Tiger’s Mistress Jaimee Grubbs Arrested

Posted: 16 Apr 2010 11:50 AM PDT

One of Tiger Woods’ alleged mistresses is in the news again – but this time it’s not about the affair. Jaimee Grubbs was arrested earlier this week in West Hollywood for driving on a suspended license.

Back on Feb. 4 she was cited for the same issue. Apparently Grubbs had a $26,000 warrant for not clearing up the first offense and bail for the Wednesday arrest will be $2,500.

“She’ll have to pay both amounts if she wants to be released,” West Hollywood Sheriff’s Sgt. Shawn Ruda told PEOPLE.

Grubbs is one of the better looking of Tiger Woods’ countless alleged mistresses. Perhaps he’ll be willing to bail her out.

Working for the Feds

Posted: 16 Apr 2010 11:35 AM PDT

Do you want to work for the Feds? I’m not talking about being an informant, becoming an FBI agent or joining the secret service (well, not necessarily.) But the federal government offers an array of interesting jobs.

If you are in the market for a new job and you want job security as well as good compensation, consider applying for federal jobs. You can find an updated list of federal jobs at USAJobs.gov and instructions on how to apply.

Even though they have nearly three million employees, the federal government is always posting new jobs. And with the average compensation from a federal job being more than $100,000 per year, it's no wonder why a lot of people aim to get a job on the federal level.

However, you should be aware of the strict hiring procedures of the federal government. The application process is typically much more complex when applying for federal jobs than in the private sector. Expect to also undergo a detailed background check.

Additionally, be patient when applying for a federal job. These jobs get filled at a notoriously slow rate. While you wait,  you should be employed elsewhere since it can take a few months to hear back. Even when you do hear back, expect to have to complete an extensive interview process.

The good news is that once you get a federal job, you should be set for life. With great compensation and terrific job security, they'll likely be no reason for you to leave!

Back Pain Myths

Posted: 16 Apr 2010 11:04 AM PDT

Although many people all around the world suffer from back pain, there have been a number of back pain myths that have popped up over the years. Here's a list of some of the most common back pain myths:

Back pain always leads to surgery
Surgery to deal with back pain is an option, however that only accounts for a small percentage of back pain suffers. Most people who have back pain won't eventually require surgery.

Back pain can always be traced back to a single event
While this point may seem logical, it's rare that chronic back pain is caused by simply one event. In fact, it's not uncommon for someone to wake up one day and suddenly have persistent back pain.

An X-ray or an MRI can always pinpoint the source of back pain
Not every type of back pain related ailment can be located on an X-ray or on an MRI. This is especially true if the back pain is caused simply by nerves flaring up or inflamed tissues. Many times an X-ray and MRI can show nothing but the patient continues to have back pain.

Exercising exacerbates back pain
In the short-term, exercising can make back pain hurt even more. But a well thought out and strictly followed exercise routine can actually relieve back pain in the long-term. Strengthening the muscles in the back can have a great impact on some types of back pain.

Back pain indicates a herniated disc
Although it's possible, a herniated disc is the cause of back pain less than 35% of the time. Automatically assuming you have a herniated disc on the onset of back pain is not a statistically smart thing to do.

Here is a video that talks more about herniated discs:

Blazers’ Roy to Have Surgery, Miss Suns Series

Posted: 16 Apr 2010 10:54 AM PDT

To say that the Portland Trail Blazers have had an injury-plagued season is a gross understatement. And the hits keep on coming. Blazers guard Brandon Roy, who averaged 21.5 points on the year, will undergo surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee.

Roy was injured in Portland’s win over the Los Angeles Lakers last Sunday. He initially said that he would try to play through the injury for the playoffs, and have the surgery in the offseason.

Roy will miss the Blazers’ series against the Suns, and likely the team’s entire playoff run, as recovery for such a procedure is typically four to six weeks.

On the season, 13 Blazer players missed a combined 311 regular-season games due to injuries, most notably Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla.
