DS Mario and Luigi Mega Game Case Posted: 01 Feb 2010 09:06 PM PST Have you seen the new DS Mega Game cases? You can get either Mario or Luigi (or both!) and they are pretty darn cool for the Nintendo lover. The Mega Game Case is a very useful accessory since it keeps up to 12 Nintendo DS game cards snug in individual compartments. I don't know about you but ever since the GameBoy first came out years ago, I've always had a hard time keeping track of the smaller games so I always like picking up stuff like this. images: Amazon Post from: EveryJoe DS Mario and Luigi Mega Game Case |
Chick of the Day: Jennifer Hawkins Posted: 01 Feb 2010 09:02 PM PST Australian model Jennifer Hawkins is the face of the Lovable Australia lingerie line and the department store, Myer. She won the Miss Universe pageant back in 2004 and was a judge on the Australian edition of Make Me a Supermodel in 2008. Though she has declined to pose nude in various men’s magazines, Jennifer Hawkins appeared naked and unretouched on the February cover of Marie Claire Australia magazine to support the Butterfly Foundation (an eating disorders support group) and encourage positive attitudes to body image. She said, “I’m not a stick figure–I thought it would be great to tell women to just be themselves and be confident.” Though she’s not flawless, she really doesn’t need much airbrushing. ![]() Image: Marie Claire Australia Post from: EveryJoe Chick of the Day: Jennifer Hawkins |
Alain Prost and Michael Schumacher Posted: 01 Feb 2010 08:24 PM PST Last year when it was announced Michael Schumacher was preparing to return to Formula One to take the place of Felipe Massa after he was injured while competing in a Formula One race. The heart of the Formula One world skipped a beat and most Formula One fans closed their eyes and then opened them again, thinking that they were dreaming. The excitement of fans was snuffed out just as quick when it was announced that Michael had put his return to Formula One glory on hold. ![]() Does this look like a man who is use to failing? It wasn’t nearly as surprising for many when it was again announced that Michael Schumacher was planning to return to Formula One to drive for Ferrari, after the events of the year before. Seven time Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher is preparing to once again suit up and strap himself into a Formula One car after years on the sidelines, but Michael isn’t the only Formula One World Champion to return after leaving the sport. Four-time Formula One World Champion Alain Prost returned to Formula One in 1993 after leaving the Ferrari team under difficult circumstances in 1991. He returned to doubts that he could compete, but went on to win seven races and stand on the podium twelve times in 1993. This silenced his doubters for awhile, but he failed to return the next year and instead decided to hang up his racing gloves in favor of other interests. It was one of the most stylish exits ever for a Formula One World Champion and he left at the top of his game, with records in almost every category. In fact, it’s ironic that it would take the arrival of Michael Schumacher on the scene for his records to be eclipsed. Michael would go on to eclipse Alain Prost’s records and put his own name in the record books in the majority of categories. The 2010 Formula One season is going to be interesting for a number of reasons, but for me the desire to see if Michael can actually return to Formula One and show the younger drivers that he’s still the best, is going to keep me coming back. If Michael has a good start, it will be an exciting year that could go down in Formula One history as one of the most historic, ever. Can a man who is almost fourty return to the fastest sport on two wheels in the world after years on the shelf and compete against younger men who have been forged in the furner of racing? Absolutely! Age has absolutely no bearing on this affair and the younger racers, I believe, are about to find out just how competitive Michael still is. “Image: Zuma Press” Post from: EveryJoe Alain Prost and Michael Schumacher |
Memory Loss Could Indicate Stroke Risk Posted: 01 Feb 2010 06:51 PM PST We all forget things from time to time but when forgetfulness becomes to common, it becomes a scary thing. Oftentimes, when an older person begins forgetting things, they worry about dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. However, a study of 930 men, in Sweden, shows that a decline in memory could indicate not a dementia, but a higher risk of having a stroke.
This particular study, published in the most recent issue of the medical journal Neurology, followed the 930 men for 13 years, testing their memory with three tests and then following up who had a stroke during that period. According to a press release announcing the study findings,
The men were on average 70 years old at the start of the study. The researchers found that during the follow up, 166 of the men experienced a stroke or a transient ischemic attack (TIA), a so-called mini-stroke. When analyzing the numbers, the researchers noted that those who were in the bottom quarter of the group in performance on the second test, the Trail Making Test B, were three times more likely to have a stroke than those who scored in the top quarter. There was no noticeable connection between the other two tests and the number of men who had strokes. ~~~ Image: morguefile.com Post from: EveryJoe Memory Loss Could Indicate Stroke Risk |
Trying Out Seesmic for Windows Again Posted: 01 Feb 2010 05:30 PM PST I’m still surprised at the number of people I meet that rely on the Twitter website to serve as their main source of updating and keeping track of their Twitter updates. I’ve been a happy user of Twhirl for quite awhile now. I decided it was time to try another desktop application out to see if anything had drastically improved since the last time I used something other than Twhirl. It appears that nothing much has changed with Seesmic for Windows. I still think the use of screen space isn’t very efficient. In the image above I have it maximized and can only fit three panels on my screen. With my current arrangement of Twhirl windows, I can get five panels onscreen at once. I also don’t like that each item I click on to access (like Private messages, different accounts, or replies) opens yet another panel. I then have to scroll left and right to change what I’m looking at on screen. I’ve never been a fan of scrolling left/right for much of anything. The Searches functionality is okay, simple enough to use and you can set it up to save your searches. I just don’t like more and more panels opening, increasing the amount and distance I have to scroll left/right to get to anything. Looks like I won’t be switching over to Seesmic for Windows anytime soon. Here’s the rub though, Seesmic purchased Twhirl awhile back. Let’s just hope they don’t get rid of Twhirl, hopefully they’ll get rid of Seesmic for Windows instead. Post from: EveryJoe Trying Out Seesmic for Windows Again |
It’s Official, James Wants To Be A Knick Posted: 01 Feb 2010 11:10 AM PST Of course, I’m not talking about LeBron James … I’m talking about Mike James. And who exactly is Mike James? ![]() Mike James wants to play for the New York Knicks. Mike James is a guard for the Washington Wizards, a team that is currently imploding from the inside out thanks to the Gilbert Arenas saga. James may not be as popular or as coveted as Lebron James himself, but he can still ball. And he’s the only James who has expressed his interest (on record) in playing in the Big Apple. According to the New York Post, James is hoping that the Wizards will trade him to the New York Knicks before the Feb. 18th deadline. “This isn’t how I envisioned it,” he said. “I want to get out of here. The coach [Flip Sanders] never had me in his plans. I could see [sitting me] if we’re winning, but you can’t tell me I can’t help now. MSG is the mecca. Every New York player’s dream is to play there.” James grew up on the courts in the urban streets of New York, so he’d be right at home if the Knicks picked him up. But if Mike D’Antoni is holding out for the other James, otherwise known as “King” James, then the Knicks will want to save as as much money as they can. LeBron is going to cost a pretty penny, far more than any Mike, Jim or Joe James would. Image: Zuma Press Post from: EveryJoe It’s Official, James Wants To Be A Knick |
How Long Does it Take to Get Back in Shape? Posted: 01 Feb 2010 09:43 AM PST One day you’re at the top of your fitness mountain. Two months later, you can be as out of shape as you’ve ever been. There you are, eating another snack in front of your TV, when it hits you: It’s time to get back in shape. But what’s the time line like on reaching your pinnacle again? This answer depends on how far you let yourself go. Generally, if you’ve just dropped your workout but not diet, you’re staring at 2-3 months of hard work to get to where you were. If you’ve put on some weight from eating and lack of exercise, you can add another month to that. The first thing that will come back is your strength. Muscles have memory and you’ll start noticing significant re-gains after a few weeks. Your cardio and endurance will creep back significantly slower. This process will be entirely frustrating to you as exercises and weights you were able to accomplish on a regular basis will be impossible in the present. In fact, even when lowering the weight significantly, your arms and legs may still shake because they no longer behind the strength behind them. Healthy Heart for Valentine’s Day Posted: 01 Feb 2010 06:58 AM PST It’s that time of the year again. Yup, that’s Valentine’s Day hiding around the corner. For the next two weeks, we’ll be bombarded with Valentine’s messages and how men really should not disappoint their sweeties.
Ok, fess up time:
The answers to these questions are important – particularly the first one. Heart disease is a serious and often fatal disease. While not all heart disease is preventable, much of it is, and often it can be held at bay with the proper treatment and lifestyle changes. So, what to do? If you’ve not had a check up in at least a year and your doctor hasn’t told you you can wait longer, make an appointment to have, at the very least, your blood pressure taken, and a blood test for cholesterol, fat, and blood sugar. Learn about your cholesterol numbers and what they should be for you. Don’t know the difference between “good” and “bad” cholesterol? You want the HDL levels to be high, that’s the good cholesterol – just remember HDL, “H” for high. You want the LDL levels to be low. That’s the bad cholesterol. Remember LDL, “L” for low. Make necessary lifestyle changes if recommended by your health care provider. Your life may depend on it. ~~~ Image: PhotoXpress.com Post from: EveryJoe Healthy Heart for Valentine’s Day |
Posted: 31 Jan 2010 10:27 PM PST Zombieland is being released on DVD and Blu-ray tomorrow and I plan to rent it. I didn't get to see it in theaters but the reviews were pretty good so I really want to see it. The film follows the story of cowardly shut-in, Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), who must team up with seasoned zombie-slayer, Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) in order to survive the zombie apocalypse. This is where things get weird… Tallahassee is searching for the last Twinkie on Earth when he and Columbus duo meet up with Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin). Nice names, huh?
The odd foursome unite to try to fight back against the undead but it begins to look like they might have been better off taking their chances alone. The DVD includes the following bonus features:

“Wheel of Fortune” Platinum Edition Posted: 31 Jan 2010 09:59 PM PST Wheel of Fortune is one of the most popular, longest-running game shows in television history and I've seen it adapted into both video and board game formats several times over the years. If you are one of those people who can't get enough, you might want to pick up the Wheel of Fortune Platinum Edition which is available for Windows Vista / XP, Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. This home version of the game allows players to spin and win their way to millions (in virtual cash, of course) and earn trophies. According to Amazon, the product details are as follows:
