Apple co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs unveiled the new iPhone 4 on opening day of Apple’s Worldwide Developer’s Conference (WWDC) on Monday. And though you might have seen some photos of the new iPhone online, this was the official first look.

It’s an all new design with glass on the front and rear. They increased the pixel density – the Retina Display is 326 pixels per inch (300 is the limit of the human retina). It offers a 3 1/2 inch display (same as the current), 800:1 contrast ratio, wide viewing angles and other changes.

The large battery allows 7 hours of talk time, 6 hours of 3G browsing, 10 hours of wi-fi browsing, 10 hours of video, 40 hours of music, and a whopping 300 hours of standby. They added a 3-axis gyroscope. The iPhone 4 has a 5MP camera with 5x zoom, tap to focus and LED flash. It also records HD video, and there’s built-in video editing with iMovie. There’s also a video chat app dubbed “FaceTime” which uses the phone’s front- and rear-facing cameras. The iOS allows for multi-tasking or apps.

The iPhone 4 will be available in two colors – black or white. The 16GB version is $199.99 and the 32GB edition is $299.99. The iPhone 3GS is now $99 for 8GB, and the iPhone 3G will be retired.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 4 start June 14th and they go on sale on June 24th. If your current contract expires during 2010, you are eligible for a new iPhone 4 with a 2-year contract.

The iPhone carrier is still AT&T (some were hoping for a Verizon iPhone). If you are looking for a new phone, Mashable has a quick breakdown of the iPhone 4 vs HTC Evo vs Droid Incredible.

Saddled with foul trouble, Kobe Bryant scored 21 points on the night for the Lakers while Pau Gasol had 25 points and eight boards to lead the way for Los Angeles. Andrew Bynum also had a solid performance with 21 points and six rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Celtics.
