |
Where Will Shaquille O'Neal Sign? Posted: 05 Jul 2010 08:23 PM PDT Quietly, Shaquille O’Neal is a free agent. With LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh hogging the headlines, you’d never know it. But don’t think 38-year-old Shaq is thinking about retirement. In fact, Shaq says he wants to play for another two or three years. Where will Shaquille O’Neal sign? The most likely destination is the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavs will lose Erick Dampier and may lose Brendan Haywood. If that happens, Shaq will fit snugly in the middle next to Dirk Nowitzki. Another possible free agent destination for Shaq is Atlanta. The Hawks have a rather small team and that trait has hurt the squad in the playoffs. Shaq by himself could help the Hawks go from small to big in a heartbeat. Since starting center Kendrick Perkins will miss the start of next season due to a knee injury, the Boston Celtics could use Shaq. They’d likely only want him for one season but Shaq could join the Celtics to try to get a ring. If LeBron re-signs with the Cavs, there’s talk that he will ask Cleveland to bring back Shaq. And when LeBron talks, the Cavs listen. Look for Shaq to end up signing a contract worth around $12 million over two seasons no matter where he ends up signing in free agency. Post from: EveryJoe |

Health Insurance for Pre-Existing Conditions Posted: 05 Jul 2010 05:32 PM PDT About 60 million Americans are affected by a lack of health insurance. Some are unemployed, some simply can’t afford insurance, and others suffer from pre-existing conditions and can’t find anyone to cover them. If you have a pre-existing condition, there’s now some hope – the Affordable Care Act Program. ![]() Image: istockphoto The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced the establishment of a new Pre-existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP) last week that offers coverage to uninsured Americans who have been unable to obtain health coverage because of a pre-existing health condition. This plan will provide a new health coverage option for those who have been uninsured for at least six months, have been unable to get health coverage because of a health condition, and are a U.S. citizen or are residing in the United States legally. This initiative is a stop-gap until 2014, when insurers will be barred from from discriminating against adults with pre-existing conditions in the new health care plan. The new PCIP doesn’t just cover primary care, but also specialty care, hospital care and prescription medication. It’s not based on income and the premium isn’t higher because of the medical condition. Information on how to apply for the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan is available now at HealthCare.gov.
