Posted: 04 Feb 2010 09:03 PM PST The Tudors is a very popular television show and I can see the allure for history buffs but I'm not as convinced about the necessity of The Tudors: Hidden Object Adventure. Do we really need a video game based on this? Here's the Amazon project description: "Political intrigue spans national borders in this historical hidden object game. When King Henry VIII asks you to be his eyes and ears in Europe, you are drawn into a world of deception and murder. As you assume the role of the spy, you will find that even the simplest objects can hold vital clues." I guess I can see this as an educational tool but I'm not entirely convinced that I would spend money on it. I do like hidden object games, though, so maybe I'd play it if someone else bought it for me. image: Amazon Post from: EveryJoe |
Facebook Releases New Simplified Redesign Posted: 04 Feb 2010 08:14 PM PST I went to check and see what’s happening in Facebook just a few minutes ago and was welcomed with a "new, simplified home page" presented to me in my browser. Basics are still the same, but lots of stuff has moved around. As you can see from the screen shot above; new notifications, requests and messages are now all grouped together by the apps that generated them. Messages, your applications and a list of your online and available friends have shifted from the bottom-right-hand portion of the screen over to the far left in a sidebar type of layout design. The expanding chat that we’ve been used to remains available on the bottom-right-hand side still. Account settings, privacy and preferences options have remained largely the same in the top right-hand corner underneath the existing search box functionality. It appears there’s significantly more space in the main center column for updates, wall posts, the ever popular quizzes and the real guts of the Facebook experience. Makes sense to provide more room for this area. Suggestions, ads, events and similar items are still remaining on the right-hand sidebar area. You can jump into a tour of the new site layout for Facebook by taking this tour. Post from: EveryJoe Facebook Releases New Simplified Redesign |
Budweiser Shootout Practice Sessions Posted: 04 Feb 2010 06:48 PM PST It was a busy night for the tow trucks and crews as Thursday’s practice sessions for Saturday night’s Budweiser Shootout at Daytona International Speedway saw six teams involved in accidents that required them to take the backup car out of storage. The crews were busy all day working on getting backup cars ready to go and had little time to rest, so they’ll sleep good tonight. Denny Hamlin was one of the unfortunate drivers who got caught up in the festivities and lost his main car, but he wasn’t the only one. Denny got involved in a Turn 1 accident that stopped the first practice after only twenty minutes had passed in the planned 45 minute affair. The other racers didn’t let the accidents bother them and kept on going, but other accidents would follow. Just three minutes into the second practice session Kurt Busch’s No 2 Dodge had an unfortunate brush with the car of Juan Montoya on the front stretch and ended up in the outside wall. Just another day on the job for Busch, as he got his backup car out and went back at it. Something tells me this is just fun for him and losing a car and slamming into the outside wall is just hum drum stuff. I wonder what it would take to make him feel fear? The boys appeared to be trying to get use to the cars and get them up to speed and this might account for all the bumping and grinding on the track. This has a tendency to create a few bumps and bruises on the cars and occasional crashes, but this is all part of the fun. Once they got up to speed though, the boys settled down a little more and went to racing. There was lots of aggressive drafting going on and this is likely to be the norm during the season because of the rules changes NASCAR added to spice up the action on the track. The changes appear to be working as the action was continuous on the track and the boys were smiling in the cars as they made their way around the track. The 2010 season is going to be a spicy one if the changes continue to enhance the action on the track and the boys are going to have a lot of fun. Things can be quiet on the track and everything flowing nicely and then all of a sudden chaos erupts on the track. You never know what to expect and that’s the way we like it. “Image: Zuma Press” Post from: EveryJoe Budweiser Shootout Practice Sessions |
EA Games and Compatibility with Win 7 Posted: 04 Feb 2010 06:09 PM PST If you’ve been holding off on upgrading from XP or Vista to Windows 7 because of fears your games might not be compatible with Windows 7, I have some news that might put your little heart at ease.
What made me rather happy was the list of games which have been tested and have gotten along famously with the new OS. Here’s the list. Check it twice and remember that just because EA says the games worked, you shouldn’t assume EA is saying they are technically supported. In fact, this is what is on the support page:
Now, what you really want to know. What games are on the list?

Baylor’s Brittney Griner Is Sick Posted: 04 Feb 2010 08:19 AM PST Brittney Griner is sick. And I’m not talking about the, “I’ve got a cold” kind of sick. I’m talking about the, “I’m a woman, I’m 6′8″ and I can throw down” kind of sick. Griner has surpassed every woman who has ever come before her in the dunking sphere. Sure, Lisa Leslie and Candace Parker can dunk. But Griner can slam it home, hang on the rim and swing around with authority. The world of women’s basketball has never had a player like this before. Griner has the athletic skills and build of any budding male college basketball star. She has an 88-inch wing span for crying out loud! Not only can she dunk, she can also hit a short-range jumper and dominate the inside defensively. There’s always that lingering question — will a woman ever be able to play in the NBA? I don’t know the answer, but Brittney Griner may have the best chance. If you don’t believe me, see for yourself: Right now, the UConn Huskies are undefeated and looking to win another NCAA Championship. There are only two teams that could stop them in their tracks: Nebraska and Baylor. In fact, Geno Auriemma tried recruiting Griner himself. Now, he’s got to worry about her dunking on his team instead. Post from: EveryJoe Baylor’s Brittney Griner Is Sick |
It’s Your Brain’s Fault You Suck at Halo Posted: 04 Feb 2010 05:19 AM PST Remember when I told you about my cousin who used to suck so hard at Donkey Kong that he jump on the controller? I postulated that my cousin may have had a deeper pathology going on up in his noggin’ and I was right! Sort of. According to the journal Cerebral Cortex, some people’s brains just aren’t wired for awesomeness when it comes to gaming. So, while I am AMAZING at Donkey Kong, my cousin is horrible and I suspect if you scanned our brains, you would find my superiority lies not with my mad skillz but with the way my brain works. I love it when science backs up what I’ve always suspected: my cousin’s brain is wired wrong. Lead/Ars Technica Image/Flickr Post from: EveryJoe It’s Your Brain’s Fault You Suck at Halo |
Posted: 03 Feb 2010 11:35 PM PST Muscular pectorals are difficult for most men to develop, but this blog contains a few tips to provide significant improvement in the upper chest. First, just as in abs, if you want to get rid of fat, you need to incorporate a rigorous cardio/fat burning routine. You can lift weights for a long time, but the fat will come off only when you get some serious cardio in. Another huge tip is to squeeze your pecs when you contract for different chest exercises. Concentrate on using only the muscle in your chest for exercises like bench press, dumbell flies, push-ups, and other chest exercises. Also remember that your pecs need work in more than one area. Try to hit different angles with different arm and chest positioning. For example, decline bench press and pull overs strengthen the bottom of the pec while incline bench press works the top. Hyundai Production Could Resume in Canada Posted: 03 Feb 2010 11:08 PM PST Hyundai Canada could go back to producing vehicles in Canada after having a record year in 2009. The president of the company said that their final decision will depend on whether "sales volumes rise to a high enough level."
The numbers really are pretty impressive. I was at a Dodge dealership just yesterday and they said that their sales were down 50% in comparison with this time last year but Hyundai is reporting that their January sales jumped 32%, adding on to gains in 2009. That makes 2009 its best year ever since they sold 103,000 vehicles. Hyundai hasn't manufactured in Canada since the early 1990s so the idea that they might reopen their plant in Bromont, Quebec is pretty significant – both for the company and for the Canadian auto industry. Of course, this is still very early and their sales may not reach the level that they are hoping for but the idea that it is possible is a very good sign. NES Retro Classic Controller USB Posted: 03 Feb 2010 09:38 PM PST I don't care how fancy controllers get nowadays, I'm always going to have a soft spot for the first one that I fell in love with. Sure, there were only four buttons and one directional pad but that's all that was needed – in fact, it was more than enough! If you've ever felt nostalgic for the good ol' days, you might want to pick up an NES Retro Classic Controller USB. You can't use it with the Wii or anything but you can use it with PC or Mac games. It's not ergonomic, it's got too few buttons for any titles past NES but who cares? You're buying it for the memories, my friends, and it will be totally worth it. In fact, I wouldn't be disappointed if I was sent one to review (wink, wink!). image: Amazon Post from: EveryJoe NES Retro Classic Controller USB |
Ginger Cocktails and Chocolate Posted: 03 Feb 2010 09:32 PM PST Yazi Ginger Vodka is one of only a few ginger-flavored vodkas in the world and it’s perfectly suited to pair with Valentine's trademark candy –chocolate. Julian Rose, a chocolate expert and master chocolatier for Moonstruck Chocolate, suggests pairing Yazi ginger vodka with dark chocolate and truffles. ![]() Image: Hood River Distillers "Yazi is exceptional with Moonstruck's 68 percent dark chocolate and brings out the deep roasted cocoa notes as well as complements the bitterness of the chocolate," said Rose. "The ginger flavor is complementary, yet doesn't overpower the chocolate. I would also pair Yazi Ginger Vodka with Moonstruck's milk chocolate orange caramel, our Grenada Truffle or our French Silk Chocolate Mousse. All of these flavors would be great pairings." Yazi is produced by Hood River Distillers and sells for approximately $30.
