What Would Your Video Game Be About?

Posted: 28 Jan 2010 07:38 PM PST

Whilst putting my poor laptop back together and basically not having the ability to get online, I found myself coming up with all kinds of things toQuestion Mark write about.

Isn’t that how it always work?

One of the things was, if you were tasked with making a video game, what kind of video game would you make?

I thought about this at some length while I was scrubbing my hard drive with a Brillo Pad and have decided I would make a “choose your own adventure” type of game. Similar to what I assume Heavy Rain is going to be like but probably not nearly as dark and scary looking. It would be something the marketers would have a hell of a time selling but it would make me mighty happy.

Maybe asking what “kind” of game is too confining.

How about what would your video game be about?

There. That’s better.

Now, you can have a puzzle game about shooting hookers or a simulation game about shooting hookers. And, you know, you don’t have to just kill hookers. You could kill stuffed bears!

Never mind. That idea’s been taken.

You guys are a pretty smart crowd, I’m sure you can come up with something cool.

Not Backing Up? You Should Have A CrashPlan

Posted: 28 Jan 2010 06:31 PM PST

Are you stupid? I’ll admit it. I’m stupid. How many times have I experience some kind of computer failure where I’ve thought to myself, "Why didn’t I have this stuff backed up".

crashplan-online-backup-service

You would think it wouldn’t take that many times to wish you’d backed up your stuff before you’d learn to start doing it. Not sure how many times it takes though, because I’m still not there.

I’m taking a look at CrashPlan now. It looks pretty nice. I need something to be brainless and to just happen behind the scenes. I used to have that with Microsoft Live OneCare, but since it’s now defunct, I haven’t really found a reliable and suitable replacement.

CrashPlan has two main options with CrashPlan for Home and Office which provides automatic online backup of your files, and they have CrashPlanPro which provides continuous backup for enterprise businesses.

You can take advantage of completely free and daily backups by using another computer or a backup drive as your backup device. To perform online backups at the home and personal use, they have plans that are as low as $5/mnth if you purchase a 3-year plan for up to three computers in your family. Not a bad price at all, and cheaper than Carbonite, Mozy and Amazon S3.

What backup methods do you use? Do you use an app? Online or offline backup methods? Let us know.

Ferrari’s F10 About to be Unchained

Posted: 28 Jan 2010 01:00 PM PST

If you have ever sat behind the wheel of a high performance sports car like a Ferrari, then you might have an idea of how Fernando Alonso will feel when he once again plays a game with death that almost cost him his life last year by sliding in behind the wheel of a Ferrari’s Formula One offering for 2010, the F10. Fernando Alonso will be getting behind the wheel of a Ferrari race car again on Friday after suffering head trauma during a race last year. He’ll certainly be excited to once again feel the power of a Ferrari beneath him and it might take him a few minutes to once again get a feel for the car, but it won’t take him long before he’s once again screaming around the track like a man possessed. His focus will probably only be eclipsed by his smile, which will surely be shining bright as he takes the F10 around the track for the first time.

Ferrari's F10 is ready to race

The F10 will be the 56th single-seat Formula One race car that Ferrari has fielded during their tenure in the Formula One ranks. Each car is unique in many ways, just as this car will be, and yet each car is built upon the work done using previous models. We’ll get to see how the new Ferrari looks on the track on Friday, weather permitting, and the Formula One industry and fans alike will be holding their breath as the car is unveiled. The crowds that show up will get to take a look at one of the fastest cars on the planet and this is always a thrill for young and old alike. If you’re planning on being near Ferrari’s Fiorano circuit Friday, stop by and have a look at the F10. You won’t be disappointed and you’ll have something you can tell friends about that will thrill them as much as it will thrill you.

The 2010 Formula One season is shaping up to be a year that shows great promise for high entertainment and exciting racing, what with all of the elements that this year has. Michael is back and he’s looking to show the young guns that he still has what it takes to put them in their place behind him. Lotus returns to the Formula One paddock with a history that has written quite a few pages of Formula One history and a desire to write a few more. The United States sees the return of an American-based Formula One team that the hopes of all American Formula One fans will be on to bring back Formula One glory to American soil in the form of a Formula One World Championship, with the arrival of US Formula 1. The 2010 season is going to be a barn burner, if the signs are right, and we’ll be here to bring you all the highlights.

The other teams and cars will be taking their cars through the first tests of the season in coming weeks and we’ll have a better idea of which teams will have cars that can contend and which teams will be in develoment through the year. 2010 is the beginning of the age of the Moto2 World Championship, the newest entry onto the MotoGP World Championship scene. There will be a whole new roster of racers that will compete in Moto2, from all corners of the world. The far reaches of Asia, the familiar countries of Europe, even North America and Australia are represented in the ranks of the riders that will be competing in Moto2. This year the Moto2 is set to replace the 250 cc class that Hiroshi Aoyama ruled in 2009

This week the Pons Racing and Tech3 Moto2 race teams will be out on the track on Valencia taking prototype sportbikes through their paces to see how they react. Axel Pons and Sergio Gadea will be doing the riding for the testing as technicians attempt to tune the bikes and get them ready for the season. The teams have worked all winter on the bikes and this will be the first real test of the work they did. The riders will be chomping at the bit to get on the bikes and take them out on the track to see how they feel, after a long winter wait that’s surely the last thing a sportibike rider wants to be doing. It will be difficult to get them off the bikes once they start testing, since they’ll once again be like a kid in a candy store.

Also out on the track testing their bikes at Valencia this week will be Tech3 Moto2 riders, Raffaele De Rosa and Yuki Takahashi. Apparently, work on their bikes has been progressing really well and the team is currently testing a few radical changes to the bike that they’re hoping will have a big impact on the performance of the bikes. The Tech3 Moto2 team is a little farther along in their work on the bikes, than the Pons Racing team, but this doesn’t mean they have a better bike. In fact, development can go back, rather than forward on a bike, even after years of hard design work, so they never take anything for granted. They’re constantly trying to evolve the bike and the performance ratios and this is a constant battle for the technicians. A racing sportbike is a high performance machine that’s finely tuned and balanced and the smallest element being out of balance can have a major impact on performance of the bike.

The main thing this week will be the weather, which will have to be good for them to get any real work done on the bikes. Hopefully, the sun is shining and the rain clouds stay away and we’ll get to see what the bikes can really do.

Gisele Bündchen Gave Birth in the Bathtub

Posted: 28 Jan 2010 12:04 PM PST

Giving birth in your bathroom, in the bathtub no less, might seem like something that would happen in an emergency birth. You know, like you couldn’t wait to get to the hospital, so you just jumped in the bathtub and out came the baby. But in Gisele Bündchen’s case, she chose to do it that way.

But you know Bündchen, who is married to Patriots QB Tom Brady, probably didn’t have the size bathtub you and I did. I mean, really, it was probably the size of a pool. Oh and by the way, People also reports that just six weeks after having the baby, she’s back to work and “ looking hot as ever.”

Of course she is.

President Obama Focuses on Jobs

Posted: 28 Jan 2010 03:25 AM PST

Last night, President Barack Obama gave his first State of the Union Address. In it, he laid out a plan meant to help kickstart the jobs market. With an economic recovery languishing in large part due to the lack of hiring, President Obama emphasized his commitment to providing a stimulus for workers. One of the main aspects of his plan is to offer tax breaks to companies that employ new workers.59425380

In addition to the focus on jobs, the President used his State of the Union to accept responsibility for some of the mistakes he made during his first year in office, and to express hope for the future. He also unveiled plans for education reform and clean energy technology development, and re-emphasized his push for health care reform and financial regulation reform.

All in all, it was a speech chock full of ideas, and a chance for the President to showcase the fact that he has been trying to listen to the people, and take their concerns to heart. Now, it will be interesting to see whether any of the President’s plans become a reality.

Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas: Shoes

Posted: 28 Jan 2010 02:16 AM PST

aThroughout my years of dating, I’ve tried just about everything to make Valentine’s Day special for the girl in my life (at the time). And each year, the gift-giving process ranges from slightly awkward to totally disastrous. If we haven’t been dating for very long, then I don’t want to overdo it. When it’s a long-term relationship, I realized (after trial and error) that they expect more than dinner and some flowers.

valentino-pumpsHowever in the last few years, I think I figure it out…women want shoes.

Three years ago, I had been dating a girl for about three months when Valentine’s Day rolled around. I debated getting her a relatively inexpensive piece of jewelry. However, I felt like that would be too much. So I bought her a pair of sexy red pumps. I loved them. She love them. And though we broke up two months later, the shoes were a hit.

Last Valentine’s Day, I bought my girl a pair of strappy high heel sandals. They were hot and sexy. Again, I love them. She loved them. And everybody was happy. Most women can’t get enough of shoes. Guys can live with five or six pairs of shoes. Women can’t seem to live with just 50.

If you know her shoe size, head to the mall. Talk to the sales people and figure out what’s trendy. Then go with your gut instinct and pick a pair that you think are hot.

Tony Parker Injured as Spurs Win

Posted: 27 Jan 2010 08:55 PM PST

The San Antonio entered their game Wednesday night with three straight losses, all of which were at home. Taking on the Atlanta Hawks and desperately needing a win, the Spurs indeed were able to get the victory. However, it came with a cost: an injury to starting point guard Tony Parker.

In the third quarter, Parker twisted his ankle on a drive to the basket. He had to be carried off the court and couldn’t put any pressure on his injured ankle. X-rays after the game were negative and Parker’s injury is being called a sprained ankle. The Spurs said they will know a prognosis on Thursday or Friday.

The game against the Hawks was notable for the Spurs for another reason: Tim Duncan set a new career-high in rebounds. For the game, Duncan had 21 points, 27 rebounds and six assists. Though he hit only 5-of-20 shots from the field, he made up for it by nailing all 11 of his free throws.

The Spurs led by as many as 28 points in the first half before the Hawks came roaring back. Atlanta cut it to single digits late but were unable to get over the hump.

The win improved the Spurs to 26-18, while the Hawks fell to 29-15.
