Naughty Bear – Cuddly Gratuitous Violence Posted: 14 Jan 2010 07:31 PM PST
In fact, if 505 Games sent me a review copy, I’m still not sure I would play it. First off, it’s just not my cup of fluff tea. While I definitely don’t shy away from a good ass kicking – that would be me kicking someone else’s ass – I’m just not into beating the everloving hell out of a stuffed bear. And NO, I’m not going all mom on you but I do have a one year old and a three year old who would be pretty much scared for life if they saw a cuddly teddy bear going ape shit on another stuffed bear and you know, I just don’t need that kind of stress. I know I’m supposed to LOVE this game and I’m not supposed to be able to wait until it comes out but I couldn’t care less. Now, all that being said, of course that doesn’t mean that I’m not going to post some screenshots and trailers for you. Just cause I don’t want to play it doesn’t mean that y’all don’t want to. Aoyama Rides in Premier Class in 2010 Posted: 14 Jan 2010 06:51 PM PST The 2010 MotoGP Premier Class will have another world champion riding in the pack next year as 2009 250cc MotoGP World Champion Hiroshi Aoyama will race on a premier class sportbike in 2010. Aoyama has had a steady rise through the racing ranks since his first appearance in a world championship level motorcycle grand prix in 2000, when he first got noticed with an eighth place finish racing as a wildcard in the Pacific Grand Prix at Motegi.
![]() Hiroshi Aoyama just wants to race and have fun During the years from 2001 to 2003 Aoyama appeared in his home Grand Prix at Suzuka as a wildcard entry, where he was able to stand on the podium once during the 2003 event. He also won the Japanese national 250cc title in 2003. These years were learning years for Aoyama and he was able to learn valuable lessons that paid off with his first MotoGP World Championship in 2009. They would set him up for his first full year of racing in the fastest sport on two wheels. Aoyama’s first complete season as a MotoGP racer was in 2004 aboard a Honda and it was a successful first year for Aoyama. By the end of the season he finished in sixth place and stood on the podium twice. In 2005 Aoyama showed he had learned important lessons in 2004 by improving his final standings at the end of the year to fourth place. He captured his first World Championship Grand Prix win in this year and stood upon the podium an additional three times. In 2006 Aoyama made the switch to a KTM, but still managed to have a pretty good year, despite the change, with a fourth place finish at the end of the year. He won two more races in 2005, in Turkey and Japan, for KTM, the Australian manufacturer's first win in the 250cc class. In 2007 and 2008 Aoyama failed to improve as he had done in previous years, but this could just be the sophomore jinx that many athletes experience. It’s difficult to live on the edge for years on end and you're going to have slowdowns in intensity. He finished sixth in 2007 and seventh in 2008 in the 250cc class. Aoyama decided to switch back to a Honda motorcycle for 2009 and it paid off with his first MotoGP 250cc World Championship. By the end of the 2009 season, he had finished first in four races and stood upon the podium a total of seven times. In 2010, Aoyama will be once again riding a Honda motorcycle, the RC212V, for Interwetten Honda MotoGP. He has looked great so far in testing of the motorcycle in Sepang and Valencia and it will be exciting to see how he does in 2010 on a bigger motorcycle. “Image: Zuma Press” Post from: EveryJoe Aoyama Rides in Premier Class in 2010 |
Posted: 14 Jan 2010 05:30 PM PST Now that the Wildcard games have been decided, it’s time to look at the first round of playoffs. The AFC has some of the strongest teams this year that I’ve seen in a long time, and with surprises like the red hot Jets, who knows what will happen. We can only speculate. Here are my predictions. NY Jets versus SD Charges Winner: Chargers I’ll admit that choosing the Chargers right now when I’ve just admitted that the Jets are red hot might seem like insanity. Maybe it is. But I believe there are teams that can get red hot and end up burning themselves out. I see that happening with the Jets this year. Quarterback Mark Sanchez is young, talented, and cocky. Didn’t you just want to smack him at the press conference last week? And Rex Ryan’s prediction that the Jets will take it all is a bold one. The combination of these two things make me lean towards San Diego, who has won its last eleven games. The Jets defense will make this a close one, but San Diego will squeak out a win. Baltimore Ravens versus Indianapolis Colts Winner: Colts Many are writing off the Colts right now because of their “rest the starters” mentality toward the end of the season. But while I have the utmost respect for John Harbaugh and what he’s done with the Ravens, I still believe in the professionalism of the Colts. The Colts may make a slower than usual start, but they are winners, and will do what it takes to get to the next level. This game will be close in the first half, with the Colts dominating the second half. Image: Zuma Press Post from: EveryJoe |
Ivan Reitman Returning for “Ghostbusters 3″ Posted: 14 Jan 2010 02:52 PM PST More and more news is emerging about Ghostbusters 3 and it looks like things are falling into place after it’s been about 21 years since the last movie came out. Filmmaker, Ivan Reitman revealed to MTV that he’s on-board for the film and that Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky have been working on a script. Reitman explained, “They have delivered a draft. We are working our way through another draft… good work is being done and all of us have our fingers crossed.” As for whether Sigourney Weaver will be starring in this film as well, “She’s been so busy on ‘Avatar’, I’ve not been able to find her. There’s some very cool things in the new draft, let’s just put it that way,” says Reitman. If things go well, filming will commence some time in earl 2011. Wouldn’t it be great if they could get Sigourney to come back for another Ghostbusters film?! image: Amazon Post from: EveryJoe Ivan Reitman Returning for “Ghostbusters 3″ |
Posted: 14 Jan 2010 02:27 PM PST I love reporting on weird and unusual gadgets, because reality is always stranger than fiction. Take this one, for example. I mean, how exactly does one get funding to manufacture, market, and sell a sound system designed to pump music from your MP3 player into your pregnant belly. Is there really a market big enough to justify this? Nuvo seems to think so. That’s the company behind the Ritmo Advanced Sound System, which is designed for use by pregnant mothers. (The sound system can also be detached and used like an iPod for general music playing purposes.) The idea is that you can bond with your child by sharing your personal music selection with them while still in utero. Nuvo cites scientific research that claims that as early as 17 weeks into pregnancy, your unborn child can listen and react to sounds from outside the womb. You can use it for more than just music, which is a nice touch — you could have other family members like the baby’s father record themselves talking to the baby, and then play the audio through the Ritmo system, because research shows that babies can remember sounds they heard while still in mommy’s tummy. (Anyone with a baby knows this is true; every newborn reacts to its mother’s voice.) But I still question the need to spend $150 on a device that hooks speakers up to your belly. What happened to the good old days of just talking to your child by nuzzling up close to mommy’s stomach? Check it out for yourself here. Images: Nuvo. Post from: EveryJoe |
Save Money with CurrentCodes.com Posted: 14 Jan 2010 09:21 AM PST Right now, with New Year’s resolutions revolving around better personal finances and saving money, it is no surprise that people are looking for good deals. And one place to look for the latest deals is with CurrentCodes.com. I spoke to Barry Boone, the CEO, over the phone recently. Here is what he told me about using the web site: “We track coupons and discount codes for more than 2,200 stores, so you can use them to save money from shipping charges to price discounts. You go to the site, and when you get to the shopping cart, you just copy and paste the code from CurrentCodes in the appropriate space.” Boone pointed out that the site is very straightforward, requiring no registration from users, and no advertising banners. “We really just offer this service,” he said. “We don’t charge for the service, or require information from users, and the site is easy to navigate by store.” His company does make money, though. “All we get is a small compensation from some of the stores. We get a commission when people use the coupon codes.” So, if you are looking for a hassle free way to save money on things you would buy anyway, you might try CurrentCodes.com. Blake Griffin Is Out For The Season Posted: 14 Jan 2010 07:19 AM PST Whether it’s a curse or just a streak of coincidental bad luck, one thing is for certain for the Los Angeles Clippers — Blake Griffin’s rookie season is over. The overall number one pick in the 2009 NBA draft was quickly sidelined during a preseason game when he suffered a broken kneecap. The Clippers hoped that Griffin would recover and be back on the court for the second half of his rookie season. But today the team announced that Griffin will have to undergo surgery on Jan. 20th in order to fix his knee. That means the former Oklahoma standout will be out for an additional four months. “It’s a little disappointing, because he brings so much to the table,” Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy said, according to ESPN. “As a group, we’re coming together better all the time, and adding that talent to our lineup was something we were looking forward to.” The Clippers are holding their own without Griffin. Center Chris Kaman is having a productive year, averaging roughly 21 points and 10 rebounds a game. Griffin will have a chance to “relive” his rookie year next season since he hasn’t played a single game. Once he’s recovered from his injury, I think he will fair better than Clipper busts of the past: Danny Manning and Michael Olowokandi. Here are some Blake Griffin highlights from his days at Oklahoma. Perhaps it’s something to look forward to next season: Post from: EveryJoe Blake Griffin Is Out For The Season |
“Transformers: War for Cybertron” Trailer Posted: 14 Jan 2010 07:17 AM PST High Moon Studios is developing Transformers: War for Cybertron for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PC and Nintendo DS and now Activision has released a new trailer for the game. As you might expect, the game follows two distinct storylines. The Autobot campaign follows One thing that is super cool is that players will get to play through team-based online co-operative mode for the first time in the Transformers franchise history. So far, from what I've seen, it looks pretty cool. The graphics are decent and the characters seem to move smoothly. Morphine, Wounded Soldiers, and PTSD Posted: 14 Jan 2010 05:09 AM PST Post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, can strike anyone who has experienced a trauma. The scary thing about PTSD is that you can’t tell if someone will get it and you can’t tell when it will appear because sometimes it may be months or years after the traumatic event. In the battlefield, soldiers are exposed to all sorts of events and sights that could easily cause PTSD, not the least of which is being injured. While we all know that injuries should be treated as quickly as possible and that if it the injury is causing pain, fast pain relief is a must, what we are beginning to learn is that early and effective pain relief with morphine may actually help reduce the risk of post-combat stress. In a study published this wee in the New England Journal of Medicine, researchers wrote,
The researchers came to this conclusion after studying 696 military personnel who had been wounded in Iraq between 2004 and 2006, inclusive. Although the majority of the troops did develop PTSD, there was a significant difference in numbers between those who had been given morphine within one hour of the injury and those who hadn’t. Sixty-one percent of the morphine group developed PTSD, while 76% of those who didn’t have morphine developed PTSD. The extent of the injuries didn’t seem to play a role in the development of PTSD, so researchers are now working on why this effect on stress occurred. ~~~ Image: MorgueFile.com Post from: EveryJoe Morphine, Wounded Soldiers, and PTSD |
