Big Ben Accused of Sexual Assault Again

Posted: 05 Mar 2010 11:11 PM PST

Ben Roethlisberger is once again in the headlines for the wrong reasons. For the second time, the starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers has been accused of sexual assault. This time, the incident occurred in Milledgeville, Georgia.

A college student, who is said to be 20 years old, accused Roethlisberger of sexual assault on Friday morning. According to the alleged victim, Roethlisberger committed the assault at a nightclub. She was taken to a local hospital and later released.

Roethlisberger was originally accused of sexual assault in 2008. Andrea McNulty claims that Roethlisberger raped her at a hotel she worked at in the city of Lake Tahoe. He has totally denied the claim and has countersued McNulty for damages.

So far the Steelers haven’t commented. For a team with such a proud tradition, this news won’t be ignored. Even though Roethlisberger has brought the team two Super Bowl victories, if these allegations can be proven, Big Ben could be on his way out of Pittsburgh.

Jason Terry Injury Update – Facial Surgery

Posted: 05 Mar 2010 08:21 PM PST

Jason Terry of the Dallas Mavericks will need to undergo facial surgery to repair a broken orbital bone on the left side of his face. That’s the bad news. The good news is the surgery should only sideline him about two weeks.

On the season, Terry is averaging 17 points per game to go along with 3.8 assists in 33.9 minutes. He’s shooting 43.7% from the floor, 36.4% from the free throw line and 86.3% on three-pointers. The 32-year-old shooting guard out of Arizona is regarded as one of the top bench players in the NBA.

To replace Terry in the lineup, the Mavs will turn to a number of players. Caron Butler and DeShawn Stevenson, both recently acquired via trade from the Washington Wizards, will play more at shooting guard. JJ Barea and rookie Roddy Beaubois, who both usually play point guard, will see more minutes alongside Jason Kidd.

On Friday night, the Mavs beat the Sacramento Kings 108-100 to win their 10th straight game. They currently sit atop the Southwest Division and are in second place in the Western Conference standings behind only the Los Angeles Lakers.

Julius Peppers Signs with the Chicago Bears

Posted: 05 Mar 2010 08:12 PM PST

To the surprise of nobody, the Chicago Bears landed the biggest fish in NFL free agency. Julius Peppers, formerly of the Carolina Panthers, has signed a deal with the Bears that could be worth as much as $110 million over the next seven seasons — $42 million of which is guaranteed.

When playing at his highest level, the 6-foot-7, 283-pound defensive end is almost impossible to stop. Not only does he have great size, his speed and athleticism are both off the charts. At 30, Peppers should have at least a few great years left in the tank.

Last season, Peppers had 10.5 sacks, 42 tackles, five forced fumbles and two interceptions. He’s had at least 10.5 sacks in six of his eight seasons in the NFL. In 2008, he had a career-high 14.5 sacks.

With the Bears, Peppers will try to make Chicago a defensive force once again. The team uncharacteristically struggled on defense last year and the front office has made it their mission to address areas of concern on that side of the field.

Early on during the free agency period, it became obvious that the most likely destination for Peppers was in Chicago. On the first day that NFL free agents could sign with a new team, the Bears didn’t waste any time landing the top name on the open market.
