Flyers Win in Overtime in Game 3 Posted: 02 Jun 2010 08:35 PM PDT With the Chicago Blackhawks holding a 2-0 in the Stanley Cup Finals, the Philadelphia Flyers needed a victory in Game 3 to keep their hopes alive. In overtime, Claude Giroux delivered the victory with a goal six minutes into the extra period. The Flyers can now tie the series in Game 4 if they can win another contest in front of their home fans. ![]() Image: TSN.ca Heading into the third period, the teams were tied 2-2. The Blackhawks scored first on a goal by Patrick Kane. But later in the period, the Flyers were able to tie it up with a goal by Ville Leino. That goal set up Giroux’s overtime heroics. “I tried to get a stick on it,” explained Giroux, “and it just trickled in.” The loss ended a great deal of momentum for Chicago. They had won seven straight playoff games and seven straight road playoff games. While they still hold the advantage in this series, any adversity reminds the Blackhawks that they haven’t won the Stanley Cup since 1961. Post from: EveryJoe Flyers Win in Overtime in Game 3 |
Posted: 02 Jun 2010 08:35 PM PDT Jim Joyce is the most hated man in baseball right now. The veteran umpire ruined a perfect game for Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga by blowing an easy call with two outs in the ninth inning. Galarraga had retired the game’s first 26 batters when Jim Joyce called a runner safe at first base. Replays showed that Galarraga was in time covering first base and the game should have been over with the perfect game secured. But it didn’t happen that way thanks to a bad call for the ages. To Jim Joyce’s credit, he quickly admitted his error in judgement. Said Joyce: “I just cost that kid a perfect game.” Yes, you sure did. As for the game, the Tigers beat the Cleveland Indians by a final count of 3-0. Galarraga was able to get the next batter out to successfully complete a one-hitter. However, this game will forever be remembered as the imperfect perfect game … thanks to Jim Joyce. Post from: EveryJoe |
