Collins and 76ers Agree to 4-year Deal Posted: 20 May 2010 08:10 PM PDT According to ESPN.com’s Chris Sheridan, the Philadelphia 76ers and Doug Collins agreed on a four-year deal for Collins to take over the job as the team’s head coach. Former Dallas Mavericks coach Avery Johnson and Toronto Raptors coach Sam Mitchell were also in the running for the position. An official announcement is expected from the team on Friday. ![]() Image: Turner Collins played eight seasons with the 76ers after they chose him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1973 draft. He was a four-time All-Star with the team in an injury-filled career. A knee injury forced his retirement back in 1981. Collins, who most recently has been a TNT TV analyst, has an NBA coaching record of 332-287 during stints with the Chicago Bulls, Detroit Pistons and Washington Wizards.
