Trying to Deal with Website Overlay Problems Posted: 09 Feb 2010 08:20 PM PST [Stepping on soap box] I’ve got a little bit of a bone to pick with developers. I’m not sure though if I should be upset with website designers or with application and plugin developers. In this case the app developers are the folks behind Evernote and the website developer is Mozilla Firefox. I’ve really enjoyed my overall experience with Evernote and take most of my actions from within the Evernote bookmarklet tool. The problem is that sometimes the website has divs or other layer objects that lay on top of the user-interface for the Evernote application. It doesn’t just happen with Evernote, but it’s my last experience, so that’s the one I’m going to complain about at the moment. With the issue above, I can’t even save the details I’m wanting to archive for later use. The layer from the website is obstructing the view and ability for me to click on the buttons within the Evernote tool. It’s really a pain. I’m not sure what the solution is. Should an app be expected to always have the highest z-index numbering to make sure it lays on top? Should we instead expect web developers to take advantage of controls within their own responsibility? Time for all you developers and designers to speak up and let us know. How to Build Running Endurance Posted: 09 Feb 2010 07:49 PM PST Endurance gives you the ability to maintain a running pace for longer periods of time. If you can only go 10 minutes of running without stopping to walk, your endurance is low. To build your endurance, try the following twists to some of your workouts.

Longhorns Send Clothing to Haiti Posted: 09 Feb 2010 07:14 PM PST ![]() Texas celebrated during this interception, but unfortunately for the Longhorns, the scene at the end of the game was much different. Image: Newscom Texas had high hopes when they went into the National Championship Game on January 7. Ultimately, Alabama’s team overcame the Longhorns, and they lost 37-21. Of course the loss was upsetting for the school, but it was also a financial blow. See, they had already had $300,000 worth of clothing printed to celebrate their win. It’s something that most sports teams going into big games do. Texas paid for around 13,000 shirts and 1,000 caps that could be sold for $20 and $22 respectively as soon as the game ended. Instead of that merchandise going to waste, university spokesperson Casey Ellis says that they’ll be packed up and sent to Haiti to help earthquake victims. After all, if you’ve just lost everything and are fighting to survive on the streets, you probably don’t really care if your shirt is accurate. Hell, many of the people who will be receiving the shirts and caps don’t even speak English. The shirts can be used not only to actually wear, but the material can be ripped to make bandages and slings, and they can be sewn together to make blankets or stuff mattresses. The choice to send the clothing there couldn’t have been a hard one. Unless the administrators at Texas want to constantly remind their fans of the loss, sending shirts as far away as possible seems like a good plan. Posted: 09 Feb 2010 06:42 AM PST Now that the pro football season has come to end (shout out to the Saints — Who Dat!), we can concentrate fully on basketball without any needless distractions. There is so much parody in college basketball this season. Every time a new team reaches the number 1 spot in the polls, they get beat. The movement between the top 25 teams has been so fluid that you can’t really figure out who’s got a leg up on who? ![]() Kansas protected the number one spot on Monday with a win against Texas. That’s why when Kansas took over at number 1, I thought, “this is only going to last so long.” But the Jayhawks proved Monday night that they not only have the talent to reach number 1, they have the drive and fight to stay there. Playing against a Jeckle and Hyde Texas team (you never know which one is going to show up), Kansas stepped up big time in order to distinguish themselves from past number 1 ranked teams. They beat the Longhorns decisively down the stretch, hustling and muscling their way to an 80-68 win. As we head into rivalry week, we’ll get a closer look at how many of the top 25 teams match-up with their rival counterparts. While other teams continue to bounce up and down the ranks, one thing is for certain — Kansas is staying put at number 1. The only question is — for how long? Image: Zuma Press Post from: EveryJoe |
PSA Screening Detection: U.S. versus Europe Posted: 09 Feb 2010 06:05 AM PST Detection of prostate cancer using PSA blood levels (prostate specific antigen) is significantly lower in the United States than in Europe, say researchers. Prostate cancer screening using the PSA levels is being encouraged to detect early prostate cancer, but who is screened and how often depends on individual physicians or clinics.
The American Urological Association issued new guidelines last year in which they suggest,
Regardless of the guidelines, an article published in the most recent issue of Journal of the National Cancer Institute found that the PSA tests seemed to be less effective in detecting cancer than were the European PSA tests. This discrepancy could be due to a difference in the sensitivity in the tests; the US tests have a lower sensitivity than the European tests. Such test differences could make a drastic impact on many lives. Without early detection, doctors can’t offer earlier, often more effective, methods of fighting the disease. ~~~ Post from: EveryJoe PSA Screening Detection: U.S. versus Europe |
Fallout 3: New Vegas Coming Fall 2010 Posted: 09 Feb 2010 05:25 AM PST I haven’t played Fallout 3 in months – maybe even a year. OK. I don’t think a whole year but it has been so long I can’t remember the last time I Why is this important? Because Fallout 3 was amazing and wonderful and I LOVED it but after a while, I got incredibly bored with it. I also saw the ending of it while watching Tucker play his save and was so damn disappointed in the crap ending that I didn’t see a reason to keep on playing. BUT, now I’ve seen the New Vegas trailer and while I can’t exactly put my finger on why, New Vegas gets me excited about Fallout 3 again. Part of me wonders how they’re going to spin it – there are a lot of possibilities. And then there’s the “War…war never changes.” line with the supposed “bad guy” looking out over a very electrically bright and obviously advanced city and I can’t help but wonder who that guy is with his tattered flag and how is that city so advanced and what kinds of creatures will there be… At this point I have many questions and very few answers. All I know for sure is New Vegas will hit in the Fall of 2010 and will be available for PS3, PC and 360. Images/2K Games Post from: EveryJoe Fallout 3: New Vegas Coming Fall 2010 |
“Bioshock 2” Is Now Available! Posted: 09 Feb 2010 02:48 AM PST The highly anticipated Bioshock 2 was released today and I can imagine that hundreds of copies are flying off the shelves as I type. The original Bioshock was released back in 2007 and they've already got a great-looking follow up to the acclaimed game. The sequel is set about 10 years after the events of the first game and it all unfolds in the underwater city of Rapture. A monster has been kidnapping little girls and you can't exactly let that continue, can you? In order to help them, though, you're going to have to survive which might be easier said than done. Here are some game details:
Honestly, this sounds so good! The multiplayer modes include Free-For-All, and Team Death Match and more and when you're talking about a game like this, it's all about the multiplayer action! images: Amazon Post from: EveryJoe “Bioshock 2” Is Now Available! |
Ellen to Make “American Idol” Debut Tonight Posted: 09 Feb 2010 01:38 AM PST In a season filled with controversy, Ellen DeGeneres will be making her debut as the new judge on American Idol. After Paula Abdul quit, it was a scramble to find someone to fill her seat and considering the fact that Ellen is such a huge fan of the show, I thought it was a good choice.
Of course, there's been all kinds of drama and there have been reports that Ellen is already clashing with fellow judge, Simon Cowell. With viewership down, I'm sure they are hoping she can bring back the ratings and a feud with Simon would definitely help that. Post from: EveryJoe Ellen to Make “American Idol” Debut Tonight |

“The Time Traveler’s Wife” on DVD Posted: 08 Feb 2010 09:17 PM PST It's a week of romantic movies and this is one that your significant other might enjoy. The Time Traveler's Wife is now out on DVD and Blu-ray and it's perfect for Valentine's Day (if you're celebrating, of course). The film stars Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams as star-crossed lovers, of sorts, since he keeps popping in and out of her life since he travels through time. I have to admit that seeing the previews, there were some moments that kinda creeped me out (he goes to see her as a child and looks at her lovingly – ugh). In the movie, artist Clare Abshire (McAdams) "shares a deep emotional bond with Henry De Tamble (Bana), a handsome librarian who travels involuntarily through time. Knowing they can be separated without warning, Clare and Henry treasure the moments they have together, imbuing them with the yearning and passion of two people imprisoned by time…and set free by love." I can't decide whether that plot sounds romantic or just plain sad. I guess I'm going to find out since I will probably be watching this in the next few days.
