MMA Fighter Rips Out Training Partner’s Heart

Posted: 31 May 2010 04:46 PM PDT

Many people have probably made the idle threat – “I’m going to rip your heart out.” Very few people have actually done it. Well U.S. cage fighter Jarrod Wyatt did. While on mushrooms, Wyatt ripped out the heart of his training partner Taylor Powell while he was still alive.

In addition to cutting an 18-inch hole in his chest, Wyatt also cut out Powell’s tongue and ripped off most of his face. Police claim they found the 26-year-old Wyatt naked, standing over his friend’s body parts in a blood spattered room in Klamath, Calif.

Wyatt’s lawyer claims it was wild mushrooms that caused him to commit the heinous murder and that he had no control over what he was doing.

“My client was trying to silence the devil,” said James Fallman. “I think he was having a psychotic fit based on the mushrooms he had.” Wyatt reportedly had drank hallucinogenic mushroom tea prior to the murder.

Wyatt has been charged with first degree murder, aggravated mayhem and torture (because Powell was alive when his heart was removed).

Allergies Linked to Depression?

Posted: 30 May 2010 08:28 PM PDT

A link between allergies and depression may exist according to a recent TIME.co article. Dr. Partam Manalai of the University of Maryland School of Medicine conducted a study and his findings apparently suggest that “the worse the allergy symptoms, the worse the depression scores.”

Allergies - DepressionThough he only collected blood samples from 100 people, there may be some reason to believe the two factors are connected. Agents released during an allergic reaction can also effect the allergy sufferer’s mood and cognition. Therefore, more studies are to be done to see if allergies can cause severe mood changes and depression.

Dario Franchitti Wins Indy 500

Posted: 30 May 2010 08:07 PM PDT

Though his car was dominant, leading 155 of the 200 lap race, it took a little luck for Dario Franchitti to win the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday. Running out of fuel with one lap to go, Franchitti got the break he needed when an airborne crash sent Mike Conway into the wall and brought out a yellow flag. When Franchitti crossed the finish line, he only had 1.6 gallons of fuel left.

This was the second Indy 500 victory for the Scottish driver; he also won the race in 2007. On the advice of his crew, Franchitti began to slow down considerably to converse fuel with about 15 laps left. Who knows what the outcome would have been without the yellow flag.

Franchitti’s victory made Chip Ganassi the first owner to win the Indy 500 and NASCAR’s Daytona 500 in the same year.

Morales Hits Walk-Off Grand Slam, Breaks Leg

Posted: 29 May 2010 08:57 PM PDT

Anaheim Angels’ Kendry Morales had a night he’ll never forget against the Seattle Mariners. Morales hit a walk-off grand slam in the 10th inning to give his team a 5-1 victory…and then he broke his leg when he jumped on home plate.

Morales had to be carted off the field and taken to the hospital.

Smiling as he rounded third, Morales threw down his helmet right before getting to home plate. He then took a hop and jumped up toward the plate as his celebrating teammates began to pat him on the head. And then he went down quickly, grimacing.

Morales was placed on the disabled list after the fluke injury.

Amare and Suns Bounce Back, Slam Lakers

Posted: 24 May 2010 07:10 PM PDT

The Phoenix Suns, especially Amare Stoudemire, took a lot of heat for the way they played in Game 1 and Game 2 of the 2010 Western Conference Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers. In Game 3, the Suns showed their home fans that the series isn’t over. With Stoudemire leading the way with 42 points and 11 rebounds, the Suns slammed the Lakers by a final score of 118-109.

In the first two games, the Lakers couldn’t be stopped offensively. To slow the Los Angeles, Phoenix coach Alvin Gentry used a zone defense that forced the Lakers to shoot from the outside. After the Lakers hit only 9-of-32 three-pointers, the plan worked to perfection.

Stoudemire got help from starting center Robin Lopez, who had 20 points and made eight of ten field goal attempts. Jason Richardson chipped in with 19 points, while Steve Nash had 17 points and 15 assists.

Kobe Bryant had a monster game of 36 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds for L.A. but he simply didn’t get enough help. Pau Gasol and Derek Fisher played well but literally everyone else on the Lakers struggled.

The Western Conference Finals are now 2-1 and the Suns can tie the series in Game 4 on Tuesday.

Certainly NBA locker rooms can get crowded with all the media during the playoffs. And in the middle of Matt Barnes’ interview, his teammate Jason Williams expressed his displeasure and irritation at reporters who were invading his space as he got dressed.

“Can you guys please back the fuck up?” Williams said. “I asked you three times. You don’t want me to get mean now.”

Barnes, Williams and the rest of their Orlando Magic teammates are about to get swept by the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference finals. Game 4 is tonight at 8:30pm ET in Boston.

On Day 1 of the French Open, Venus Williams defeated Patty Schnyder 6-3, 6-3. But not many people cared about the victory – all eyes were on her dress.

Venue wore a corset-style lingerie dress that was black, lacy and sexy. It was highlighted by red piping and the illusion that it was see-thru. Underneath, she wore a pair of nude shorts.

Elin Wants $750 Million From Tiger

Posted: 22 May 2010 10:09 PM PDT

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, divorces talks have gotten a bit ugly between Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren. Elin is now requesting $750 million from Woods. She also refuses to sign a “confidentiality clause” that would stop her from talking to the press or writing a book about their marriage. In addition, she wants full custody of their two kids – not joint custody as was first discussed.

It’s going to get much uglier before this one is settled.

Celtics Crush Magic to Take 3-0 Series Lead

Posted: 22 May 2010 08:07 PM PDT

The Boston Celtics are on the verge of sweeping the Orlando Magic and heading to the NBA Finals. On Saturday night, Glen Davis scored 17 points and Rajon Rondo chipped in 11 points and 12 assists as the Celtics cruised to a 94-71 win over the Magic to take a 3-0 series lead in the Eastern Conference finals. The Celtics led 21-6 in the first quarter and never looked back.

Just as a reminder – no team in the NBA has lost a playoff series after going up 3-0.

The Celtics were led by a balanced attack. Paul Pierce had 15 points and nine boards, Ray Allen tallied 14, and Kevin Garnett was in double figures with 10 points in 24 minutes.  On the other side, Dwight Howard had only seven and seven rebounds for Orlando while Rashard Lewis scored just four points on 2-for-8 shooting, missing all four 3-point attempts.

The Magic will now look to avoid a sweep in Game 4 on Monday night.
