Timbaland “If We Ever Meet Again” Video

Posted: 19 Jan 2010 08:57 PM PST

The music video for Timbaland’s new single “If We Ever Meet Again“  featuring pop singer Katy Perry was released recently. The music video was directed by Paul “Coy” Allen, who worked with Timba on his “Morning After Dark” and “Sayshock value 2 Something” videos.

The single is off of his newest album, “Shock Value 2,” which is in stores now. Before shooting the video, Timbaland said he wanted the concept of the video to be different and for it to have  an interesting story to it.

The music video does have an interesting plot, and follows a man and woman who are working together as burglars. What do you guys think of the song? It’s just alright for me! It almost verges on cheesy.

What Fitness Beginners Need to Know

Posted: 19 Jan 2010 08:02 PM PST

Sometimes I forget how far I’ve come with my own fitness, that is until I start training with the less experienced or brand new beginners.  When I train others, it brings me into a new paradigm of what those with lower fitness levels and less knowledge are going through – the very same struggles that I went through some time ago.

If you are just starting out or are thinking about starting, here a few of the common mistakes I see on all different levels:

  1. A desire to start out fast and begin on a high level.  Fitness isn’t something you can will or think your way into so if you’re not at the point you’d like to be, you have to earn that level (whether this is what weights you want to lift, how fast you want to run, how toned you want to be, whatever).  Attempting to match others or work at a level you know you aren’t at won’t help you.  Start moderately and work independently of your surroundings.  Challenge yourself, but not based on what others are doing.
  2. Slow down on the reps.  Until you’re experienced and ready to go more advanced, stick with simple, smooth reps.
  3. A cynicism in their own abilities.  Challenges and pushing yourself are good when you’re on the verge of taking a step forward.  I’m surprised at how much some people down play their ability or refuse to give something a try even when I encourage it.
  4. Focusing on the finishing rather than how to finish.  A sit-up to me and a sit-up to you can end up being two different things.  You should always focus on doing the exercise right rather than just getting through it.

The Online Gamer Guy Video

Posted: 19 Jan 2010 05:21 PM PST

I watched the first “The Online Gamer” and saw so much of what I regularly hear online during a gaming session that theThe-Online-Gamer-2 video almost wasn’t funny to me.

After you spend twelve two hours listening to fourteen year olds cuss you, it all kind of looses its cool factor.

OK. I’ll admit it. I might have giggled a couple of times at the first video. But this isn’t supposed to be about the first video. This is about the second video.

I never dated a guy like this but I knew guys like this guy. They were never exactly I would call “friends” but they were guys that hung out with our crowd. Always the type who provided a laugh even when they weren’t trying to be funny.

Just watch the video. You’ll laugh. YOU know people like this guy. And hopefully, you aren’t one of them.

You do not want to be THIS guy.

Durant Coming Of Age Earlier Than Expected

Posted: 19 Jan 2010 01:43 PM PST

When Kevin Durant was drafted by the Oklahoma Thunder (formerly the Seattle Supersonics) in 2007, it was implied that the execs were investing in the future of the team. Well, the future has arrived. Durant has come of age faster than most analysts expected.

Kevin Durant is on track to win MVP this season.

Kevin Durant is on track to win MVP this season.

At 6′-9″, he is still relatively thin and gangly by NBA standards, but Durant has all the makings of an MVP. He can shoot, drive the lane, get his teammates involved, and lift the play of everyone else around him. He’s having a dream season, averaging just under 30 points per game. And he’s the main reason why the Thunder are right in the middle of the playoff hunt in the Western Conference.

No one anticipated that Durant would be leading the Thunder to an impressive 23-18 record, especially after going 23-59 last season. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Durant wins the NBA MVP award this season. When he won the Rookie of the Year Award in 2007-2008, it was a definitive clue of things to come.

NASCAR Makes Changes in the Ranks

Posted: 19 Jan 2010 11:54 AM PST

People are always moving from job to job as they rise among the ranks of people working in the racing industry. This week there was a notable change in the upper ranks of NASCAR as candidates to fill the position of Sprint Cup Series director were being interviewed at the NASCAR offices. The word is that the individual picked for this position will be trained by outgoing director John Darby, before he heads up the stairs to fill a managerial role that will let him take a greater hand in the decisions being made.

The Sprint Cup Series will have a new director for 2010

The Sprint Cup Series will have a new director for 2010

The words coming down the rumor mill say that Darby will be heading up the Research and Development Center, but no confirmation of this has been forthcoming. NASCAR has been pretty silent about their plans for many aspects of the 2010 Sprint Cup Series season and we could be in for a few surprises, before the racing starts.

Apparently, Darby is in no hurry to move up the stairs and NASCAR wants to take their time in finding a suitable replacement for Darby, before they appoint him to his new position and make an announcement about what exactly his duties will include. We were able to confirm that he would be overseeing technical aspects of the racing, maybe in all three NASCAR series, which will mean he'll have a very important job.

Darby originally moved into the job as director of the Sprint Cup Series after Gary Nelson departed after the 2001 Sprint Cup Series season. He's highly respected by all in the industry and should fill whatever job they have in mind for him admirably. He was instrumental in helping to rid the series of widespread cheating that hampered the growth of the industry since it first started in 1949, until today. He'll have a tough job that will require the best of him, whatever they put him to work at, and a few years from now we'll be talking about what a great job he did.

Moving to a new job and responsibilities is just a normal part of life in NASCAR if you're working in the industry, because if you aren't going up, you could be on your way down the ladder of success. Still, this is a life changing event for both Darby and whoever moves into his old job.

Before You Purchase Life Insurance…

Posted: 19 Jan 2010 08:58 AM PST

You’ve heard that life insurance isn’t for you — it’s for those you care for. This is true. When you purchase life insurance, you are providing for your survivors. But you don’t want to just get life insurance willy-nilly. Instead, Redeeming Riches suggests four questions you should ask yourself before you purchase life insurance:

  1. What is the purpose? Why are your getting life insurance? Do you want 800px-Metlife_snoopy_two_blimpincome for your partner? To pay off the mortgage and other debt? To pay estate taxes? Figure out what you want the life insurance to accomplish before buying it.
  2. How much do you have already? Figure out how much coverage you have, and whether it is temporary, and when it will run out.
  3. How much do you need? Calculate how much life insurance you are likely to need, based on the purpose of your life insurance, and how much coverage you already have.
  4. What sort of policy should you buy? Depending on your needs, different types of policies (term, universal, whole, etc.) offer different pros and cons, as well as ways to fulfill your needs.

Once you answer these questions, possibly with the help of a financial professional, you can start figuring out just what to do about your life insurance policy.

Before You Purchase Life Insurance…

And Then There Were Four

Posted: 19 Jan 2010 07:05 AM PST

First official round of the playoffs done! Boom! Gone! I went three for four again this week. How will I do this week? Stay tuned. In the meantime, let’s recap this fabulous weekend.

20100117_zaf_e47_437.jpg

Cowboys versus Vikings

Why were so many people actually thinking the Cowboys would dominate the Vikings? Or, for that matter, that the Saints had lost their mojo? I got both the NFC games correct, including the part where I predicted that “the Vikings defense will make Romo look like he's still crying over his breakup with Jessica Simpson.” The Cowboys had shown their defense is good, but it isn’t great. It certainly couldn’t compete with the Vikings, who didn’t even let the Cowboys score a touchdown all day.

Jets versus Chargers

The AFC games were a trickier call (for me at least.) I’ll admit I went with my heart when it came to choosing the Chargers over the Jets. I saw the game as an even matchup, but gave the edge to the Chargers based on the fact that the Jets need to take a penalty lap and come back next year. I simply do not like Rex Ryan’s prediction that his team will take it all, or Mark Sanchez’s swagger. The kid has not been alive long enough to be so darn cocky. Worse than that, his cockiness doesn’t translate to great quarterback stats. There are a lot of analysts today saying that the Jets dominated the Chargers, but with a score and game as close as it was, there’s no truth to it. What’s even funnier is that the Jets odds of winning it all are now 7 to 1. (Those are excellent for a team with a new coach and rookie QB.)

Bottom line is that the Chargers let the Jets get the emotional edge. They played down to the Jets’ level, and then self-destructed with a few costly unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. The Jets didn’t win this game so much as the Chargers lost it. This fact will be key in my predictions for next week’s games.

Colts versus Ravens

This game was all Colts from beginning to end. I had actually envisioned a close game in the first half, but by the second quarter the Ravens fate was already sealed. I hope to see Harbaugh back next year for the playoffs, because he’s a coach with class and smarts.

Cardinals versus Saints

My heart is heavy today knowing that Kurt Warner is considering retirement. He played quite a game this weekend, but the Cardinals were just no match for the dominant Saints. This was the game that we found out Reggie Bush really wasn’t just Kim Kardashian’s boyfriend! He can actually run, too. Somehow, I had forgotten that. (I suspect I’m not alone on that note. Where has he been?)

As I predicted, it was a high scoring game with 59 total points. Will this momentum carry the Saints to another victory over the Vikings?

A New Twist to Lifting Weights

Posted: 18 Jan 2010 11:22 PM PST

You know that your body reacts positively to different workouts and exercises.  A big challenge lies in finding different means of effectively switching things up.  One way to add a new wrinkle is by giving all you have.

In this twist, you throw counting reps out the window and go for 1 or possibly 2 sets of all you can muster.  The objective is to get in a high rep count, building both endurance and strength so don’t pick a weight that exhausts you at 10 to 12 reps.  Instead, you should aim to reach upwards of 25 to 35 reps.  You will struggle to complete the final reps, but don’t sacrifice form.  As soon as you are unable to complete a rep with perfect form, you have reached the end of the set and can stop.

Try going through your normal weight lifting exercises, but only going 1 set until exhaustion for each.

Drew Barrymore at the Golden Globes

Posted: 18 Jan 2010 11:11 PM PST

Of course, there were a lot of hotties at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night, but Drew Barrymore looked especially good in her nude-colored Versace gown. You have to love how innocent she looks here. And her globes looked fantastic … and I don’t mean that award that she had in her hand.

Jennifer Aniston and Halle Berry were also busting out on the red carpet.

Mariah Carey’s globes were on display as well. She’s a bit too much but we can’t really hate on her. If you’ve got it, flaunt it. Mariah definitely does…

Jets Shaun Ellis has a Broken Hand

Posted: 18 Jan 2010 08:55 PM PST

The Cinderella run for the New York Jets continues, broken bones and all. Shaun Ellis, a defensive end for the Jets, has a broken bone in his left hand. Despite the injury, Ellis plans to keep playing.

Against the San Diego Chargers, Ellis says he hurt his hand on the first play. After putting the hand in a cast, the 6-foot-5, 285-pounder was able to return to action. Ellis will need surgery but will wait until New York’s Cinderella run is over.

Jets head coach Rex Ryan also thinks Ellis will be able to play this weekend against the Indianapolis Colts.

Said Ryan: “We’re going to let him think that it’s no big deal. We hope that we can come up with something for him so he can function a little better with it.”

On the season, Ellis had 53 tackles, 6.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. After totaling six tackles against the Cincinnati Bengals, he only had one tackle against the Chargers. But as we later found out, he had a good excuse.
