Virus Game

Posted: 12 Jan 2010 07:44 PM PST

Computer-Virus-GameIf your an observant sort then you’ve noticed that I haven’t written in a couple of days.

I know you assumed I went on vacation to a tropical location without internet access and that I was drinking it up in the warm, warm sun while you were freezing your butt off.

And if you assumed that, you would so, so wrong.

Saturday, while I was getting some images for a gaming video I was making for one of my friends [and that I'll share with y'all once it's done], I clicked on an image from the Google Images search I’d done and my browser was hijacked.

It was special.

And by special I mean really damn frustrating. Google “H8SRT Trojan” and you’ll understand what I’m talking about.

But, to really get a feel for what I went through, you should play this game: Virus Game.

The game is so freakin’ unresponsive and annoying that playing it was almost an exact recreation of what I’ve been through.

Have fun!

Lotus Signs a Driver

Lotus has signed Heikki Kovalainen to team with Jarno Trulli

Lotus has signed Heikki Kovalainen to team with Jarno Trulli

Four new teams coming onto the Formula One scene means drivers are going to be moving from established teams to compete for these four new teams. It should be pretty easy for the four new teams to find experienced drivers to race but it might be an opportunity for a few young drivers to race in Formula One, if they can catch the eye of one of these teams.

Experienced drivers are going to be the thing the teams are looking for first and they'll be looking to make the drivers they have in mind an offer they can't resist. Lotus recently announced they had made an offer to Heikki Kovalainen and he had agreed to drive a race car for them in 2010.

This isn't really a surprise as Heikki has languished in the shadow of Lewis Hamilton during his tenure at McLaren. Last year he failed to get the most out of the MP-24 for two years in a row and finally came in twelfth, twenty seven points in rears of his team mate, after a tough season behind the wheel.
This opportunity could turn out to be the trick Heikki needs to give him the chance to really show what he can do on a Formula One track. Bigger doesn't always mean better and moving from McLaren to Lotus may be just the thing to move Kovalainen into the big time.

We won't lie. It will be tough at first for all of the new teams to compete against the established teams. The established teams just have too much of a head start and it will take awhile for them to get use to life in Formula One.

You never know what will happen once they get comfortable though, things could get real interesting if one of them manages to keep up with the big boys on the track this year and give them a bit of a scare.

The move does come at a good time for Kovalainen, considering the changes at McLaren you never know how things might have ended up and this seems like a great situation for him to enter.

Heikki will be working with team mate Jarno Trulli, who will be in Lotus's other car and will give Lotus a great team of two experienced Formula One drivers. Together they might be a tough team to beat on the track and should provide a nice one-two punch.

When LOST first came out on ABC I didn’t watch it. I’m not sure why, but I just didn’t. Later a friend of mine kept bugging me and bugging me to watch it and he finally sent me a DVD with the first half of the season recorded. My wife and I decided to pop one in one night when everything else good was already off, we ended up staying up till almost 3am catching up on all the episodes. Since that day we’ve been hooked.

Paul McCartney to Marry for the Third Time

Posted: 12 Jan 2010 11:05 AM PST

According to reports Paul McCartney will be getting married next year. The former member of The Beatles is engaged to his girlfriend since 2007, Nancy Shevell.  But, don’t expect to see a grand celebration, rather they will have a low-key ceremony.

Paul married his first wife, Linda in 1969, however she passed away in 1998. He then married model Heather Mills in 2002 but they later separated in 2006.

A source said of Paul’s new flame, “Paul and Nancy’s relationship is rock solid and there’s no mad hurry for a wedding. Next year has certainly been mentioned as the most likely time, but neither of them want some big hoo-ha (fuss). It’s almost certainly going to be done very discreetly over in the U.S. and Paul would ideally like to do it without any publicity beforehand. Whether he could pull that off is another matter.”

Congratulations to Paul! Hopefully he and Nancy are happy!

Watching TV Can Shorten Your Life Span?

Posted: 12 Jan 2010 10:07 AM PST

Sure, it’s no surprise that sitting around the house and watching TV all day isn’t the best thing for your body, but can it really shorten your life? Remote

According to an Australian study, it very well can. Research conducted by the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute showed that every hour you sit in front of the television increases the risk of early death by cardiovascular disease.

A researcher states, “Compared with people who watched less than two hours of television daily, those who watched more than four hours a day had a 46 percent higher risk of death from all causes and an 80 percent increased risk for CVD-related death.”

With every hour spent in front of the TV, there is an 11 percent increased risk of death from all causes, 9 percent higher risk of cancer death, and an 18 percent risk of a CVD related death.

So, while it’s fun to catch 24 hour marathons of 24, it’s really better just to spread it out and not spend out whole surfing the channels – no matter how hard it might be!

Dropping Credit Debt: Due to Charge Offs?

Posted: 12 Jan 2010 10:05 AM PST

We’ve been seeing a lot lately about how revolving debt, such as credit card debt, is on the decline. Many consumers are interested in recovering from their debt, and the current economic climate has prompted many to begin digging out of debt, as well as avoid getting into additional debt. However, it may not just be consumers’ doing that the debt rate is shrinking right now.

57493995Credit card issuers themselves have tightened standards, and so there is less debt being issued in general. On top of that, it is quite possible that charge offs are playing their role. Here is what CardHub.com points out in a press release I received via email:

"When banks write-off the losses on accounts that have defaulted or been charged-off, that debt no longer appears as revolving debt, and therefore is not included in the data the Fed uses to assemble its monthly report," said Odysseas Papadimitriou, CEO & Founder of CardHub.com and personal finance expert. "There is a tremendous amount of bad debt circulating around, and one must always keep that in mind when examining seemingly positive trends relative to the credit card market."

It is worth considering this point. Defaults have increased, thanks to difficulty repaying. And once those debts are written off by the banks, they no longer appear on listing of revolving debt. So, while it’s nice that debt is on the decline, and credit card debt specifically is being reduced, it is vital to remember that there may be more at play here than consumers wising up.

Maguire Not Returning to “Spider-Man 4″

Posted: 12 Jan 2010 09:25 AM PST

Unfortunately, you did read that right. The Spider-Man franchise is heading in a whole new direction as the next movie in the series is released.spider man

According to a statement made by Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, the director of the films, Sam Raimi and star Tobey Maguire will not be returning for more films. Instead Sony and Marvel are working on a new Spider-Man film with a script from James Vanderbilt.

They’re going to take Peter Parker back to high school, with a whole new cast and crew. Maguire had some great things to say about working on the movies, “I am so proud of what we accomplished with the ‘Spider-Man’ franchise over the last decade. Beyond the films themselves, I have formed some deep and lasting friendships. I am excited to see the next chapter unfold in this incredible story.”

Raimi also had some nice words, “Working on the ‘Spider-Man’ movies was the experience of a lifetime for me. While we were looking forward to doing a fourth one together, the studio and Marvel have a unique opportunity to take the franchise in a new direction, and I know they will do a terrific job.”

Megan Fox: New Face of Armani

Posted: 12 Jan 2010 09:24 AM PST

In hot chick news, Megan Fox has been named the new face (should that be body?) of Emporio Armani Underwear and Armani Jeans. Some fabulous photos were released from the first advertising campaigns, which were shot on location in Los Angeles by renowned fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

The Armani ads will start rolling out in February on signature billboards in major cities (New York, Los Angeles, London, Milan, Rome, Paris and Tokyo), as well as on the pages of worldwide fashion and lifestyle magazines.

Giorgio Armani said, “Megan is young and sexy and has a lot of spirit. Emporio Armani Underwear and Armani Jeans are all about a youthful attitude making her the perfect choice for the collections.”

“Sexy” is definitely the right word for Megan. And if you are looking at her face, you’ll notice she has a fresh look…not heavy makeup like she often does. And of course, her body looks amazing, as always.

Too Much TV Time May Cut Your Life Short

Posted: 12 Jan 2010 07:49 AM PST

Humans weren’t meant to be sedentary. From the earliest days, men (and women) were working hard to stay alive. Not being able to move, to work, to fend for yourself meant you had no way to survive.

As the centuries passed, human work changed, but still remained very physical. It was only those who worked in the very upper echelons who were able to lie back and take advantage of the largesse and the work of others.

grains de blÈIn the early 20th century, office jobs started becoming more common, but the people who worked them were generally pretty fit still because they had to walk and do physical things. The most sedentary activity there was was reading (if you knew how to read), talk and drink with friends and family, and listen to the radio as the century progressed.

Then came television. At first, it wasn’t that intrusive. After all, you could only get a couple of channels (if you could get a TV, that is). Television watching was often a family event, as everyone gathered about the one set in the house. But even then, there wasn’t much to watch and it was only on at certain times.

Of course, innovations continued, more channels became available, more TVs were bought for homes and suddenly, TV watching was a more solitary event. And if it you weren’t watching TV alone, chances are, whomever you were watching it with was also staring straight ahead at the screen, with little interaction between you.

Routines in families became dinner and television after work or school. Or, in many families, dinner and television at the same time. Homework was done in front of the TV, everything was centered around that box.

zappAnd now, in the 21st century, it’s worse. It seems as everyone has their own television and if they’re not watching TV in their room by themselves, they’re watching something on their computer screen. Hundreds of channels are accessible 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Chances are, anything you want to watch is on when you want to watch it.

The thing is – what happened to moderation? Television isn’t inherently bad. TVs, unless they fall on you, can’t hurt you. But your TV watching habits can and do. In fact, watching too much television cuts your life shorter than those who don’t watch as much, say researchers who studied 8,800 adults and their daily television watching habits.

According to statistics cited by the researchers, average daily television watching is approximately three hours in Australia and the United Kingdom, and up to eight hours in the United States, where two-thirds of all adults are either overweight or obese.

The results of the study, published in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association, indicated that with each hour of TV watching, there was:

  • an 11% increased risk of death from all causes
  • a 9% increased risk of cancer death
  • an 18% increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD)-related death.

Compared with people who watched less than two hours of television daily, those who watched more than four hours a day had a 46 percent higher risk of death from all causes and an 80 percent increased risk for CVD-related death.

Also worth noting, TV watching isn’t the only sedentary activity that people do these days. No matter how hard you work when you’re sitting at your desk, the point is you are still sitting at your desk. So, if you are sedentary at work all day and then sit and watch television all evening and/or weekend, it looks like you’re just setting yourself up for some major health issues.

The solution?

Get up and move around. Cut down on television time. It’s quite simple, if you think about it.
