Wii Dumbbells With Adjustable Weights Posted: 30 Jan 2010 08:55 PM PST Do you love games like Wii Fit but wish you could make your workouts a little more challenging? If so, you might want to look into the Wii Dumbbells With Adjustable Weights. The accessories were designed to work with the Wii Remote (with or without the Wii MotionPlus adapter) and Nunchuk. The weights are easily adjusted by unscrewing the outer rings to either add or remove weight. At just 1.8 lbs, these dumbbells add just enough resistance to amp up a workout but they aren't too heavy for most people to use and they can be easily stored. The package includes two plastic dumbbell weights and 12 plastic weighted rings. Here are a couple images to give you a better idea of what they look like up close. images: Amazon Post from: EveryJoe Wii Dumbbells With Adjustable Weights |
“Transformers 3” To Have Actual Storyline Posted: 30 Jan 2010 08:47 PM PST I loved the first live-action Transformers film but i really wasn't overly impressed with the sequel. I know that it did well at the box office and some people were satisfied with the movie but I was extremely unhappy. I didn't feel that it did justice to the characters (Optimus Prime was a heartless prick which is soooo wrong) and the plot suffered so that we could be confused by too much metal twisting around on the big screen.
Fortunately, director Michael Bay revealed some promising details. There will be fewer robots on the screen. That's a good thing because, while I enjoy new characters, it was a lot to keep track off and the fight sequences were overwhelming. He explained: “Although the number of robots increased significantly from the first film for the second, the third film — which will hit theaters in summer 2011, won’t be as robot-heavy and there will be fewer explosions.” That MUST mean that we are going to get a meatier storyline. I know she's hot but I wouldn't cry if Megan Fox had a smaller role. I'm all for bringing a new love interest into the fold for Shia LaBoeuf. What do you think? Mardy Gilyard Outplays Tim Tebow Posted: 30 Jan 2010 08:36 PM PST The Senior Bowl is a place for players to shine when gearing up for the NFL draft, and this year’s game has some surprises in store for scouts. This year? The top player was, hands down, Mardy Gilyard, who led the North to their 31-13 victory over the South. Suck on that, SEC. ![]() Mardy Gilyard, Image: Newscom Gilyard was named the offensive player of the game with 103 yards receiving, but wasn’t the only one to have a great day on the field. On the defensive side of things, Brandon Graham was name the MVP and Jamar Chaney was named defensive player of the game. Quarterback Dan LeFevour was the North’s most outstanding player, setting up Gilyard for a touchdown and sneaking the ball into endzone on his own for another. On the South side, Jeremy Williams was named most outstanding player, with six catches for 82 yards. Zac Robinson also had a great night, throwing for 176 yards and one touchdown. Absent from the “great night” lineup? Tim Tebow. He played a few snaps during the first half and was cheered back to the field in the third quarter. His performance, though, was lackluster. He fumbled the ball twice and only had 50 yards in passing and 4 in rushing. Overall, it was very “meh,” proving once again that he may not be as valuable in the NFL as he was in college. Mercedes GP has Deep Formula One Roots Posted: 30 Jan 2010 08:16 PM PST 2010 is going to be a different year for Mercedes who will enter the battle to see which engine is the best without the support of McLaren after taking over the reigns of control of Brawn. Things will certainly stay the same, more than they change, for Mercedes can claim to have fielded a car in the very first car race back in 1894, when cars were first beginning their love affair with Americans. The business of racing isn’t going to change that much for Mercedes, now that they have control of the race team, than it was in the beginning of Formula One. Mercedes has been involved in the life of racing since the beginning and the move to total control of Brawn is just another step in the process of making the fastest race car in the world. ![]() Michael looks confident and ready to rumble Mercedes took part in the shaping of the racing industry after the First World War that grew as cars continued to increase in power and more race venues were opened to entertain fans with a sport that was continuing to grow in popularity. Ironically, the birth of Nazi Germany helped to build the popularity of racing by increasing the knowledge and understanding of race car physics with programs designed to create the fastest race cars in the world. The start of World War II would suspend Formula One racing for a few years and after the war Mercedes had a difficult time getting back on its wheels. This was obviously due to the destruction of the Germany industrial infrastructure and it would be a few years before Mercedes would be able to field a race car. Mercedes returned to Formula One on a full time basis in 1954 with the memorable W196 and Juan Manuel Fangio and Karl Kling behind the wheel. Mercedes started 1954 with both their drivers finishing one-two and Juan Manuel Fangio would continue on to take the 1954 Formula One World Championship for Mercedes. Mercedes would fail to repeat in 1955 though as Mercedes would fall from grace in the eyes of the fans and customers after a tragic accident at the Le Mans 24 hour race involving a Mercedes race car that resulted in the death of 79 fans. This trafic event would actually change racing from that date forward and the development of new safety rules and regulations can be linked to this event. Mercedes would pull back from the eye of the racing fan for 29 years after that, but would make a triumphant return to car racing in 1984. It would be 1994 before Mercedes would return to Formula One, when they began supplying engine for Sauber, and it would be in 1995 that they would form a partnership with McLaren that has written a significant portion of Formula One history. In 2008, after a decade of frustration, Mercedes finally made it to the top of Formula One when Lewis Hamilton won the World Championship, despite Ferrari winning the Constructors’ championship. In 2009 Mercedes changed the face of racing and their history when they began supplying engines for Force India and Brawn, along with McLaren. It was only a short period of time before Mercedes announced that they wished to sell their stake in McLaren and then run Brawn for the 2010 season. They would rename the team Mercedes GP to begin fielding their own race car using the years of experience and experience of the workforce they had assembled over the years. The only thing Mercedes GP needed was an experienced race car driver to lead the battle on the track and who should appear at the door with a confident smile on his face but a man many consider to be the best racer ever to strap on a Formula One helmet, Michael Schumacher. Now, Mercedes has everything they need to compete and maybe even make a run at another Formula One World Championship. Mercedes is ready to lead the charge at another Formula One World Championship and if Michael is able to return to form they could be the team to beat. On the other hand, if Michael isn’t able to get in tune with the car and return to the form of old, it could be along season for all involved. “Image: Zuma Press” Post from: EveryJoe Mercedes GP has Deep Formula One Roots |
Enjoy Reading Kindle Books Sans Kindle Posted: 30 Jan 2010 08:00 PM PST Another Christmas has passed and I’m still not the proud owner of my own Kindle reading device. Of course now there’s also the Barnes and Noble Nook reader and the Apple iPad. Even though I don’t have a Kindle, I can still start adding to my Kindle book collection and even read them on my own PC with the Kindle for PC software. You may not be aware, I wasn’t, that you can pick up a shelf full of free books on the Kindle and enjoy them from your own PC. Here are the titles I grabbed this evening to start my collection:
The Kindle for PC software gives me the majority of the same key features you get in the original Kindle. From a management perspective though, I’d like to be able to list the books in my library in more of a list view if desired. Features like the ability to adjust font size to a larger or smaller size could make this a great addition for elderly individuals that might want to read more from their computer screen. That might be a larger adjustment for them to change their reading methods though. Whenever I do end up getting my Kindle, everything I’ve purchased can immediately be sync’d to the new Kindle without any problems at all. I can’t wait for that day. Take Advantage of Foxit Software PDF Tools Posted: 30 Jan 2010 07:40 PM PST Opening and viewing PDF files is probably nothing too special for most people these days. We open them to read a variety of documents or publications for a wide variety of reasons. My preferred software for reading PDF files is Foxit Software. This weekend I needed to work on replacing something on a major appliance. There were a couple of different pages I needed to reference to get the job down and I didn’t want to have to keep clicking back and forth on the pages to view each ones. I took advantage of the bookmarking feature that allowed me to bookmark each individual page I needed. Then I could have all the bookmarks visible in the sidebar and click on them back and forth as I looked at the different examples and images. To get to the bookmarks tools, just go to the Foxit Reader menu then go to View > Navigation Panels > Bookmarks. Once the panel is open just click on the "Add Bookmark" icon (next to the trash can) and you can bookmark the page that’s currently being viewed. You can even name it something that you’ll remember. The other tool that’s available within the Foxit Reader software is the highlighter. This allows you to highlight sections and content on an individual page, just like you would with a real ink highlighter. Very cool! Post from: EveryJoe Take Advantage of Foxit Software PDF Tools |
Posted: 30 Jan 2010 07:34 PM PST Are you looking for something a little bit different to serve on Valentine’s Day? Check out these delicious cocktails created with Amarula Cream. Amarula Cream is a delectable cream liqueur made from the marula berry that comes with rich African legends. Called many things, the Zulu people refer to the tree as the “Marriage Tree,” because it is a symbol of fertility and is used in a cleansing ritual before marriage. The Marula tree has separate male and female trees, and appropriately so, the marula female tree is one of the most prolific fruit producing-trees in Africa. ![]() Image: Amarula.com Amarula & Eve Ingredients
Method Combine all ingredients in a shaker glass filled with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a coup glass. Garnish with lychee fruit on the rim. Another nickname for the Marula tree is the “Elephant Tree.” Elephants migrate hundreds of miles across southern Africa to get a taste of the sweet, delicious marula berry as it ferments on the ground. And if you want a cocktail that is more indulgent for your sweetheart’s sweet-tooth, create a mouth-watering masterpiece with Amarula’s Pink Elephant cocktail. Pink Elephant Ingredients
Method Combine all ingredients, except cream and sugar, into one shaker and shake. Strain into a Martini glass. In a separate shaker, combine cream and sugar and shake vigorously without ice. Carefully layer the cream on top of the base. Garnish with a raspberry and mint sprig on the rim. For a “campfire” effect, flavor the cream with hickory smoke. Post from: EveryJoe |
Posted: 30 Jan 2010 02:30 PM PST I’m not the biggest Nick Saban fan, but even I can’t say that he’s not a good coach. Alabama thinks so too, and they’re going to show their appreciation with a huge statue of the coach on campus. Overkill much? Maybe, but the school hopes to debut the bronze beauty in April, at the campus’ annal spring game. ![]() Image: Newscom Actually, a bronze statue of the coach makes a little more sense when you consider that they have a “Walk of Champions” area outside of the stadium, featuring all of their national championship winning coaches. Saban’s statue will join statues of Wallace Wade, Frank Thomas, Paul W. "Bear" Bryant, and Gene Stallings. MTM Recognition, the company that produced the original four statues in 2006, will be doing Saban as well, and it will cost the school an estimated $50,000. Saban’s wife, Terry, along with a number of other people who know the man well, will have input into the final design, which will be sculpted in clay. A mold will then by made from the clay version to create the final product. Says the project manager:
You can read more about this new statue at UA from Tuscaloosa News. Post from: EveryJoe |
Posted: 30 Jan 2010 12:10 PM PST I’ve been a fan of Picasa 3 image tool ever since I heard about it and it was initially released. I’ve had Picasa installed on my machines for years, but I continue to find interesting little tools almost every time I open the application. The other day I was trying to update my Facebook profile photo to a picture of me wearing my Indianapolis Colts jersey. I couldn’t remember what folder I put it in when I saved it to my computer and really didn’t want to spend that much time looking through each folder. I decided to fire up Picasa and take advantage of its thumbnail library viewing controls and see if it could help me find that photo. I was digging trhough the menus and stumbled into the Tools > Experimental > Search… > Blue control. What was this? Picasa was smart enough to be able to look through all my photos and find any photo with a general hue of one of the seven different color options available: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple or Black and White. I selected "Blue" and was immediately presented with the photo of me in my Colts jersey that I was looking for. That was just too cool! Post from: EveryJoe |
How About a Pro Bowl Banquet Instead? Posted: 30 Jan 2010 07:30 AM PST Sorry, but does anyone really care about the Pro Bowl this weekend? It was bad enough when they played it the week after the Super Bowl, the week after football ended and no one cared. It was something you watched as a consolation because you knew it was the last bit of football you were going to get in for the next few months. But putting the Pro Bowl before the Super Bowl just seems to underscore the ridiculousness of it. Players getting voted in are the facts that fans care about. We want to know who are the Pro Bowl players on our team and we even want to have a say in it. But we don’t want to watch a meaningless game where players really don’t play their hearts out just because. Couldn’t this honor of voting continue, with a banquet followed by those voted in. That way, we don’t have to waste three hours watching it, the players still get the honors they deserve, no one has to get injured, and the fans can still vote. Heck, the banquet could even be held in a nice warm city like Miami. How about that instead? Anyone with me? Image: Zuma Press Post from: EveryJoe How About a Pro Bowl Banquet Instead? |
