Posted: 23 Jan 2010 07:54 PM PST The East-West Shrine Game is always a time for hopefuls to show NFL scouts what they can do. This is more advantageous for players who don’t come from large schools and who didn’t get a lot of media time during the regular season. Today, some players took advantage of that opportunity, while others fell a bit flat. ![]() Mike Kafka, Image: Newscom The Shrine Game pits players from Eastern schools against players from Western schools, and today, the East came out on top, thanks to former Northwestern quarterback Mike Kafka. With just six seconds left on the clock he through a pass to Penn State’s Andrew Quarless to win the game 13 – 10. Both players had a great game, as did Max Hall of BYU and Van Eskridge of East Carolina. There will be more chances for players to show off their skills for NFL scouts, so even those who didn’t do so hot today have time before the draft to prove their worth. It’s always nice to see some of the “unknowns” of the college football world shine, though – some of them may very well go on to be stars as pros. Post from: EveryJoe |
Tetris is the Best Selling Mobile Game EVAH Posted: 23 Jan 2010 06:58 PM PST Tetris has been named the best selling mobile game in the entire history of mobile gaming and I think that freakin’ rocks. Yay Tetris! Thinking back, I’m pretty sure Tetris was the first game I ever played. Probably on one of my cousin’s Gameboys. I never had a Gameboy but I can specifically remember leaning toward the car window to try and catch some bit of light since it was at night when I was playing the game and those damn Gameboys weren’t back lit. Remember that? I mean, think way back since that was a while ago and you’ve soaked your memory with those things that clipped on to the Gameboys so you could play at night in a dark room – I should look up what those were called. You know what I”m talking about, right? Anyway, EA Mobile announced that Tetris has had over 100 million paid downloads on mobile phones since 2005 and for that, Tetris wins the gold star for providing millions and millions of people a device with which to procrastinate. Go, Tetris! Image/EA Lead/Game Informer Post from: EveryJoe Tetris is the Best Selling Mobile Game EVAH |

Hendrick Motorsport Ready to Race Posted: 23 Jan 2010 10:46 AM PST Dale Earnhardt will be out on the track again for 2010 trying to live his dream of a NASCAR championship as he plays with the boys on the track. His team mate Mark Martin sits across the race shop from and with these two in the garage and on the track, Hendrick Motorsport goes forward into another season.
![]() Hendrick Motorsport is ready to race! These two perrenial winners did a great job on the track in 2009 and in 2010 they’ll be looking to improve on the performance of the team in 2009. There have been a few changes of note in the Hendrick’s team, with Earnhardt’s cousin Tony Eury Jr. being replaced as crew chief this year by Lance McGrew. Apparently, Lance is only going to be a temporary crew chief until they find someone to take the spot permanently, but were sure he’ll do a fine job until they find a permanent replacement for Tony. We haven’t heard why Tony has decided to leave the team, but we hope him well where ever he ends up and hopefully, he finds away to live his dreams. Lance McGrew has the experience to the the job as crew chief and should do fine in the meantime. Tony has been quiet about where he’s going and what his plans are, but we’re sure whatever he is planning on doing he’ll be successful in his endeavours. Hendrick Motorsports made progress last year in their race to become NASCAR’s champion, but they still have lots of work to do this year, if they’re to compete and have a chance to win it all. If they can stay in the running until the end of the year and the start of the Chase, they have as good a chance of finishing strong and winning the championship as the next team. Mark Martin had his usual runner-up year, unfortunately for him, but being the second best driver on the track has its benefits. If he can manage to push a little harder at the end of the year, he could bring him his first championship in 2010. He needs to stay focused on his own car and racing, and not focus on what Jimmie Johnson is doing and he’ll have a better chance of beating Jimmie. Come on out and watch Hendrick Motorsports and the team next year on the tracks of NASCAR and you’ll get to see one of the fastest and most entertaining forms of sports in the world. The energy and feeling of the crowds at a race are electric and fill you with the desire to see more races once you have been to your first competiton. The year will be starting in a short time and if you miss your chance to watch the boys race, you’ll regret it forever. I’ll be looking for you in the stands and at the parties after the race, and we can talk about the greatest sport in the world, NASCAR! “Image: Zuma Press” Post from: EveryJoe Hendrick Motorsport Ready to Race |
Cast Change for “Pirates of the Caribbean 4” Posted: 23 Jan 2010 09:06 AM PST Similarly to Spiderman 4, the fourth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean films will be getting a new cast. While the main actor, Johnny Depp will reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow, his co-stars Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom will not be returning for the fourth film. The new movie is called, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The movie is loosely based on Tim Powers' book, On Stranger Tides. Co-writer of the Pirates films, Ted Elliott says, “We wanted to do a story about Blackbeard and the Fountain of Youth, and Tim Powers wrote a book about Blackbeard and the Fountain of Youth… it just turns out that to do that story you would need that book.” The director of the first three movies, Gore Verbinski will not be directing the newest movie. instead Rob Marshall who directed the new film Nine, will be stepping in. However, one of the few people returning for the film is Geoffrey Rush who plays Barbossa. In an interview recently, Keira said of starring in the films, “It was a completely fantastic experience, and it was an amazingly large portion of my life, but I don’t think I need to go there again. I think that it’s done.” You can expect to see the new movie in theatres on May 20th, 2011. You certainly can't blame Keira and Orlando for not wanting to come back. There is a point where enough is enough… Image: Amazon Post from: EveryJoe Cast Change for “Pirates of the Caribbean 4” |
The Lottery is NOT a Retirement Plan Posted: 23 Jan 2010 06:23 AM PST With stock market’s recent troubles (although it is on the way to recovery now), and with so many people concerned about their retirement portfolios, it can be tempting to give in to panic. However, it is important to remember that investing is still one of the best ways to grow a retirement portfolio. The markets will eventually recover (and eventually cycle down again), and chances are that you will be okay — if you have been following a plan with a well-balanced portfolio. Just remember that the lottery is not a retirement plan. No matter the cynical observations about the stock market, the lottery really is gambling, and you are not very likely to make it big. You’d be better off, putting the money you spend on lotto tickets into some sort of investment account. After all, you don’t earn a return when you buy a lottery ticket. Posted: 22 Jan 2010 10:45 PM PST Are you looking for a new kind of driving experience. Then test drive the all new 85th Anniversary MG TF. This is the perfect car for taking out on the highway for a lazy Sunday. The true genius behind the design and engineering of the MG is the small but performance enhanced 1.8L 16v 135bhp 4 cylinder DOHC with its 5 speed manual transmission. It may only pack a four cylinder engine but with performance at the forefront of it’s design, this MG can reach speeds of up to 127mph/205kph. Another cool feature on all MG’s is the patented multi-port fuel injection system. This means that the power is better distributed inside of the cylinder chamber. It’s like having a HEMI enveloped into a smaller package. Other performance features on the new MG TF include the fact that it can go from 0-60mph in just 8.4 seconds. Tips to Prevent Sport and Exercise Injuries Posted: 22 Jan 2010 10:28 PM PST Different ways to prevent fitness related injuries 1. Bend your knees when you land after a jump. This has been proven to greatly reduce risk of injury. 2. Drink enough water. Strains and pulled muscles can come from a lack of water. 3. Eat leafy green vegetables and citrus fruits. Injuries heal faster and prevent new injuries from arising. 4. Get your calcium. See #3. 5. Don’t run in wet shoes. Wet shoes have less shock absorption. 6. Balance your strength on both sides of your body. Muscle imbalance is a large source of injuries. 7. Embrace swimming and other low impact exercises. 8. Run on inclines. Your knees take much less pounding on an upward slope. 9. Sit up straight. Weakness is one of the leading causes of back injuries. 10. Strengthen your glutes. A stronger butt takes pressure off the hamstrings from having to overcompensate. ![]() sxc.hu Post from: EveryJoe Tips to Prevent Sport and Exercise Injuries |
