Mark Cuban, Steve Kerr fined by NBA Posted: 22 May 2010 03:57 PM PDT Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban was fined $100,000 by the NBA on Saturday for his comments about LeBron James in an interview with CNNMoney.com recently. Cuban’s remarks violated the league rules about tampering. The rules prohibit coaches, owners and other team officials from commenting on free agents until the free agency period begins on July 1. The $100,000 fine is a drop in the bucket, compared to what could have happened. The maximum fine for tampering could have been $5 million and the possibility of not being able to pursue James in the case he does become a free agent. “For those of you who care about these things, NBA just fined me 100k for comments regarding another teams’ players,” Cuban wrote on his Twitter acount on Saturday. Steve Kerr, Phoenix Suns president of basketball operations, was also fined for talking about LeBron on a radio show earlier this month. Kerr’s fine was just $10,000. You can check out Cuban’s comments on LeBron below. Post from: EveryJoe Mark Cuban, Steve Kerr fined by NBA |
Posted: 22 May 2010 03:42 PM PDT Guest Post by Keva Silversmith I've been travelling for business this week, and had to do some soul searching regarding one of life's fundamental questions: How much should I pay for a workout? At home, my gym membership costs about $40 per month. If I go two of every three days, I'm paying an actual $2 per workout. Great. ![]() Image: istockphoto Some of the more expensive gyms in my area cost up to $800 a year. Throw in an initiation fee, and with a 66 percent attendance rate, you're looking at close to $5 a workout. Not so great. To me, $5 is dangerously close to real money. For five bucks, you can swill a grande latte, view a matinee, or pay for a couple gallons of gas. The discouraging part about gyms in this price range is that you're probably funding a bunch of things you never even use, like swimming pools and squash courts. You'd be much better served if the gym simply added a decent calf raise machine to the main floor. The maximum one-time guest fee for gyms used to hover around $10. In my heart, I figured I would pay $10 for the perfect workout: an empty gym with the latest equipment, a mix of my favorite songs playing over the speakers. Lately, however, I've seen guest fees of $15, and today, I found a gym that charged $20. If I had to pay $20 per workout at my home gym, I'd be paying $400 per month, or almost $5,000 per year. No wonder $20 feels ridiculous. Nevertheless, people do pay four- or even five-figures for their gym memberships. Some of these clubs are built for celebrities and don't really apply. But what about the super high end place that offers cutting edge equipment, caps its membership (or number of people allowed on the floor at one time), and lets you grunt away in a spa-like environment? I have to believe that working out in a veritable penthouse would boost my motivation and reduce the agony. Well, maybe. Bosh Narrows Wish List to Five Posted: 21 May 2010 08:58 PM PDT Chris Bosh will be a coveted free agent by many NBA franchises this summer but he has narrowed his wish list down to five teams. According to sources of ESPN.com’s Chad Ford, Bosh’s agent has given the Toronto Raptors a list of his preferred teams. ![]() Image: Zuma Press The list includes Toronto, plus the Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, Miami Heat and New York Knicks. The names of the teams were given to Toronto management, in case the Raptors want to work out a sign-and-trade deal. This summer, much of NBA free agency will depend on where LeBron James signs. Once LeBron inks a deal, then the rest of the free agents will begin to fall into place. [ESPN] Post from: EveryJoe Bosh Narrows Wish List to Five |
Favre Undergoes Surgery on Left Ankle Posted: 21 May 2010 08:57 PM PDT Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre had arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle on Friday Morning at the Andrews Institute in Gulf Breeze, Florida. Orthopedic specialist Dr. James Andrews performed the operation. The 40-year-old Favre confirmed the surgery on his website. ![]() Image: Zuma Press The procedure cleaned up scar tissue around the joint to (hopefully) allow Favre a better range of motion. Rehab time is 4-6 weeks – putting on schedule to report to training camp. Though Favre will turn 41 in October, last season was one of the best of his career. He threw for 33 touchdowns and had just seven interceptions. Post from: EveryJoe Favre Undergoes Surgery on Left Ankle |
