| Posted: 06 Jun 2010 03:56 PM PDT People have a multitude of reasons why they don’t eat meat. Some don’t like the killing of animals. Others think meat is not healthy. The gases from chickens, cows, pigs, and their manure even play a part in global warming. So everyone is looking for meat alternatives. ![]() Image: Time.com Soy products can be flavored to emulate meat – but many people dislike the texture. However earlier this spring, scientists at the University of Missouri announced that they created the first soy product that looks and tastes like chicken, and also breaks apart in your mouth just like chicken does. Check out the story at Time.com about The Quest for Fake Meat and be sure to view the accompanying Fake Chicken video. So what do you say? Do you think you’d try it? Post from: EveryJoe |
| Nas & Damian Marley’s Distant Relatives Posted: 06 Jun 2010 03:41 PM PDT Rapper Nas teamed up with reggae’s Damian Marley for a very distinct sound in their new album, Distant Relatives. Distant Relatives was released on May 18, 2010 and features lyrics concerning ancestry, poverty, and the plight of Africa. In the first week, the album sold 57,000 copies and debuted at No. 5 on the US Billboard 200 chart. You may have heard about the album at the 2009 Grammy Awards, when Nas told MTV, “Right now, I’ll tell you first, I’m working on an album with Damian Marley. We tryin’ to build some schools in Africa with this one, and trying to build empowerment. We’re tryin’ to show love and stuff with this album. So, the record’s…all about really the ‘hood and Africa also as well.” ![]() Distant Relatives Though critics are singing the praises of the album, many people don’t love it on the first listen. You have to really get into it to appreciate the lyrics and all that’s going on in the album. Check out “As We Enter” in the video below. | Posted: 06 Jun 2010 02:44 PM PDT After a difficult year in 2009, where he lost at Roland Garros, endured the separation of his parents, and suffered through knee tendinitis, Rafael Nadal beat Robin Soderling 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 to win the 2010 French open title. Nadal is now 38-1 at Roland Garros, with the only loss to Soderling in the fourth round last year. ![]() Image: TSN.ca With the win, the King of Clay will reclaim the No. 1 ranking Monday, displacing Roger Federer. He also became the second man to win the French Open at least five times. Nadal improved to 22-0 this year on clay but now switches to grass for Wimbledon. He will seek a second Wimbledon title after missing last year’s tournament with his knee issues. Post from: EveryJoe |
| Posted: 05 Jun 2010 08:11 PM PDT Drosselmeyer came through with a victory in the $1 million Belmont Stakes. The horse that was left out of the Kentucky Derby because it hadn’t earned enough money outlasted the rest of the field to win the final leg of the Triple Crown by three-quarters of a length. Drosselmeyer returned $28.00, $11.60 and $7.70. In second, Fly Down paid $6.80 and $5.10. First Dude returned $4.90 to show. The 9-5 favorite in the race, Ice Box, was never in contention during the Belmont and ended up finishing ninth in the 12-horse field. Named for a character in Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker,” Drosselmeyer earned $600,000 for the win, more than quadrupling his career total. Again, there was no Triple Crown champion this year. It’s now been 32 years since Affirmed became the 11th Triple Crown winner by weeping the Derby, Preakness and Belmont. Post from: EveryJoe |
