“Jeopardy Platinum Edition” Out This Week Posted: 17 Jan 2010 08:50 PM PST I absolutely love the Jeopardy game show. There was a point in my adolescence when I actually watched it twice a day – once to test what I already knew and the second time to see what I had learned from the earlier episode. Yeah, I realize that makes me a super nerd This week, Jeopardy Platinum Edition is being released for PC and Mac and I plan to pick up a copy. Here are product details from Amazon.com:
I wonder how long it will take me to work through 5,000 questions! The Jeopardy games tend to be low quality so I'm hoping this will redeem the earlier titles. image: Amazon Post from: EveryJoe “Jeopardy Platinum Edition” Out This Week |
How the Paleolithic Diet Helps Posted: 17 Jan 2010 08:36 PM PST In my last blog about intermittent fasting, I mentioned the timing of the paleolithic diet but left off details. The term paleolithic diet refers to the contents of our stone age ancestors’ diets. The foods in this diet include fish, vegetables, fruits, roots, nuts, and meat. Recent application of the diet would have you run to the gym and workout (the hunt and kill) and then eat afterwords (the reward). There are many benefits to the so called “Cave Man” diet. First, many of the refined ingredients and processed food of today’s diet are excluded. Second, vegetables are an integral aspect of the diet and many of us today fail to get enough leafy vegetables. Third, the diet has ample protein (not a current problem, but go for those who exercise regularly). Furthermore, the diet is devoid of simple carbs. The only problems I see are the lack of milk/calcium and the high fat contents. However, you could always add milk to the diet and lower the amount of meat you eat and substitute low fat meat when possible. The main difference you’re going to see with the Stone Age diet is a return to organic eating and that’s a great thing. The results will be more energy and reduced fat composition in the body. This is going to spur better workouts and a leaner body when you regularly exercise. ![]() sxc.hu Post from: EveryJoe How the Paleolithic Diet Helps |
Adam Lambert’s “Wataya Want From Me” Video Posted: 17 Jan 2010 03:34 PM PST Recently, the music video for Adam Lambert’s single “Whataya Want From Me” was leaked over the internet. The song is off of his debut album, For Your Entertainment. Though Adam is totally rocking the song, it was actually an unreleased track from Pink’s Funhouse album. Who would have though?t! Glambert took to Twitter after the video leaked, saying, “So it leaked. Oh well :) big old watermark in middle of frame though. Will be on VH1, MTV etc tomorrow and on my website on Monday. :).” What do you think of the song and video? I’m liking both! It’s great to see that Adam is moving on past his American Idol days and is making a name for himself – even if it means sparking up a bit of controversy every now and then. After 5 Years, Alan Wake Better Rock Posted: 17 Jan 2010 12:38 PM PST Who says that writers can’t have a good time? If you’re talking about Alan Wake then you must have no idea what you’re talking about. Then again, most people’s idea of a good time isn’t going on a search for your fiance after she mysteriously disappears. From the studio that brought you the Max Payne series comes Alan Wake, “a psychological action thriller”. The main character [His name happens to be Alan Wake. I know. You're shocked.] is a best-selling suspense author who’s going through a bout of writer’s block and decides to head to a small town to cure what ails him. Now, if that’s all this game was about then you’d probably not buy it and if you did, chances are good you’d fall asleep in front of your computer. But of course, that’s not the whole story and along the way, Wake’s fiance comes up missing and, of course, Wake has to go find her. From the fact sheet I read, Alan Wake looks to be an open world game and as the fact sheet puts it, Alan Wake is an “expansive cinematic world that enables players to explore the hyper-realistic and interactive environments”. The game’s been in development since ‘05 and after five years of development I think you’d be safe to set the proverbial bar pretty high in terms of expectations. Though Alan Wake isn’t being released on the PS3 [*sob*] it is being released on the PC and will also be available on the Xbox360. Expect to finally get your hands on Alan Wake in June of 2010. Posted: 17 Jan 2010 12:34 PM PST The traditional Bloody Mary gets a new twist by using Finlandia Lime Fusion vodka. Serve up a batch of these tomato juice cocktails at your get together. It’s also a fabulous choice the morning after a night of drinking when you are trying to stave off a hangover. The spicy flavor of this drink blends perfectly with the lime-flavored vodka.

Female Perspectives on Relationships Posted: 17 Jan 2010 12:20 PM PST Today, let’s look at some of the articles and blog posts around the web about relationships and dating from the female perspective. Cherie at Blisstree talks about online dating and poses the question, “Is Online Dating for the Desperate?”. Though years ago, online daters might have been viewed as geeky, desperate people who couldn’t get a date in “real” life, things have definitely changed. Cherie also discusses Valentine’s Day — a dreaded holiday for many men and women, whether they are dating someone special or not. Brie at SheKnows.com talks about Viagra for women, while Tiernan talks about The Tiger Woods Effect. Has Tiger Woods caused women to become even more suspicious of their partners? The most interesting of these was the article about Tiger. Just because Tiger Woods cheated (and cheated and cheated) on his wife, other women shouldn’t become more worried about their own men. If a man is going to cheat on you, there’s not much you can do about it. He’s either unhappy in your relationship, a self-centered asshole who wants to have his cake and eat it too, or both. Certainly a woman shouldn’t hide her head in the sand about their partner’s infidelity, but Tiger’s story doesn’t mean that more men are cheating these days. Trust your instincts about your man, look for the obvious signs, but don’t make a good man’s life miserable by accusing him of things that aren’t true just because of Tiger Woods. ![]() Image: Zuma Press Post from: EveryJoe Female Perspectives on Relationships |
Prostate Cancer, Diabetes, Race and Weight Posted: 17 Jan 2010 11:23 AM PST This sounds like a trick question, doesn’t it? What do prostate cancer, diabetes, race, and weight all have in common? Interestingly, there is a connection. Men who have had diabetes for a few years tend to have a lower risk of developing prostate cancer, according to a 2005 study, Diabetes and Risk of Prostate Cancer in a Prospective Cohort of US Men. In a study published in the most recent issue of Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, researchers studied 1,262 men who were treated for prostate cancer with radical prostatectomy – removal of the prostate gland and some surrounding tissue. The results showed that:
Information such as this is helpful because it can head researchers into a different direction. For example, what is it about diabetes that gives prevention but only after a few years? And what it is it about diabetes that, if you do develop prostate cancer, it is more serious? ~~~ Image: MorgueFile.com Post from: EveryJoe Prostate Cancer, Diabetes, Race and Weight |
TLC Working on New Show For Kate Gosselin Posted: 17 Jan 2010 09:33 AM PST After the last episode of Jon and Kate, Plus Eight aired in November on TLC, it may have been assumed (or even hoped) that this would be the last they would see of Kate Gosselin on their television screen. However, it looks as though more TV arrangements have been planned for the now single mother. On Thursday, Steve Cheskin, head of Programming at TLC, announced to the Television Critics Association that they are developing plans for her very own show on TLC. He reveals, “I can tell you yes we are developing a new show with Kate. We don’t know what show that is going to be.” In December, Kate was spotted with camera crews in a restaurant in Raleigh, North Carolina, which was then confirmed to be related to whatever new project they are working on. Really, another show for Kate? I guess I don’t blame TLC for wanting to cash in on the drama as much as possible, considering the last episode of Jon and Kate brought in roughly 4.3 million viewers. Should Kate be getting another show, and would any of you guys tune in? Image: Zuma Press Post from: EveryJoe TLC Working on New Show For Kate Gosselin |
