Does a New NCAA Rule Target Texas? Posted: 11 Feb 2010 06:58 PM PST The NCAA recently created a new rule about recruiting, and Texas is not happy. They are definitely affected by this rule, but the school has taken it a step further and said that they’ve been “singled out” by the NCAA with this rule. With these new regulations, “publicly designated” coaches-in-waiting now have to follow the same recruiting guidelines as current head coaches. There aren’t many schools who name assistants as the next head coach, but when that happens, these assistants can now only make one off-campus visit to each prospect. Other assistants can make multiple trips. Texas’ Will Muschamp, who is currently the defensive coordinator, has been named the next head coach at Texas, so his traveling is not limited. The only other major program affected by the change is Maryland, who’s offensive coordinator James Franklin has been named to take over for Ralph Friedgen someday. The Longhorns claim that because the rule only affects two schools, they’re being put at an unfair disadvantage. When the NCAA meets in April, they can contest the rule to try to get it changed back. Are they being singled out? Honestly, I don’t think that’s the case. I think that it’s unfortunate that there are schools who named assistants as coaches-in-waiting without knowing that this rule would be implemented. Perhaps a grandfathering clause would make sense? In any case, I think it’s a good rule to have. Why? Well, when a coach-in-waiting recruits, in many cases, he is doing so as a head coach. He’s saying, “by the time you are an upperclassman, I’ll be your coach.” Sometimes, coaches-in-waiting are named many years before the current head coach leaves, and maybe this rule will change the fact that this happens. It might be a bit unfair that the school has one less person to recruit…but it’s better than the much greater unfairness that schools could have their named head coaches recruit in the years leading up to them taking the helm. Do you think the NCAA rule is fair? Post from: EveryJoe Does a New NCAA Rule Target Texas? |
Is Pitino Interested In Coaching The Nets? Posted: 11 Feb 2010 01:44 PM PST We all know how much Rick Pitino loves a challenge. That’s why he has a history of taking over abysmal teams and turning them into perennial basketball powerhouses. He did it with Providence. He did it with Kentucky. And he did it with Louisville. So it doesn’t surprise me that Pitino is supposedly interested in coaching the New Jersey Nets, a team that is in desperate need of a turnaround. ![]() Does Rick Pitino have his eyes on the New Jersey Nets? Pitino doesn’t have the greatest track record in the NBA. Though he did well when he coached the New York Knicks, he failed miserably while coaching the Boston Celtics. College basketball is where he shines the most. But as a motivational speaker, Pitino speaks about leadership, about falling down and getting back up, and about how no situation — no matter how bleak — is impossible. Perhaps it’s that philosophy alone why Pitino sees coaching the Nets as a “great” opportunity. Image: Zuma Press Post from: EveryJoe Is Pitino Interested In Coaching The Nets? |
Male Breast Reduction Popular in U.K. Posted: 11 Feb 2010 12:51 PM PST Man boobs are out in the United Kingdom if male breast reduction rates are any indication. Men in the UK are making breast reduction surgery more popular as it becomes the fastest growing type of plastic surgery in the UK. Despite the economy, the expense of having a breast reduction surgery doesn’t seem to have stood in the The technical name for man boobs is gynecomastia, and in some men, it can be rather noticeable. It can be caused by illness, medication, or aging, but for many men, the enlarged breast tissue is the result of excess weight. The problem is, often this excess tissue doesn’t go away, leaving them with a body that is not what they imagined. The most common procedure for breast reduction in men is liposuction. To perform liposuction, the cosmetic surgeon makes a small incision near the nipple, into which he or she inserts a small tube. With this tube, the excess fatty tissue is vacuumed out. In cases where there is a lot of glandular tissue as well, this may need to be removed. Usually, men have to wear a tight compression garment over the breast area after the procedure so the area may heal properly. Since breast reduction is a surgical procedure, there are risks involved, the most serious being reactions to the general anesthetic. Other problems that could occur include:

Foreclosures Drop, Outlook Remains Grim Posted: 11 Feb 2010 02:05 AM PST While there was some good news in January with regards to foreclosures in the United States, experts warn that the situation is sure to get worse before it gets better. In fact, this good news is being pointed to by some analysts as the calm before the storm. Here’s the good news: From December to January, the number of notices that were related to foreclosure dropped by 10% in the U.S. In December, the number was around 350,000, while January saw approximately 315,000 foreclosure notices. The bad news is that the year-over-year analysis points to a 15% increase from last January. Even worse, experts say there are tons of homes in the foreclosure pipeline. As time passes and banks get more active and more aggressive, the number of foreclosures will continue to rise. The numbers, which were reported by RealtyTrac Inc., say that one in 409 homes received a foreclosure notice in January. The actual number of bank repossessions rose more than 31% from January of 2009. Post from: EveryJoe Foreclosures Drop, Outlook Remains Grim |

Posted: 11 Feb 2010 12:57 AM PST Dante's Inferno came out earlier this week and I've heard a lot of people talking about it. It's based on the classic poem, “The Divine Comedy,” by Dante Alighieri and takes the main character through an epic quest through the Nine Circles of Hell. Players will take on the role of Dante who is on a mission to save his beloved Beatrice from Lucifer's clutches. As a veteran of the Crusades, he's got some skills but we are talking about the bowels of Hell so this is going to be tough! As if the heinous monsters aren't bad enough, Dante has got to face his own sins, a dark family past and, of course, some pretty nasty and unforgivable war crimes. I wonder if Dante will have to trade his soul in exchange for Beatrice's… Dante will be able to wield the power of Death’s Scythe which allows him to combine light attacks with heavy attacks along with jumps and grabs. You'll need all of your skills to make sure you master the moves! You'll also have to master some magic abilities and learn how to tame a creature to help you fend off your enemies. images: Amazon Post from: EveryJoe |
Is Weight Lifting Good for Women? Posted: 10 Feb 2010 11:17 PM PST Women don’t ask if weight lifting is good for them, they just avoid it altogether. They “don’t want to get all big and bulky.” If only they knew how much resistance training can help them in achieving the body they want, they might hit the iron more than men do. If you are a woman with a fear of getting bulky from lifting weights, you should actually go inside the weight room of a busy gym and see what the women who do lift weights really look like. You’ll probably see many lean, toned women with no signs of bulk (from muscle mass) at all lifting weights. The way a woman will get bulky from lifting weights is by going with heavy weight for low repetitions, eating a ton of calories, and then for bad measure get little cardio training. Translation: it is very hard for a woman to become bulky from lifting weights. What weight lifting really does for most women is give them a leaner, more athletic, less fatty look – and I’ve never seen a woman look worse from becoming more athletic. The muscled out girls you see in fitness magazines do many extra things to get their “big muscle” physique such as taking supplements, lifting weights constantly, lifting heavy weights, eating very heavy protein, and in some cases taking testosterone or steroids. In short, women who want to improve their body should make resistance training 30 to 40% of their training. The balance will pay huge dividends in achieving your goals. Posted: 10 Feb 2010 10:43 PM PST During a time of year when all of these sappy movies are focusing on the romantic side of love, movies like The Stepfather show what life is like when things go terribly wrong. I don't care who judges me, I'm renting this movie. I wanted to see it when it came out in theaters but I wasn't willing to spend good money on it. It's a DVD movie (oh wait – I got a Blu-ray player for Christmas so…).
In the film, "Michael Harding (Penn Badgley) returns home from military school to find his mother (Sela Ward) happily in love and living with her new boyfriend, David (Dylan Walsh). As the two men get to know each other, Michael becomes more and more suspicious of the man who is always there with a helpful hand." Naturally, the guy is a crazy psycho but because Michael has been in trouble in the past, no one believes him. I don't care how many times I've seen this storyline used, I'm always a sucker for it. I've seen Disturbia at least 10 times – no joke. Looks like I've got my Friday night movie all planned out… Post from: EveryJoe |
