Will 3-D Television Be In Your Living Room Posted: 20 Jan 2010 09:02 PM PST The talk about 3-D television making it to your living room has been making it into more mainstream discussion lately. My original thoughts were that there was no way the majority of consumers would be interested in sitting in their living rooms wearing glasses to enjoy watching television in 3-D. I experienced something this weekend that has changed my perspective a little bit on the potential success of 3-D television in your living room. I watched "Avatar" in IMAX 3-D and it was perhaps the most immersive 3-D experience I’ve ever enjoyed. The powerful part of the experience was that it didn’t feel forced. It was just there. Now if they can recreate that type of experience in my living room, I might actually be interested in sitting on my couch with a pair of 3-D glasses on and watch a 3-D movie or broadcast. The NFL is talking about doing more 3-D games and the bigger option for 3-D material in the home may be in the form of video games. Thinking about playing some Halo on a 3-D television is intriguing, and the idea of wearing some specs with integrated mic and headphones is even better. What do you think? Will you be purchasing a 3-D television in a couple of years? Do you think you’ll be sitting on your couch with 3-D specs on watching your favorite show or game? Some 360 Exclusivity for Modern Warfare 2 Posted: 20 Jan 2010 08:50 PM PST
Now, that’s not to say PS3 owners won’t eventually get their hands on the maps but that’ll come after a timed 30 day period of 360 players playing the maps until their sticky fingers bleed. Game Rant had a good point about this not being such a big deal since Modern Warfare 2 IS only three months old and if you’re a PS3 or PC player and have run out of things to do with the game as is…well…maybe you should get out more. Exclusivity is a hell of a way to sell more systems if you have a crackerjack of a game coming ONLY to your system but will 30 days of exclusivity on a MAP PACK really help to sell more 360s? I don’t think so. This is just a way for Microsoft to throw its weight around and some considerable weight it has. I also wonder if this isn’t a bit of quid pro quo after Microsoft banned all of those systems and gamer tags of people who were allegedly running illegally obtained Modern Warfare 2 games? Hmm…at any rate, if your happy place is on a 360 then you’ll be getting the maps 30 days before me…but I still love my PS3. Post from: EveryJoe Some 360 Exclusivity for Modern Warfare 2 |
Posted: 20 Jan 2010 08:11 PM PST I finally did it. I contributed my $15 to the $500 billion that’s already been pulled in from the movie. My investment was well worth the $15 I spent to see James Cameron’s latest sci-fi adventure in all its glory with the help of IMAX and 3-D projection. It took me awhile to finally get into the theater and enjoy the movie. I went to see it twice and both times it was sold-out in the showing I hoped to view. Continuing to be sold out in a theater where each seat is $15 says quite a bit about the success of a movie. The $500B and awards received also agree. I had just read an article about the technology that James Cameron had developed to bring his movie to reality. The article discussed the “uncanny valley” in working with CGI human-like forms. If the face doesn’t look right, the reality is lost to the viewer. There was no reality lost from my perspective. In fact, I had to keep reminding myself that the majority of everything I was seeing on the screen didn’t exist anywhere other than the hard drive of computers during development. I thought the story was believable but the actors could have been developed a little bit more. However, I understand this movie was more about the visuals than the character development. The visuals didn’t disappoint either. Watching the movie in IMAX and 3-D made the experience almost as completely immersive as you could dream. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, do yourself a favor and go see it. If you have the option of catching the show in IMAX and 3-D, do it! It’s worth it. Post from: EveryJoe |

Mosley vs. Berto Fight Cancelled Posted: 20 Jan 2010 06:25 PM PST For the second time this month, a major boxing match has been cancelled. First, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather shut down their proposed March mega-fight (and we’re still not sure who to blame). That could’ve been the biggest draw of all-time. Now, Andre Berto, with much better reason, has had to cancel his January 30 bout with “Sugar” Shane Mosley. Pacquiao and Mayweather were bickering over blood tests. Berto had to withdraw from his Welterweight Championship Unification fight with Mosley because the catastrophic earthquake that recently struck Haiti (and thus deeply affected his family who resides there) left him physically and emotionally unable to prepare. ![]() Shane Mosley vs. Andre Berto Cancelled / Image: Zuma Press It was too late to find a substitute, so the fight is off. A disappointed “Sugar” Shane said:
This is certainly a huge disappointment to boxing fans. But when you put things into perspective, the fight doesn’t matter. The terrible tragedy that has occurred (and continues to occur) in Haiti is so far beyond this. Click here for information, resources, and ways you can help survivors of the Haiti earthquake. Additionally, you can join Andre Berto in supporting Haitian relief by sporting his new vintage t-shirt. All proceeds will go directly to the American Red Cross to benefit people affected by the January 12 earthquake. Waa… Keith Brooking Cries Over Score Posted: 20 Jan 2010 06:23 PM PST The Vikings pounded the heck out of the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, and all Cowboy Keith Brooking could do was cry about it. Brooking called Brett Favre and coach Brad Childress “classless” for throwing a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to seal the deal when it came to their win. They hammered the Cowboys 34 to 3. After Favre threw an 11-yard touchdown to Visanthe Shiancoe, Brooking went over the Vikings sideline and yelled at Favre and then Childress. I’ve no doubt that Brooking was frustrated, but the reality was they needed a first down, and how many times have we seen a team turn around and make a game of it when the other team is playing conservatively? If Brooking wanted to stop the Vikes from making plays he should have been awake and playing himself. Brooking said he’s looking forward to the next time the two teams meet in the regular season. What? Is he finally going to play then or whine some more? Image: Zuma Press Post from: EveryJoe Waa… Keith Brooking Cries Over Score |
Record Draft for Underclassmen Posted: 20 Jan 2010 05:27 PM PST It’s a record year for the draft already, at least in terms of the number of underclassmen who are declaring. I’m going to call this the “Sam Bradford Scare.” Everyone watched him return to a disastrous season, and even players like Tim Tebow and Colt McCoy didn’t have spectacular years. Now, Bradford was only a sophomore last year, but the fact remains that players watched him have a great season followed by a horrible season, and that’s a really scary proposition when you’re coming off a good year. Of all of the players entering the draft this year, 53 of them are underclassmen. That matches the record high in 2008. Numbers were down last year, when 46 of those who declared were underclassmen. ![]() Sam Bradford, one of the players who will be part of the 2010 draft. Image: Newscom Some of the most notable players who have declared for the draft early include the following:
Bradford did also declare for the draft, and let’s not forget that some of our favorite seniors will be part of the 2010 drafts as well. The NFL actually expected more players to declare because right now, the players union is in negotiations, and that might result in a new rookie wage scale for 2011 and beyond. There’s also the potential for a strike in 2011. I have to say, I’ve never been a fan of early declaration. Yes, there’s the possibility that you’ll get hurt or have a bad senior year, but at the same time, you could be injured or cut as a rookie, and if you don’t have a degree, what will you fall back on? Pedro de la Rossa Signs with BMW Sauber Posted: 20 Jan 2010 11:51 AM PST Formula One is gearing up for the 2010 season that is just around the corner and BMW Sauber has made a more that should give them one part of the puzzle. This week they announced that Pedro de la Rossa will be behind the wheel of their race cars this season and will team with Kamui Kobayashi to give BMW Sauber the one-two punch they hope will give them the results they want this season on the grid. Pedro has had a total of 71 Formula One Grand Prix starts during his career and he should team well with the up and coming Kobayashi, who has shown tremendous promise during his short Formula One career. Pedro also had a stint as a test driver for McLaren for seven years that saw him get an occasional start as a reverse driver, so he has the experience that Kobayashi desperately needs, if he is going to continue to improve.
![]() Kamui Kobayashi has a new team mate Hopefully, Kobayashi can absorb all of the experience and information that Pedro has collected during his career and can make use of it to improve his racing. The combination of an experienced Formula One veteran and a young racer that has shown tremendous ability and promise for the future should be an exciting duo to watch this year. They do need a good car that is competitive and fast to compete and show what they can do on the track and BMW Sauber engineers are currently at work trying to improve the cars for 2010. BMW Sauber has been busy during the time off working on making the cars better and all indications are that they have succeeded, but we'll have to wait for the final results. All of the uncertainty surrounding the financial situation in Formula One has kind of taken the emphasis away from the racers and cars of late. We need to get back to making Formula One as entertaining as possible for the fans, if Formula One is to continue to grow and draw new fans to the sport. The year ahead should be an interesting one with all of the variables involved and the excitement is growing as we approach the beginning of another Formula One season. “Image: Zuma Press” Post from: EveryJoe Pedro de la Rossa Signs with BMW Sauber |
Could Arenas End Up In Orlando? Posted: 20 Jan 2010 11:35 AM PST There is a lot of speculation about where Gilbert Arenas might end up after his legal mumbo jumbo is over with. The Washington Wizards are currently looking to void the rest of Arenas’ contract so they can part amicably and move on. ![]() Gilbert Arenas faces his legal issues while his NBA fate is left uncertain. Arenas has two options. He can walk away from the game and pursue other ventures … or, he can sign with another team. We’ve all seen this before. Even Michael Vick got a second chance. Professional sports teams are always willing to take a chance on a talented player with legal troubles and personal issues, especially the desperate ones. Arenas isn’t walking away from the game. He’ll be back. The only question is, with who? There are rumors circulating that the Orlando Magic are interested. But according to SI.com, general manager Otis Smith denied this claim. My guess is that Arenas will end up with a team eventually. But it will be for much less than he was making with the Wizards. Perhaps this is the incident that needed to happen in order for him to change his ways. If Vick can do it, anyone can. Even Captain Zero.
