How Many Days a Week Should You Workout?

Posted: 29 Jan 2010 08:50 PM PST

You could workout safely 7 out of 7 days a week, but 100% isn’t required to achieve.  If you’re trying to make up ground, 5 or 6 days works great.  For those looking to steadily add to their accomplishments, 4 days is the perfect balance.  For 3 workouts a week, you’re usually just trying to maintain health and keep the weight off.  Any less and you should be having an off week.  2 or less won’t be enough to achieve but it’s certainly better than nothing.

If you fall within the 3-7 range, remember that your intensity is the biggest contributor to success.  When you combine both consistency and intensity, you create an extremely powerful combination capable of churning huge gains.

I recommend aiming for all seven days a week so that if you can, you end up in the gym every day of the week.  When stuff comes up (and it will), take the day off and chalk it up to rest.  This should result in 5-6 workouts per week on average.  Keep up the intensity and your results will go through the roof.

Change is Normal for NASCAR!

Posted: 29 Jan 2010 08:04 PM PST

The magical musical car ride has started in NASCAR again and this year lots of drivers are moving around to different teams than they were racing for last year and others have decided to stay put. Change is a way of life in NASCAR and the Sprint Cup Series is known for drivers that move around both during the season, after and before. We’ll take you through a few of the changes, but for the rest, check out Speedweeks 2010 opening at Daytona International Speedway on February 4th.

Change is happening in NASCAR

Change is happening in NASCAR

Jamie McMurray is excited this year about his return to Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, for who he drove in 2005. They had a great relationship that saw Jamie contend during the Chase a few times, so they are probably hoping to reignite some of the old magic. It will be tough to compete against Jimmie and Mark, once again, but he’ll certainly give it his best try. It would be nice to see Jamie reach the level of success we all know he’s capable of, but the Sprint Cup Series is one of the most competitive racing series in the world.

Martin Truex Jr. wasn’t happy with his 2009 and has decided a change in teams in necessary, if only for a fresh breathe of air. This year Martin will be behind the wheel of a Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota and he’ll be working with crew chief Pat Tryson. These two gentlemen are well known for being two of the best in the business and if they’re able to make the combination work, we could be seeing the duo having a lot of success on the track in 2010.

Bob Jenkins has decided to make a big investment in 2010 by fielding three teams that will race at every venue and Front Row will be racing in a Ford car on the track this year. This will be different to see as he has raced in a Chevrolet or Dodge for a number of years, but maybe he felt a change was necessary, for some reason.

Travis Kvapil will be the lead driver for FRM’s. Plans call for him to be behind the wheel of the No. 34 car most of the time, but he’ll be moving around from car to car through the year. Travis is a former World Camping Truck Series Champion and has the resume and skill to compete with anybody on the track, so it should be exciting to see what happens with him on the track.

These are only a few of the many changes happening before the start of the 2010 NASCAR season. There are a lot more that we didn’t have time to talk about that you can find out about on February 4th, during Speedweeks 2010 opening.

“Sex and the City 3” Not Happening

Posted: 29 Jan 2010 07:56 PM PST

Recent rumors have been circulating that a third installment of the Sex and the City movies was on its way, despite the fact that the second movie hasn't even been released in theatres yet. sex and the city

The rumor was started when a supposed insider told the UK's The Sun, "It’s under wraps for publicity reasons. It makes sense to film the second and third movies back-to-back… They’re keen to look as young as possible because that movie will be their last."

However, it looks as though the rumors that Samantha, Miranda, Charlotte and Carrie would be returning a third time, are false. A representative for New Line Cinema simply told Us magazine, "This is not true."

Sex and the City 2 will be released on May 28th, 2919.

toyota-logoToyota is scrambling to maintain their image of safety in the auto industry this week. Rumors abounded that the accelorators installed on most of their cars were faulty and could potentially cause problems. Safety inspectors have said that the gas peddles could potentially get stuck and cause the driver to lose control of their vehicle. No incidents had occured but it wasn’t until Toyota executives discussed the issue before they decided to enforce the massive recall.

Many believe that this was no more than a publicity stunt aimed at proving that Toyota would stop at nothing to deliver safe reliable vehilcles. Well, in an industry that has suffered financially Toyota is finding new more creative ways to stay afloat.

New Vehicles With Poor Safety Records

Posted: 29 Jan 2010 03:23 PM PST

It's the beginning of the year and I know a lot of people are thinking about trading in their vehicle for a new one.  It's the start of a new decade so who wouldn't feel cool saying that they've got a new 2010 model?

If you're in the market for something new, you might want to check out the list that Forbes.com compiled of the most dangerous vehicles of 2010.  Here's a quick rundown of the models that made the naughty list:

  1. Chevrolet Aveo
  2. Chrysler PT Cruiser
  3. Mitsubishi Galant
  4. Mercury Grand Marquis
  5. Cadillac STS
  6. Jeep Wrangler 2-Door
  7. Jeep Wrangler 4-Door
  8. Nissan Titan

Talk about striking out!  When I saw the two-door Wrangler on the list I didn't think anything of it but the four-door model wasn't really any better.  I guess they've got some work to do!

The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards are almost upon us and we've got a lot to look forward to. There are great performers and presenters scheduled and the competition is fierce. If that weren't enough to entice you to watch, then maybe this next bit of news is.

NBA All-Star Game Snubs

Posted: 29 Jan 2010 02:11 PM PST

Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports wrote a great article about this year’s NBA All-Star game snubs. While I can’t take credit for coming up with the list, I can agree with it completely.

Allen Iverson and  Tracy McGrady (among others) got a free pass this year for basically being popular players with the fans. Their selection to the All-Star game was obviously not based on performance. Meanwhile, players like Chauncey Billups, David Lee, Monta Ellis, Josh Smith and Chris Kaman are all having brilliant years. Yet each of them were rudely snubbed by the voters.

Chris Kaman is having an All-Star kind of season, yet he was snubbed by the voters.

Chris Kaman is having an All-Star kind of season, yet he was snubbed by the voters.

Sure, Kaman isn’t a “sexy” All-Star, but he’s the main reason why the L.A. Clippers are still in the playoff hunt.

What does this say about the All-Star teams? Are they based on skill and performance, or are they based on popularity and bravado? It’s like a high school presidential election. The popular kid gets the job, while the kid who would actually do the job well gets tossed to the side.

I’m all for changing the All-Star voting system. It’s time to give the real NBA All-Stars a chance to shine.

Kurt Warner Retires

Posted: 29 Jan 2010 01:55 PM PST

Fox sports has just broke the news that Kurt Warner has retired from football. Warner most recently led the Arizona Cardinals to the playoffs, beating the Green Bay Packers in one of the most highest scoring games ever.

He’s the got the stats to be a hall of famer, as Fox pointed out, “In a comparison with the 14 quarterbacks to make the Hall of Fame in the last 25 years, Warner has a better career completion percentage, yards per pass attempt and yards per game.” But it’s his personal story which makes his career in the NFL truly remarkable. He didn’t start in the league until he was 28, after playing in the arena league and working at a grocery store.

More than that, however, he is genuinely one of the nicest guys around. His Christian faith gives him a sincerity and humbleness that is so rare in sports. He’s sure to continue being an emotional leader for his league, even now that he’s retired.

Ken Green Suffers Another Tragedy

Posted: 29 Jan 2010 12:00 PM PST

Back in June, golfer Ken Green’s life was changed forever when he was involved in a RV accident. His brother and girlfriend were killed, while Green had the lower portion of his right leg amputated. Earlier this week, tragedy struck again when Green’s son, Hunter Green, was found deceased in his dorm at SMU.

The 21-year-old student had battled health problems and police don’t suspect foul play.

On his blog, Ken Green talked about his son’s death.

Said Green: “Well, today is another sad day.  I'm sorry to say that my youngest son Hunter has passed. His journey in life has ended and i can't tell you how difficult understanding this is.”

On the PGA tour, Green won five times. His most recent win was in April of 1989 when he won the KMart Greater Greensboro Open. He played on the Champions Tour in 2009 prior to his accident and made in excess of $120,000 in the 11 tournaments he played in.

Despite the fact Green lost part of his right leg, he has vowed to return to the sport of golf.
