Vonn’s Hot “Sports Illustrated” Cover Posted: 05 Feb 2010 08:56 PM PST Everyone has been talking about Lindsey Vonn on the cover of Sports Illustrated. There's all sorts of chatter about how the image objectifies women and is overly sexual. I just don't see it that way at all.
Is Vonn not in the classic tuck position that is associated with her sport? Is she not representing what skiers wear or do? What do you think? Is this a very sexual cover shot? Post from: EveryJoe Vonn’s Hot “Sports Illustrated” Cover |
Timberwolves Shock Mavericks in Dallas Posted: 05 Feb 2010 08:43 PM PST After missing shootaround, Dirk Nowitzki was punished by being removed from the starting lineup in the contest between the Dallas Mavericks and the Minnesota Timberwolves. Once the game start, the Mavs realized they had even more problems. When it was all said and done, the T’Wolves had went into Dallas and escaped with a 117-108 victory. After Nowitzki tied the game with a free throw with around two minutes remaining, Jonny Flynn’s layup gave the lead back to Minnesota. Erick Dampier split a pair at the line and then Nowitzki fouled Corey Brewer on a three-pointer — and Brewer went to the line and hit all three. Following a Nowitzki miss, rookie Wayne Ellington nailed a three-pointer to seal the win for the T’Wolves. Minnesota had six players in double figures, including all five of their starters. Flynn had 19 points and seven assists, while Kevin Love had 17 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. Nowitzki led the Mavs with 21 points in 37 minutes, even though he came off the bench. Jason Terry led the starters with 20 points. The loss drops the Mavs to 31-19 on the season, while the T’Wolves improve to 12-38 following the win. Could There Be an “Avatar” Sequel? Posted: 05 Feb 2010 08:10 PM PST James Cameron isn't ruling out a sequel to his highly popular Avatar. Are you surprised? I'm not! The only reason he didn't milk Titanic for more was because the boat sink – where can you go from there? In an interview with CNN, Cameron said: "We might be persuaded. We’ll have to see how much money the movie makes first." He also seemed a little surprised by how well the film has done. "And that’s not some sort of false humility. We thought it was gonna be a commercial movie, but we didn’t think it was gonna do half of what it’s done financially. I see a very similar pattern, in a sense, between Titanic and Avatar. Not that they are similar films because they are not — totally different subjects — but in both cases, you have people coming back over and over to see the film." Avatar has made 2.05 billion dollars worldwide and has secured nine Oscar nominations, including "Best Film" and "Best Director." image: 20th Century Fox Post from: EveryJoe Could There Be an “Avatar” Sequel? |
Dustin Johnson Makes Hole in One Posted: 05 Feb 2010 06:04 PM PST Dustin Johnson sits atop the Northern Trust Open leaderboad. On Friday at hole number six, Johnson’s hole in one gave him even more momentum. The shot, which was from 152 yards, was authored using an 8-iron. Due to darkness, Johnson wasn’t able to finish his round on Friday — he only got through 16. And while he had to be happy with his hole in one, Johnson didn’t seem too pleased about the rain that stuck around for most of the day. Said Johnson: “I’m very happy to be done with the round, to tell you the truth. It was pretty miserable out there today.” Tied with Johnson at 10-under is Steve Stricker, who shot a 65 on Friday. Andres Romero is 7-under, while Justin Rose, Kevin Stadler and Tim Wilkinson are at 6-under. Phil Mickelson is tied for 11th at 4-under and he’s still optimistic heading into the weekend. “I’m in a position where a good round tomorrow and I can get in contention for Sunday,” said Mickelson, “so that’s where I wanted to get myself.” The Northern Trust Open has a purse of $6.4 million and is being played at Riviera CC in Pacific Palisades, California. Does Brett Favre Make Sportscasters Lazy? Posted: 05 Feb 2010 03:38 PM PST There’s an interesting phenomenon I’ve noticed in the last couple years when it comes to Brett Favre. It is simply this: Favre playing in a game makes sports casters lazy. Allow me to explain. Like the rest of the sports world, there seems to be a polarizing effect with Favre. You like him or hate him. He’s the greatest thing since sliced bread or he’s overrated. I expect fans to be of this mindset, but for sportscasters it’s their job to call all the details of a game. Either, the sportscaster will go on (and on) about the abilities of Favre, how he can pull a magical pass out of his bucket, or come up with an amazing play. They will focus on him to the point of losing what else happens in a game. To the point of ignoring the other players, or somehow diminishing their contributions. The reverse is also true. If a team Favre plays on loses, well then it’s automatically his fault. I saw this all over the Internet after the Vikings lost to the Saints. The only story seemed to be “Favre threw an interception” instead of the five key fumbles that the Vikings players made. Favre’s interception wasn’t (this time) the cause of the loss. But it didn’t seem to matter. This lazy reporting bugs me, because it dumbs down the game. In the end, Favre is just a player. He’s got records, and statistically is the greatest one we’ve seen. But he is just one of the eleven out on the field. I wonder if sportscasters have forgotten that? Image: Zuma Press Post from: EveryJoe Does Brett Favre Make Sportscasters Lazy? |
In Theatres: “From Paris With Love” Posted: 05 Feb 2010 11:18 AM PST From Paris With Love (try to ignore how cheesy it is that they ripped the James Bond From Russia With Love) opens today in theaters and I am not sure how good it's going to be but if you're desperate to see an action flick in the middle of Valentine's season then this might be your best bet.
The film stars a bald John Travolta as special agent Charlie Wax who is described as a loose cannon with a penchant for shooting his gun. He's partnered up with James Rees (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), a personal aide to the U.S. Ambassador in France who has just been given his first senior-level CIA assignment. The pair embark on a crazy mission through the Parisian underworld in an effort to thwart a terrorist attack. Post from: EveryJoe In Theatres: “From Paris With Love” |
LeBron James On Point As Cavs Beat The Heat Posted: 05 Feb 2010 09:06 AM PST What do you get when you slide LeBron James over to point guard? You get 36 points, eight assists and a 10th straight win. The Cleveland Cavaliers were forced to readjust their starting line-up and move James to the point before their game against the Miami Heat last night. ![]() LeBron James picked up the slack at point against the Miami Heat last night. James took over the point guard position because Mo Williams and Delonte West are recovering from injuries, and Daniel Gibson had to rush off to the hospital to be at his pregnant fiance’s side, as she was rushed to the emergency room for complications. (His fiance happens to be R&B singer Keyshia Cole). “I knew I was going to have the ball in my hands a lot because I was the starting point guard or point forward, whatever you want to call it,” James said on ESPN.com. “Like Magic [Johnson]. I can go coast to coast and do a lot of things with the ball that point guards in this league can’t do.” James scored 17 of his 36 points at the free throw line. He was able to drive the lane and draw fouls, while his All-Star counterpart Dwyane Wade only made it to the charity strip twice in the entire game. Gibson arrived in time to play in the second half, adding 12 points to another impressive win for the Cavs. I don’t think it matters where you put James on the court, he can basically play any position and succeed. Even if you let him be the water boy, he’d still find a way to contribute and impact the game. James has won the NBA conference player of the month three months in a row, and the Cavs have the best record in the entire league. He’s clearly on a mission, and fully prepared to do what he has to do in order to accomplish his goal. Can anyone say NBA Championship? Posted: 05 Feb 2010 08:41 AM PST Is Apple’s new device the start of a paradigm-shifting revolution? Or just a casual-user’s toy? Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of the tablet that everybody’s talking about. PROS:The iPad does a lot of individual things really, really well.
The iPad’s price might be it’s most astounding feature. Never has a device so fast and powerful been available at such a low price. And while that price will probably remain steady over time (or possibly lower a a bit), the quality and features of the device will just get better in future iterations. The iPad packages incredible horsepower inside a sleek, sexy package that’s intuitive and easy to use. CONS:No multitasking. This is a biggie, and it’s bound to be a deal-breaker for some. It’s just flat-out astonishing that a device with as much horsepower as the iPad is incapable of running multiple programs at one time. The iPad will never be a productivity workhorse if it’s never allowed to multitask. This needs to be Priority #1 on iPad 2.0. Third-party apps aren’t there yet. Sure, there’s a ton of cool apps out there for the iPhone already, and a lot of them are good. Really good. But what about productivity apps? I’d be willing to consider trading in my laptop for a tablet if I could do all the same stuff on it. Will there ever be a Word for iPad? Photoshop for iPad? It remains to be seen if big players like Microsoft or Adobe have any interest in developing for iPad. Speaking of Adobe… Flash is not supported on iPad, just as it’s always been on the iPhone and iTouch. The reason for this is simple: Flash doesn’t play nice with Macs. It never really has. Sure, it performs adequately, but it’s a major resource hog. But this being a con for the iPad is debatable, since the HTML 5 specification renders Flash video all but obsolete anyway. So it may not be long before this seeming “oversight” on Apple’s part could be deemed “forward thinking.” You’re stuck with Apple’s proprietary web browser, Safari. Safari’s adequate and all, but what if I want Firefox? Or Google Chrome? Will Apple approve the apps if Mozilla and Google want to create iPad versions of their browsers? No webcam. If ever a device was made for video chatting or conferencing, it seems like the iPad would be it. Yet the absence of a built-in webcam is a glaring oversight. What do you think? The iPad is a great value for the money, considering all it can do and how powerful it is. But is it a must-have? iPad Images: Apple, Inc. Post from: EveryJoe |

Chick of the Day: Odette Yustman Posted: 04 Feb 2010 09:34 PM PST Actress and model Odette Yustman was one of the kids in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Kindergarten Cop back in the day. And much more recently she has appeared in J.J Abrams’ Cloverfield and starred in the horror flick The Unborn. (That’s her butt on the poster below.) ![]() Image: Rogue Pictures The bilingual Spanish hottie has modeled quite a bit and captured the attention of many back in 2008 with her sexy GQ shoot. Let’s take a look back at Odette in her wet T-shirt. She can come over and wash my car anytime.
