Use Twitter As A Reminder Service Posted: 25 Feb 2010 09:00 PM PST You’re on twitter all day, so why don’t you make it work for you. In fact you can even make it serve you as your own little personal assistant for all those little, but very important things you always seem to forget anyway. If you follow @timer on twitter, you can send yourself little reminders that are set on a schedule and be notified of that item as you need, when you need it. With the requirements being straight-forward and simple, you’ve got the flexibility to be pretty creative with the reminders. Don’t count on the service to be absolutely precise though. Remember we’re dealing with the intarwebs here, things could get delayed unexpectedly. I guess that should also serve as a bit of a reminder not to use the service for those absolutely crucial reminders, or at least not solely rely on them. You know, the really serious stuff. I just used it to remind myself to call a restaurant tomorrow to make dinner reservations for the weekend. So, go follow @timer, and send them a direct message with the number of minutes from now you want to be reminded and what you want to be reminded of at that time. Can’t be much simpler. Toyota’s Re-call Issues Understandable Posted: 25 Feb 2010 08:17 PM PST The big news this week is the CEO of Toyota coming before Congress to justify and explain their position on the recent re-call of millions of their vehicles. Did they wait too late? Did they save too much money avoiding the re-call? Did they wrongly blame the drivers? Honestly, I don’t have too much of a problem with a large company with a large impact on the general public of the United States to be questioned about their responsibility to the safety of that same public. My biggest hang-up with the whole issue now is that the organization doing the questioning is the United States government, when they have their own little car company (Government Motor Company) in their back pocket. You think there’s any benefit with the US Government knocking out a major competitor to increase the likelihood of getting a better return on their But at this point I’m a little tainted with the government’s recent involvement in major league baseball, NCAA national football championship and other useless endeavors far below what they should really be focusing on. Which, in my opinion is to get as much out of the way as possible and let the American people fix the country with their own hard work and determination. Posted: 25 Feb 2010 07:01 PM PST Sadly, it is being reported that Growing Pains star, Andrew Koenig was found dead this afternoon. The 41-year-old star was found in Vancouver's famous Stanley Park, after he was reported missing since February 18th. Before he left on his trip to see friends in Toronto and Vancouver, he was said to have moved out of his apartment in Venice, California. Additionally, he sold some of his things through a garage sale. Then, on the 16th, he sent a note to his parents, which was described as being despondent, and he missed his flight back to California. He is the son of Walter Koenig, who starred on the hit TV series, Star Trek as Pavel Chekov. Walter has confirmed that his son committed suicide. In a press conference today, he said, "My son took his own life. He was obviously in a lot of pain." The cause of death has not been revealed. Yesterday Walter and his wife took to a televised press conference to beg their son to let them know whether or not he was alright. They also made a plea to the residents of Vancouver to keep an eye out for Andrew. This is so unbelievably tragic. I feel so deeply crushed for them right now. They must be feeling unimaginable pain, and I only wish them the best. Post from: EveryJoe |
Ke$ha’s “Blah Blah Blah” Music Video Posted: 25 Feb 2010 06:30 PM PST It's been hard enough to escape Ke$ha's hit single "Tik Tok", but new the singer has released the music video for yet another song. Her newest single is called "Blah Blah Blah" and is off of her debut album Animal. The song features the vocal talents of 3OH!3. The song was inspired by when she, Benny Blanco, Neon Hitch and Sean Foreman (of 3OH!3) were together. They guys were talking about how much girls talk, while she and Neon Hitch argued that guys talk too much. So, this life-changing song was spawned from that conversation. I actually don't mind this song in comparison with that annoying song, "Tik Tok." The video is also a lot better. Check it out below: Post from: EveryJoe Ke$ha’s “Blah Blah Blah” Music Video |
An Analytical Look at Brett Favre Posted: 25 Feb 2010 01:24 PM PST Okay, I admit that when I see a sportscaster or blogger yak about Brett Favre, I tend to look away. It’s that “over hyped” thing about Favre that drives most people crazy. Simply put, they don’t want to hear about him anymore. But one thing is certain, Favre has carved out a name for himself as being a player with the most interceptions. He’s got the interception record, after all. That’s why I was particularly interested in David Arreola’s recent article called “Brett Favre: Dispelling The Myth of the Interception King.” The name alone is something to make you stop what you’re doing and read what he has to say, doesn’t it? Arreola tried an analytical approach to this interception business when it comes to Favre. After all, statistics don’t lie, do they? (I know some of you are groaning at this, but still, give me a minute.) Arreola looked interception ratio, interception percentage, and the fact that Favre has never missed a game. (Obviously Arreola isn’t counting that unfortunate year with the Falcons.) The point is, when Favre started playing, he didn’t stop. In all the accounts, Favre was found to be among the average compared to other quarterbacks when it came to interceptions. The final point Arreola makes is that:
He follows this by reminding us that Favre has some pretty good years before 2000. Does it dispel the interception king label? In my opinion, it only adds to the legend. But Arreola did an interesting job of running numbers. It still doesn’t change the fact that Favre is in the record books for most interceptions. But it does remind us that perhaps it isn’t the number of interceptions, but the fact that they are certainly ill-timed that really make the difference. Jayson Williams Gets Five Years in Prison Posted: 25 Feb 2010 01:02 PM PST Former NBA player Jayson Williams was sentenced to five years in prison for shooting a hired limo driver on Valentine’s Day in 2002. Williams was giving people a tour of his house when he stopped in his bedroom and showed them his gun collection. According to Fox Sports, he picked up a “double-barreled 12-gauge shotgun,” and without checking the safety, and when he closed the gun it went off. It hit the limo driver, Gus Christofi in the chest and killed him. What’s even worse, Williams tried to cover up the crime. Despite that there was a crowd of people in th house, Williams put the gun in Christofi’s hands and told everyone else there to lie about what really went down. Despite his five year sentence, Williams will be eligible for parole in just a year and a half. Image: Zuma Press Post from: EveryJoe Jayson Williams Gets Five Years in Prison |
Happily Married Men Have Lower Stroke Risk Posted: 25 Feb 2010 05:34 AM PST It seems that men who are happily married have a lower risk of having a stroke (cerebral vascular accident, or CVA) than are men who are single or in unhappy marriages, say researchers who presented study findings at the American Stroke Association’s International Conference.
According to the study findings, men who were single had a 64% higher chance of having a fatal (deadly) stroke than married men. But, and this is important, among the married men, those who were in unhappy relationships had a 64% higher risk than those who were in happy marriages. It could be that a happy relationship encourages a healthier lifestyle, as well as reduces stress or balances outside stresses. ~~~ Image: iStock.com Post from: EveryJoe Happily Married Men Have Lower Stroke Risk |
Benefits of Stretching After Your Workout Posted: 24 Feb 2010 10:26 PM PST Stretching is somewhat of a gray area in fitness now because of more studies showing it doesn’t reduce the risk of injury. Nevertheless, I do recommend you give your muscles a nice stretch after you workout. One reason is this may actually help strengthen the muscles. From the information I have received, you actually get better muscle building because your muscle fibers are completely torn so that they can rebuild and recover into even bigger in stronger muscles. Another reason to stretch after your workout is because you’re actually warm and stretches will be easier and less painful. This is the best time to work on your range of motion and enhance your flexibility. It’s been said that an after workout stretch can also reduce muscle soreness the next day. I recommend you try post workout stretching and see what the results are in your case. If you see no results after a month, you can always jump ship. New-Look Mavericks Down Lakers Posted: 24 Feb 2010 09:41 PM PST In the Western Conference, the Los Angeles Lakers are the measuring stick. With that in mind, the new-look Dallas Mavericks have to be thrilled with the results on Wednesday. In a close contest, the Mavs outlasted the Lakers and won by a final score of 101-96. Although the newly acquired Caron Butler was out due to an allergic reaction, the newly acquired center did good work. In 39 minutes, Brendan Haywood had 11 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots. He also helped limit Andrew Bynum to 10 points — more than five points below his average. The big stars for Dallas on the night were Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Terry. Nowitzki led the way with 31 points and nine rebounds, while Terry had 30 points, three rebounds and three assists. The Lakers, per usual, were led by Kobe Bryant, however the superstar didn’t have a very good game. He scored 20 points but missed 14-of-23 field goal attempts. With the win, the Mavs retain their spot atop the Southwest Division with a record of 37-21. The 43-15 Lakers are still comfortably atop the Western Conference standings, even with the loss.
