Next Call of Duty To Be Set in Nam

Posted: 19 Feb 2010 06:50 PM PST

Looks like the Call of Duty people are finally done with the FPS go-to that is World War II and have moved on to the Vietnam War.

Yay for new wars! Yay for not beating the dead horse that is WWII! Yay for awesome music!

OK. I’m assuming there will be good music. Please?

According to VG247, Activision is casting for motion capture and voice actors and if you read the character descriptions, Vietnam’s mentioned a couple of times.

Another change is the fact that Infinity Ward isn’t doing the next Call of Duty.

Treyarch – who did World at War – is handling development [along with Activison startup Sledgehammer] on the still unnamed Call of Duty game. One thing we do know is that the game is set to hit shelves November of this year and will be influenced by Platoon and Apocalypse Now [both awesome films].

Though I’m excited by the change of wars [that's something I never thought I'd ever write] I can’t help but wonder what the game will feel like since I’ve gotten so used to an Infinity Ward created title.

What do you guys think? Will Treyarch’s new Call of Duty title stand up to recent titles like Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2?

Why Does Tiger Woods Owe Me an Apology?

Posted: 19 Feb 2010 05:06 PM PST

Tiger Woods decided to emerge from three months of hibernation today to deliver an apologetic message regarding his marital indiscretions. Personally, I was wondering why he had to make a public apology. The incident was between Tiger and his family. As someone who is more of an admirer of Tiger’s golfing talents than a “fan,” he certainly didn’t owe me an apology. I could care less other than feeling sorry the whole incident(s) happened in the first place.

Nevertheless, I understand a lot of people have invested in Tiger’s “empire” and he did owe them some kind of explanation for the bizarre turn of events that led him into seclusion, rehab and—embarrassingly—the front page of the supermarket tabloids after a Thanksgiving Day 2009 car crash. I just thought it could have been better handled from the start. And from there, it’s really none of our business.

ESPN.com was doing a poll as to whether Tiger’s apology was sincere or insincere. Kind of like when Michael Vick went on 60 Minutes to talk about why he killed dogs for fun. I think Tiger is sincerely sorry for his actions, but the way he delivered his message was a disaster. Tiger has always tried to be a private person, protecting any emotion about his personal life. So today he seemed extremely robotic and uncomfortable. During some parts of the “speech,” it almost seemed as though what was written on the paper in front of him also included commands like “Pause and stare at camera,” “Sound angry” and “Pretend to be choked up.” It was either that or Tiger is the worst public speaker ever. It was difficult to watch. As long as the whole thing was staged, you would’ve thought he would’ve been coached up to present it differently. If you haven’t seen it yet, save yourself the agony and just read the transcript.

I won’t get into the whole “athletes are role models” discussion here. But I’ve been around professional athletes long enough (and I’ve read enough books written by athletes) to know this kind of thing (marital infidelity), sadly, goes on all the time in professional sports. Obviously, it’s the wrong road to go down. But it also doesn’t give us the right to judge. Tiger did what he did. He got caught. He’s responsible for his actions. He has to pay the price now. His image is ruined. His marriage and family life as he knew it are in serious jeopardy. And that’s just the beginning of the bad. There’s just nothing good about this situation except to hope it gets better—that he and his family can pull their lives back together. So, if we insist on being involved, maybe we can spend our time being hopeful and prayerful for the guy rather than bashing him.

Tina Fey May Return as Palin on “SNL”

Posted: 19 Feb 2010 02:30 PM PST

Former Saturday Night Live cast member, Tina Fey, is set to return to the show as the host in April and many have been wondering whether she could possibly be reprising her role as former Alaskan governor, Sarah Palin.

Fey's impression of Palin gained immense popularity during the 2008 Presidential Elections, in which Sarah was running for Vice President alongside senator John McCain.

When asked about returning and cracking out the sketch again, Tina responded, "It's inevitable that we'll try it, at least. We'll see if it makes it to air."

During the campaign, the SNL ratings increased pretty significantly. Tina even won an Emmy Award in September for it.

If they came make it work, I'd like to see a return!

Wii Nerf Racing Wheel

Get into the spirit of Wii racing by enjoying the feel of a real wheel.  Though Nintendo may have its own wheel to accompany such games, it really doesn't compare to the more comfortable feel of the Nerf Racing Wheel. Wii Nerf Racing Wheel

This one features soft, padded protection, and the material is indented around the thumb and palm area, to give you a better grip.

It's also got an opening on the side, which allows the pointing device on the remote to continue to function, so you don't have to keep taking it out of the wheel. Another plus? The color scheme! You can get the wheels in orange, blue, green, red and black.

I would definitely use something like this for Mario Kart!If you like it, at GameStop.com, they go for $11.99 each.

Vasectomies and March Madness Connection

Posted: 19 Feb 2010 01:20 PM PST

Is there a best time to have a vasectomy? Many men will say “no,” but according to some doctors in Chicago, three days before basketball’s March Madness is the perfect time to have it done.

Think about it. Although vasectomies are relatively minor procedures, they do require some recovery time. For the first few days, you need to apply ice and take it easy, to be sure the testicular area doesn’t become too swollen. There may also be some pain, which may limit your activity.

If you have a vasectomy just before March Madness, the doctors say you have the perfect excuse to sit in front of the TV and relax – take it easy. According to this article, Urologists: Get A Vasectomy Before NCAA Tourney, one urology clinic takes it even a step further, offering freebies, such as free pizza and even a bag of frozen peas to use as an ice pack.

They may have a good idea there – I wonder how many men take them up on their offer?

In Theatres Now: “Shutter Island”

Posted: 19 Feb 2010 01:15 PM PST

Looking to spend your Friday night out at the movie theatre? You might be interested in the film, Shutter Island. The movie, directed by Martin Scorsese, is based on the 2003 novel, written by Shutter IslandDennis Lehane.

The film has a pretty great cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Kingsley and Michelle Williams. It is set back in 1954 where U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels (DiCaprio) is searching for a murderess, who disappears from a hospital for the criminally insane. The hospital is located on – you guessed it- Shutter Island.

The movie looks really intense. You can check out the official trailer for Shutter Island below:

Taylor Swift’s “Fearless” Music Video

Posted: 19 Feb 2010 11:00 AM PST

On Wednesday, February 17th, Taylor Swift finally released the music video for her single "Fearless." The song is the title track from her 2008 album and was originally released for digital download in October of that year, debuting at #9 on Billboard Hot 100.  Taylor Swift Fearless

However, it has just recently been released for airplay. It has now been making it's way back on to the Hot 100. Actually, the song broke a record for the first single to be certified gold before even being released.

She was constantly asked whether the song was about anyone in particular, but Swift says she wasn't dating anyone at the time. Rather, the song is about what she wished she had.

The music video contains features from her Fearless Tour. And yes, the video is meant to look low quality. You know, to give it that authentic feel. Take a look at it below:

Chicks of the Day: Kim Kardashian and JWOWW

Posted: 19 Feb 2010 10:53 AM PST

Kim Kardashian is another one of dozens (hundreds?) of celebrities who are dabbling in fashion. The Kim Kardashian Bebe line debuted in NY earlier this week. And I have to say that Kim’s assets were looking amazing, as usual. If you are an ass man, Kim Kardashian must be on your worship list.

Jersey Shore star JWOWW (Jenni Farley) was also at the event. There was some controversy as Jenni didn’t get to met Kim, and some said that Kim was miffed at all the attention that JWOWW was receiving at her event.

"I really wanted to go there just to meet Kim, but that didn't happen. I don't know why," Farley said. "I was really wishing that I could meet her, I don't know if it was because there was too much media surrounding me, or I took too long answering the media questions. I don't know what happened."

Did Jenni upstage Kim at her own event? Who knows… who cares. Maybe they can do some Jello wrestling to hash it out. Yum.  Kardashian's new clothing line for Bebe Stores is entitled Bebe-Kardashian, for those who are interested.

Sony Makes Home 3D Look Cool

Posted: 19 Feb 2010 05:56 AM PST

I’m not sure what it is but I always seem to love Sony products for the most part. Except for the PlayStation, which I’ve always kept at the bottom of my list for preferred home gaming consoles, I’d pick Sony products first just about every time.

Sony-3D-glasses-TV

I’d say the biggest factor of why Sony products seem to always catch my eye is because they always seem to be eye-catching. I would say Sony is the one technology brand that comes closest to having the Apple "cool factor" than any other.

The latest thing to catch my eye were these 3D home glasses for use with the Sony BRAVIA HDTV that delivers full 1080p high-quality, 3-D imagery to your living room. The BRAVIA TV works with the active shutter glasses shown to bring the illusion of 3D images to the home user.

Sony’s approach to 3D involves alternately displaying images for the left eye and right eye at a high frame rate. When viewed through the included active shutter glasses, the on-screen image is precisely synchronized and delivered with the full HD image intact, for an optimum 3D viewing experience.

I think with glasses that look more like these and not goggles of some sort, this could take off a little bit more than I had originally expected.

Dumbells for Better Home Fitness

Posted: 18 Feb 2010 09:55 PM PST

You don’t need a $2,000 home fitness center to get a great workout at home. Actually, you can accomplish a lot with just 1 set of dumbells.

Some Exercises Include:

curls
chest press
chest flies
shoulder shrugs
crunches w/ weight
tricep extensions
shoulder press
lunges
squats
calf raises

As you can see, this is an impressive list standing alone. With more creativity, you can easily add 5 more ways to strengthen your muscles – and this is just from one set of barbells.

For women, I recommend a 8 to 15 lb set. For men, I recommend a 20 to 45 lb set. Obviously these numbers vary according to your capability, but generally you want to get a weight that could present a challenge in most exercises – perhaps even a little heavy at first so you can grow into it. Of course, if you’re willing to spend more money, you can always buy another weight to go along with your first set.

This goes to show you don’t need an entire home fitness center. With just a pair of dumbells and your body weight, you can have a great resistance training session.
