Joe Montana's Son Gets Arrested

Posted: 17 Jul 2010 08:55 PM PDT

Being Joe Montana’s son can’t be easy. Being Joe Montana’s son while enrolled at Notre Dame is definitely not easy. For that reason, you have to feel a bit sorry for Nate Montana after he was one of 44 people arrested following a party near the Notre Dame campus. Lil’ Montana was arrested for underage drinking — a misdemeanor charge.

The other big name arrested was Tim Abromaitis, a 6-foot-8 forward on Notre Dame’s basketball team. Abromaitis is expected to be the team’s leading scorer next season.

As for Nate Montana, before this incident, he was penciled in as the backup quarterback behind Dayne Crist. Nate is 6-foot-5, 185 pounds and went to school at De la Salle Institute in Concord, California. To get out of jail, lil’ Montana had to post $150 bond. He’ll likely just get fined for the incident, although technically he could face up to 30 days in jail.

Brian Kelly, the new Notre Dame football coach, hasn’t said if Montana will be punished for his actions.

Best Players in 2010 NBA Summer League

Posted: 17 Jul 2010 08:54 PM PDT

If you like basketball, summer league is always a fun thing to watch. Most of the players are going all out to put food on the table; there aren’t many egomaniac superstars coasting through a contest. It’s just good, hard fought, competitive basketball — even though the sloppy play and unending fouls can ruin the rhythm at times.

Who were the best players of the 2010 NBA Summer League? Here’s a look at a few players who stood out:

J.J. Hickson, Cleveland Cavaliers
When teams talked to the Cavs last season at the trade deadline, the player they wanted was J.J. Hickson. This young forward can score and rebound while also playing with a boundless amount of energy. With LeBron James in South Beach, expect Hickson to get more minutes.

DeMarcus Cousins, Sacramento Kings
DeMarcus Cousins had his issues — he averaged 5.5 fouls and 5.2 turnovers per game — but he also looked very good at times. He scored (17.8 points per game), rebounded (11.5 boards) and passed the ball (2.8 assists). He has to mature a lot but Cousins should be a force in the NBA.

Reggie Williams, Golden State Warriors
The undrafted Reggie Williams can’t run and can’t jump but there is one thing he can do: score the ball. At VMI, he led the nation in scoring. Last year in the NBA, Williams showed he can score on the professional level. In summer league, Williams averaged 22.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists over the course of five games.

John Wall, Washington Wizards
John Wall is the favorite to win the MVP of summer league. The number one overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, Wall averaged 23.5 points, 7.8 assists and 4 rebounds per game. He struggled a bit shooting the ball but his blinding speed and great passing ability stood out and showed why he’s a star in the making.

Should Apple Fix the iPhone 4?

Posted: 17 Jul 2010 07:56 PM PDT

By now you have heard that the new iPhone can have some reception problems if you cover a certain spot on the phone with your hand. And though Apple CEO Steve Jobs denies there’s an antenna problem that needs fixed, the company is offering free protective cases to buyers of the latest iPhone.

Starting late next week, you can go to the Apple website and sign up for a free case. The company will allow you to choose from several case styles. All new iPhone 4 buyers through September 30 will be eligible for the a free case, and Apple will send refunds to those who already bought one of their Bumpers.

And though you might think that you shouldn’t have to cover your iPhone with a case (or a piece of duct tape), Jobs doesn’t think it’s that big of a deal.

“We’re not feeling right now that we have a giant problem we need to fix,” Jobs said. “This has been blown so out of proportion that it’s incredible.”

According to CBS News: “Jobs has said that the iPhone 4’s antenna issue isn’t widespread, with just over five out of every 1,000 (or 0.5%) complaining to Apple’s warranty service, and less than 2 percent returning the device.”

But Consumer Reports (and many others) think a long-term solution needs to be found for the antenna problem. The free bumper case isn’t exactly the fix they are looking for.

“We look forward to a long-term fix from Apple. As things currently stand, the iPhone 4 is still not one of our Recommended models,” Consumer Reports said.

Atlanta, Boston, Miami and Cleveland were all interested in Miller, but he choose to go to Houston.

“Brad is really excited. The prospect of Yao being back coupled with the fact he will be playing for Rick Adelman makes Houston a special place,” his agent Mark Bartelstein told KRIV-TV in Houston. Miller says Adelman is the “favorite coach I’ve ever played for.”

Miller spent last season in Chicago, where he played in 82 games (starting 37). He averaged 8.8 points and 4.9 rebounds in 23.8 minutes per game.

In other free agent news, Zydrunas Ilgauskas became the third center to sign with the Miami Heat. On Friday, both Joel Anthony and rookie draft pick Dexter Pittman signed contracts with the team. The Heat are also expected to sign another bigman in Jamaal Magloire.

The Heat now have nine players on their official roster as they fill out their squad around LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

What is Lumbar Spinal Stenosis?

Posted: 17 Jul 2010 01:38 PM PDT

Lumbar spinal stenosis is the narrowing of the spinal canal in the lower back. Generally, the condition is caused naturally by aging, as the discs between the spinal vertebrae become worn, dehydrated, and overgrown due to arthritis. When these changes in the lower back become severe, they lead to lumbar spinal stenosis.

When the lumbar spinal canal narrows, the nerves in the area that go to the skin and the legs are pinched. This can lead to inflammation of these nerves, which, in turn, causes pain in the afflicted regions. If the lower back degenerates past the point of spinal stenosis, the vertebrae can actually slip, causing a painful condition that should be treated immediately.

Lumbar spinal stenosis generally affects those that are middle aged or older because of the fact that it ties in with aging. There is also a certain amount of predisposition in the matter because people can be born with narrower spinal canals than others. They are more likely to develop this problem of lumbar spinal stenosis.

The condition is identifiable by a long history of chronic pain in the legs, buttocks, and lower back pain that gets worse and worse over time. Standing or walking makes the symptoms worse, leading to a host of sensations in the affected areas. Sitting down and/or leaning forward helps to relieve these symptoms.

Physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medications, and epidural steroid injections are all prescribed to those suffering from lumbar spinal stenosis. And depending on the severity of the case, surgery may be done as well. Open laminectomy is the most effective (80% improvement rate) form of decompression surgery available. Chick of the Day: Erica Chevillar

Posted: 17 Jul 2010 10:52 AM PDT

Erica Chevillar hosted the MMA Xplosion Ring Girl Competition at the Crown Theater & Nightclub at the RIO All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on Friday. The winner of the competition received a contract for the July 17 MMA Xplosion event and $500 in cash. Erica seemed to be Xploding out of her tank top.

If you remember, Erica’s claim to fame was her appearance on the U.S. National Bikini team website a few years back that caused her to get fired from her job as a 10th grade history teacher. The firing ended up a blessing as it spawned her modeling career. She was featured in the March 2007 issue of Playboy in a “Hot for Teacher” spread and has been in a number of other magazines.

To get a better (nude) look at Erica Chevillar, head over to Hottest Divas to see some of her Playboy picture — WARNING: Definitely NSFW.
