Tiger Woods Struggles on the Golf Course

Posted: 30 Apr 2010 04:44 AM PDT

In recent months, Tiger Woods has struggled in his personal life following his infamous sex scandal. Now, in his second golf tournament, his struggles have extended to the golf course. Playing in the Quail Hollow Championship, Woods had a disappointing 74.

After playing so well in the Masters on his way to finishing tied for fourth place, Woods actually looked human on Thursday. Woods didn’t have an explanation for why he struggled.

“It was one of those days,” said Woods.

Bo Van Pelt and Kenny Perry were much happier with their days. Van Pelt shot a 65, while Perry authored a 66. The tournament, which takes place in Charlotte, North Carolina, has a number of big names near the top of the leaderboard. However, the man everyone came to see, is currently tied for 88th.

Said Woods: “I was struggling so bad today. I didn’t know which way it was going to go. I was just trying to piece a round together.”

Despite his poor start, Tiger hasn’t given up hope.

“One good round tomorrow and I can get back in it.”

The San Antonio Spurs and the Phoenix Suns had an opportunity to advance to the Western Conference semifinals with victories on Thursday night. Both teams got the wins they needed. Now, the Spurs and Suns will meet in the next round in a best of seven series.

The Spurs got their win at home over the Dallas Mavericks by a final score of 92-87. Manu Ginobili led the way with 26 points and five assists, while shooting 7-of-19 from the field and 10-for-12 at the line. George Hill chipped in 21 points, including ten points in the deciding fourth quarter. The Spurs were able to survive 33 points from Dirk Nowitzki, who shot 13-for-21 from the court.

The Suns got their win in Portland against the Trail Blazers. In a closely contested affair, the Suns pulled away down the stretch to win 99-90 and advance. Jason Richardson was the scoring star for the Suns, finishing with 28 points on 10-for-16 shooting. Amare Stoudemire had 22 points, while Steve Nash had ten points and six assists.

In the Western Conference semifinals matchup, the Suns will look for some revenge against the Spurs. The Spurs have knocked out the Suns in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2008. This year, Phoenix is playing well, has homecourt advantage and will likely be favored by the odds-makers.
