Suns Sweep Spurs to Advance to WCF

Posted: 09 May 2010 08:55 PM PDT

The Phoenix Suns wanted revenge against the San Antonio Spurs. Not only did the Suns get revenge, they got it in ultimate fashion — with a sweep. With a 107-101 victory, the Suns swept the Spurs to advance to the Western Conference Finals where they are very likely to meet the Los Angeles Lakers.

Leading the way for the Suns was Amare Stoudemire, who finished with 29 points, five rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot, while hitting 10-of-17 shots from the field and 9-of-10 from the line. Steve Nash may have been the story of the game. Even though he needed six stitches to repair a cut above his eye, he was able to finish with 20 points and nine assists on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor, including 3-of-3 from three-point range. Off the bench, Jared Dudley had 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals in an impressive all-around effort.

The four-time champion Spurs were led by Tony Parker’s 22 points and five assists. Tim Duncan had 17 points and eight rebounds, while Manu Ginobili had 15 points, nine assists, six rebounds and five steals. After beating the Dallas Mavericks in the first round, hopes were high in San Antonio. But those hopes came crashing down to the ground against the Suns.

The Lakers lead the Utah Jazz 3-0 on the other side of the Western Conference bracket. Unless the Jazz pull off the miracle, the Suns and Lakers will battle for a spot in the 2010 NBA Finals.

Rajon Rondo Beats LeBron James, Series Tied

Posted: 09 May 2010 08:54 PM PDT

The Boston Celtics have a long history of success in the NBA playoffs. That said, few Celtics have ever played a better game than Rajon Rondo played on Sunday. The Celtics starting point guard single-handedly carried Boston over LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers to tie the series 2-2.

Rondo finished the game with 29 points, 18 rebounds and 13 assists. It was the fourth career triple-double for Rondo in the playoffs, however it was easily his most impressive performance. In his 47 minutes of playing time, he dominated the action on both sides of the court.

LeBron James didn’t exactly play poorly (22 points, nine rebounds and eight assists) but he couldn’t touch Rondo on this day. The Cavs now head home for Game 5 in what is basically a must-win. If the Cavs lose at home, the series will return to Boston for Game 6 and the Celtics will have a chance to clinch on their home court.

Although Rondo probably won’t be able to have another game quite as good, he’ll need to continue rising his game to superstar level for the Celtics to complete an upset of the Cavs.
