How to Lose 5 Pounds in 2 Weeks

Posted: 17 Feb 2010 07:02 PM PST

For some reason two weeks is one of the favorite time periods people give themselves to lose weight. In both realistic and healthy terms, the most weight you’re going to lose in two weeks is about 5 pounds.

5 pounds is equal to a calorie deficit of 17500 which means you’ve got a lot of work to do while exercising plenty of discipline. Split down the middle between exercise and less eating, this gives you 8750 to make up on both sides.

For your diet this means you will need to eat 625 calories less per each day.

This goes the same for burning calories. You must average 625 calories burned along with the cut back calorie intake of 625 for a total deficit of 1250 calories per day. If you already eat a heavy number of calories, this will be easy to subtract out. However, if you aren’t eating 2500 or more calories per day then you may not even need to lose 5 pounds. The answer here would be more exercise and a steady diet.

Paramore “The Only Exception” Music Video

Posted: 17 Feb 2010 01:56 PM PST

The music video for Paramore's "The Only Exception" has been released to coincide with the lovey dovey feel in the air from Valentine's Day. The song is the third released track off of their newest album, Brand New Eyes, in stores now.  Brand new eyes

Lead singer, Hayley Williams had said it was risky to be releasing a ballad like this, when fans are used to their upbeat and catchy tracks.

However, she is confident with the decision to release "The Only Exception", saying it's a chance for them to shake things up a bit and be different. Paramore is pretty interested to see how the world reacts to their more emotional side.

Are you liking this side of Paramore? I think both the song and video are pretty touching and it's interesting to see them stepping out of the comfort zone. It's good to see something different.

If you're a Gleek then I'm sure you can't wait for the return of Glee! The show went on hiatus in the middle of all this unbelievable drama and won't be returning until April.  20090511_zaf_d79_042

If you haven't seen the show before, it's currently in its first season and will be returning to finish the end of the season on April 13.

Here's a little overview on all the juicy drama that has taken place. On the last episode before the hiatus of Glee, we saw Emma Pillsbury postpone her wedding in order to take Glee club leader, Will Schuester's place at sectionals.

Her fiancé is furious, claiming she always chooses Will over him. Meanwhile, everyone finds out that Puck is actually the father of Quinn's baby – and Finn was furious and takes off before sectionals. They are forced to use Jacob Ben Israel to fill in for him.

At sectionals, they realize another group has the same song list as them. Ms Pillsbury calls Will, who is able to convince Finn to come perform. They are able to pull together to win it.

After finding out his wife has lied to him about being pregnant, he tells her he doesn't love her. Meanwhile, Emma's fiancé calls off the wedding, saying that Emma's feelings for Will are too strong.  She decides to quit her job at the school, but Will chases after her and ends the episode with a kiss.

Now, you can take a look at a preview of the upcoming drama. I can't wait to see what else will happen. Not too much longer! Check out the sneak peek below:

Jerez the Spot Again This Week

Posted: 17 Feb 2010 01:00 PM PST

The boys of Formula One were out on the track of Jerez again this week taking their cars through their paces to get them ready for the up coming start of the 2010 Formula One season. The weather wasn’t perfect for the tests but the racers were in fine form for this part of the season. They all looked like they had prepared well for the 2010 season and were looking forward to getting the season started. This part of the season is probably the worst part for men of action, like Formula One drivers are, they live for the adrenalin that flows through their veins as they prepare to race. Waiting isn’t something they like doing, but in their business you learn to look cool waiting around, even though you’re insides are doing the loop-de-loop.

Michael looked pretty good but has speed to find.

Sebastian Vettel had the fastest run of the four day test-week in his Red Bull offering, with a time of 1:22:593 seconds, and looked fast and precise while doing it. His best time was over four-tenths better than the best time posted by his nearest competitor of the week, Lewis Hamilton, in his McLaren. Lewis had to dodge showers during his run, but managed to look pretty good out on the track, despite running second to Vettel for the week. McLaren obviously still has some work to do on the car, as all the teams do, but the McLaren offering looked slower than last year. This could just be me and my perception, or wishful thinking, but if they don’t get the car running better its going to be a tough year for McLaren.

Felipe Massa made a nice return to a Formula One track with a third best time during the week of tests, just ahead of a Toro Rosso offering driven by Sebastien Vuemi with an engine of the same name. BMW Sauber finished the four days of testing with the fifth best time of the week, Pedro de la Rossa was behind the wheel and he looked pretty comfortable. Pedro de la Rossa had the uncomfortable position of being just ahead of former Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher on the time sheet. You definitely won’t feel comfortable if you’re on the track and Michael Schumacher is in your rear view mirror. It must feel like being hunted, like your time could be counted and about to end.

Adrian Sutil and Paul Di Resta finished the week with the seventh and eighth best times respectively, they both had pretty good weeks and they’re both looking good for a pretty good season. The Renault offering finished the week with the ninth best time with Vitaly Petrov behind the wheel of the R30, while Rubens Barrichello finished the week with the tenth best time in his FW32 for Williams.

Valentino Rossi is an Aquarian?

Posted: 17 Feb 2010 12:59 PM PST

Valentino Rossi fanatics and fans will probably know that their number one man is about to celebrate his thirty-first year on the planet Earth on February 16. This means Valentino Rossi’s birthday, like my own, falls under the sign of aquarius on the astronomical charts. A fact that many astronomical fanatics would tell you is significant in many ways in the life of Valentino Rossi and I would have to agree. The stars and planets circling above us pull and tug on our being in more ways that we know, I feel, and one day we will hopefully have a better of idea of how they do so.

Valentino Rossi turns thirty one today!

Valentino certainly has the drive that aquarians are known for and the focus that often allows them to excel. After winning nine world championships on his bike, seven in the premier class of MotoGP, the focus and drive of the man can hardly be in doubt. He competes in a sport where it is unusual for a racer to win one world championship, let alone nine in two different classes. Also, Valentino’s skills go beyond racing bikes as his foray into race car driving has shown in recent years, and one gets the idea that this gentlemen probably would have been good at whatever he decided to do. Certainly, it must be said that he found the thing early in life that he was meant to do, race sportbikes, but the skills he possesses would certainly transmit well to other sports and activities in life.

Valentino Rossi is turning 31 today, but he looks to be picking up speed in his life, rather than slowing down. After fourteen years racing in the toughest sports arena for sportbike racers in the world, you think he might loose a bit of focus or concentration for a moment of two. No such luck for the other racers, who might have often wished their racing careers had occurred in a different age than the age of Valentino Rossi. If they’re going to win the elusive world championship they want, they’re going to have to go pass the Valentino Rossi Express, somewhere along the way, and nobody has been able to do that during a full season, so far.

2009 did appear to be one of the toughest yet for Valentino, but he still managed to come out on top again. Can he do it again is the question all his fans are asking and it’s a question that will be answered very shortly.

How to Turn a Team Like the Lions Around

Posted: 17 Feb 2010 11:45 AM PST

The Detroit Lions has a better season last year than the year before, but when you’ve lost every single game of the year that isn’t saying much. They did some hard work in finally getting rid of GM Matt Millen, they have a hot new quarterback, but as NBC sports points out, they still had to lower season ticket prices for the upcoming year. “In 2009 four of the Lions’ eight regular-season home games failed to sell out and were blacked out on local television.”

Season tickets are important because a sellout means the game is televised in the local area. More people seeing the game in person or on TV can help drum up support of the team. That means more jersey sales, more game tickets, more rallying for the team. All important factors in football.

More important, however, is a good team. The Lions have made a start by hiring a new coach and great quarterback. While they have other great players, they still don’t play as a cohesive team. They don’t gel. Is that the players fault or the coach’s? A little of both. In the off-season they need to work on getting protection for their quarterback, and on a defense that can pass rush.

When a team has been down for so long, I think it takes a minimum of four years to set it back on the right track again. A year to get a new coach and management. A year to find a quarterback and break him in so he performs. A year to get the rest of the team gelling. All the while, the team is winning more, slowly but surely. By the third year they finally have a winning season. By the fourth year, they are in the playoffs. By that estimate, the Lions have about three more to go before we see them at the top of the NFC North.

Posted: 17 Feb 2010 10:11 AM PST

Gardasil, the highly touted vaccine against some types HPV (human papillomavirus), some of which can cause cervical cancer, is now being investigated as a vaccine against anal cancer in homosexual men.

So far, the vaccine has been approved for use in the United States for girls and young women, as well as boys and young men to prevent genital warts, and in girls and young women to prevent cervical cancer. Now, according to this news report, Gardasil: Wider Use Sought for Vaccine, it may have even more indications.

The article says that two studies, sponsored by the manufacturer of Gardasil, have been done. The results showed that not only was Gardasil about 89% in preventing HPV infections, genital warts and cervical cancer, it also seemed to be about 77% effective in preventing precancerous lesions and anal cancer in gay men.

  • Bleeding from the anus or rectum
  • Pain in the anal area

  • Anal itching

Risk factors

Although anyone can develop anal cancer, there are several factors that can increase the risk of developing it. These include:
