This time, it’s all about an injury. Favre has been informed that he will need surgery on his left ankle before playing again. Therefore, the 40-year-old is contemplating whether to have the surgery or retire. Image: Zuma Press “We (Favre and the orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews) have spoken,” Favre said in an e-mail, according to ESPN. “To play again, I would need the surgery, as I suspected. This decision would be easy if not for my teammates and the fans and the entire Vikings staff. One year truly felt like 10 — much like Green Bay for many years. That’s what I was missing in my heart I suppose, a sense of belonging.” Minnesota coach Brad Childress says he has talked to the Favre many times about the ankle injury and considers it a minor.
