Cinnamon and Diabetes

CinnamonThough there are no miracle foods when it comes to curing Type 2 diabetes, cinnamon might help – yes, cinnamon!

In various studies, cinnamon has been shown to help lower blood glucose levels. Cinnamon also helps lower triglycerides and LDL cholesterol (the bad cholesterol) – so it’s heart healthy too.

Those with liver damage need to be careful with cinnamon because large amounts can increase liver problems in these people.

So what other foods are good for diabetes?

Men’s Health has put together a list of 12 Powerfoods to Beat Diabetes. Perhaps surprisingly, the list includes chocolate and steak!

Eminem “Not Afraid” Track

Posted: 29 Apr 2010 09:50 AM PDT

Eminem’s new single “Not Afraid” premiered on the radio today. The song is from his forthcoming new album Recovery, which is scheduled for a June 22 release.  In an interview with Billboard.com Eminem's manager Paul Rosenberg talked about the album whose title was changed from Relapse 2 to Recovery:

“He [Eminem] had pretty much completed a whole second album worth of material but at some point he took a step back, looked at it and said, 'I think I want to record some more,'” said Rosenberg. "But in recording, the album started to sound so different and was going in such a different direction that he decided to keep it going and turn it into a whole new album. The last album was really for the core Eminem fans. I think this record will open that up a bit."

You can read the “Not Afraid” lyrics at eminemrelapse.net and check out the song below.

Jaguar to Race Orient-Express

Posted: 29 Apr 2010 05:39 AM PDT

Britain’s Octane magazine is racing the famous Jaguar works Long Nose D-type against the Orient-Express. The car left the Victoria train station in London this morning (April 29) to race against the British Orient-Express and then the Venice Simplon Orient-Express, in a 29-hour battle to Venice.

In the late '20s and early '30s, a number of drivers raced against trains. Jonathan Turner, the D-type's owner, will be driving along side Octane Editor Robert Coucher.

“We wanted to recreate the great Days of competition between cars and trains,” said David Barzilay, who is running the project. “The Orient-Express is probably the most famous train in the world, and it seemed fitting that we put one of the most famous British racing cars against it.”

Both the car and train have on board tracking devices from TrackaPhone, giving Octane readers the opportunity to follow the race as it unfolds.

Restore Stephen Baldwin

Posted: 29 Apr 2010 05:08 AM PDT

Actor Stephen Baldwin is apparently bankrupt, like a lot of other celebrities these days. And RestoreStephenBaldwin.org is trying to do something about it. This website is pleading for donations for the lesser-known Baldwin brother to get his life back on track.

Apparently Baldwin is a modern day Job.

The websites Q&A are hilarious as to why you should donate.

Q- What happened to his wealth?
A- When he became an outspoken Christian in 2002 his income went down by 70% when he refused roles with gratuitous sex and violence.

Q- Why does Stephen need personal wealth?
A- Stephen's influence is in Hollywood. Hollywood worships money and without it you are seen as a loser and cannot be an effective influence to this group.

Q- How much money does he need?
A- From what I read in public court documents Stephen needs several million dollars to pay all of his creditors but he deserves hundreds of millions for his Job like faithfulness in the face of relentless loss and persecution.

Stephen Baldwin himself is not behind the website, however his ministry President Daniel Southern apparently gave permission for the site to be established. How much money has Baldwin received so far? Reportedly not much.

HP to Buy Palm for $1.2 Billion

Posted: 28 Apr 2010 08:41 PM PDT

On Wednesday, HP revealed its plans to acquire Palm at the price of $1.2 billion. This deal allows HP to have access to the Palm software that can run smartphones and other devices. Normally HP would have to turn to outside partners for this type of technology.

HP - PalmHP agreed to pay $5.70 a share to acquire Palm. The total value of the deal is $1.4 billion but after you factor in Palm’s cash and debt, HP is paying approximately $1.2 billion.

Palm accounts for only about 5% of smartphone sales in the United States, and has only several hundred applications. In contrast, Apple and Android apps are in the tens of thousands. HP intends to sell phones and what it calls slate computers based on Palm's software.

This deal also bails out Elevation Partners' investment in Palm. Palm took $460 million in financing from Elevation. The firm is expected to receive about $485 million from the deal.
