Koman Coulibaly Blows Call in U.S. Tie Posted: 18 Jun 2010 12:06 PM PDT Koman Coulibaly is enemy No. 1 right now for fans of the United States soccer team. The referee from Mali made a horrible call late in the match between the U.S. and Slovenia that ended up costing the United States a victory. Instead, the two teams tied 2-2. In the first half, Slovenia got out to a two-goal lead. In the second half, the U.S. stormed back to tie the game. In the 82nd minute, Maurice Edu scored a goal to give the United States a 3-2 lead … only for his goal to be disallowed by Koman Coulibaly. Why was the goal disallowed? No one is really sure at this point. Count Landon Donovan, who scored one of goals for the U.S., as someone who is mystified by the call. Said Donovan: “I’m a little gutted to be honest. I don’t know how they stole that last goal from us. I’m not sure what the call was. He wouldn’t tell us what the call was.” The United States still has a chance to advance but a win against Slovenia would have all but assured it. But thanks to Koman Coulibaly’s gaffe, the road has gotten much more difficult. Post from: EveryJoe |
Posted: 18 Jun 2010 01:19 AM PDT In Game 7 of the 2010 NBA Finals, Kobe Bryant surely had to play well for the Los Angeles Lakers to beat the Boston Celtics, right? Guess again. Kobe Bryant spent the entire game succumbing to the pressure and playing one of his worst games of the season. As it turned out, Kobe’s choke wasn’t enough for the Boston Celtics to pull out a victory. ![]() Image: TSN.ca To win the 2010 NBA championship, the Lakers won Game 7 by a final score of 83-79. Kobe, who was named the 2010 Finals MVP, was just 6-for-24 from the field and had two assists and four turnovers. To his credit, he helped his team by pulling down 15 rebounds. The real stars for the Lakers in Game were Ron Artest and Pau Gasol. Artest had 20 points, five rebounds and five steals, while Gasol finished with 19 points, 18 rebounds, four assists and two blocks. THe Celtics, who led by as many as 13 points in the third quarter, saw their entire starting lineup score in double figures. Paul Pierce led the way with 18 points but hit just 5-of-15 shots from the floor. Although the contest wasn’t pretty, this Game 7 was a fitting way for the series to end. Both teams gave great effort and played very good defense. When all was said and done, this battle ended up being decided by L.A. having homecourt advantage. That edge allowed the Lakers to win the championship — even with Kobe Bryant choking when it mattered most. Post from: EveryJoe |
