| Posted: 07 Mar 2010 08:47 PM PST One cocktail that most people seem to love is the Appletini. For your next party, serve up a batch using SKYY vodka and sour apple liqueur. Martinis are easy to make and this one is a fresh choice for spring.
Method: Mix SKYY Vodka and sour apple liqueur in a shaker filled with ice. Shake and serve in a cocktail glass. Top with a splash of lemon lime soda and garnish with a green apple wedge. Image and recipe courtesy of SKYY vodka Post from: EveryJoe |
| Posted: 07 Mar 2010 07:10 PM PST If you don’t have the nerve to break up with your significant other (or just don’t want to put in the effort), check out iDUMP4u.com — they’ll do it for you. They will call your boyfriend or girlfriend (or even your fiance or spouse) and do the dirty work for you. The cost is minimal.
Though I can’t imagine anyone telling their wife that they want a divorce through this service, some of the basic breakup calls are pretty funny. The calls are recorded (with identifying info edited out) and then uploaded to their YouTube channel for everyone’s amusement. Check out this breakup…apparently Clark likes Farmville a little too much for his girlfriend’s liking. What’s the worst way that you have broken up with someone? Leave your comments here and let us know. Post from: EveryJoe |
| Lakers Lose Third Straight Game Posted: 07 Mar 2010 02:44 PM PST Despite more late heroics by Kobe Bryant, the Los Angeles Lakers weren’t able to stop their losing streak and have now lost three straight games. In a rematch of the 2009 NBA Finals, the Orlando Magic defeated the Lakers by a final score of 96-94. With the Lakers trailing by five points with 42 seconds remaining, Bryant hit a three-pointer to bring L.A. within two points. Jameer Nelson then split a pair at the line. With 12 seconds to go, Bryant nailed a long two-pointer to make it a one-point affair. After Vince Carter went 1-for-2 at the charity stripe, Bryant missed a 20-footer at the buzzer that would have sent the game into overtime. The Magic were led by Carter’s 25 points. Dwight Howard had 15 points, 16 rebounds and two blocked shots. With the win, the Magic are in second place in the Eastern Conference — five games behind the Cleveland Cavaliers. Bryant led the way for the Lakeshow with 34 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and only one turnover. Pau Gasol chipped in with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Even with the loss, the Lakers continue to have a strong lead over the rest of the field in the Western Conference. ![]() Image: Zuma Press Post from: EveryJoe Lakers Lose Third Straight Game |
| Academy Awards Blacked Out for Millions Posted: 07 Mar 2010 02:27 PM PST A fight between ABC and Cablevision could leave more than three million customers in the dark for Sunday night’s Academy Awards broadcast. Those Cablevision customers are in the states of Connecticut, New Jersey and New York. As is usually the case between networks and cable providers, the dispute is over fees. And as can be expected, each company is blaming the other company. Said a spokeswoman for Disney, which owns ABC: “Cablevision has once again betrayed its subscribers. Cablevision pocketed almost $8 billion last year, and now customers aren’t getting what they pay for … again.” Said an executive VP for Cablevision: “It is now painfully clear to millions of New York area households that Disney CEO Bob Iger will hold his own ABC viewers hostage in order to extract $40 million in new fees from Cablevision.” If you are one of the unlucky people affected by this battle between billion dollar companies, the best thing to do is to hook up an antenna and watch ABC for free. Another option is to try to find a live stream of ABC online. ![]() Image: Zuma Press Post from: EveryJoe Academy Awards Blacked Out for Millions |
| Toyota Focusing on Sales, Not Recalls Posted: 07 Mar 2010 02:11 PM PST In recent months, Toyota has been battered in the press due to numerous recalls. The world’s largest automaker has seen sales plummet as a result. Now, instead of focusing on the recalled cars and apologizing for the inconvenience, the Japanese car company is once again focusing on sales.
The most troubling of the issues that led to the recalls involved sticking accelerators. Findings showed that the accelerator pedal could stick and potentially cause fatal accidents. In late January, Toyota suspended the sales of eight of their models. In February, Toyota saw sales drop by nearly ten percent. With this new shift in focus to sales instead of apologies, it will be interesting to see what the month of March holds for Toyota. | Posted: 07 Mar 2010 12:53 PM PST Aaron Kampman, formerly of the Green Bay Packers, has signed a deal to join the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 30-year-old defensive ace is 6-foot-4 and 260 pounds and has played all eight seasons in the NFL with the Packers. While Kampman made his name as a defensive end, he played linebacker last season for the Packers. For the Jaguars, he’s very likely to be headed back to defensive end. The main reason why the Jaguars went after Kampman is due to the fact that they desperately need players who can get to the quarterback. In 2009, Jacksonville was last in the NFL with 14 sacks. Kampman will no doubt help the Jags rack up the sacks. In fact, he had 15.5 sacks by himself in 2006. He followed that up 12 in 2007 and 9.5 in 2008. Last year, he played only 9 games due to injury and totaled just 3.5 sacks. If Kampman can bounce back, prove his healthy and get back to sacking the opposing QB, the Jaguars will be thrilled with this free agent signing. ![]() Image: Zuma Press Post from: EveryJoe |
| Four More Banks Closed by Feds Posted: 06 Mar 2010 08:37 PM PST Since the beginning of 2009, 162 banks have been closed by federal regulators. You can add four more banks to that list as banks in Utah, Florida, Illinois and Maryland were shut down this weekend. In Ogden, Utah, Centennial Bank was closed. Boca Raton, Florida saw Sun American Bank get shut down, while Bank of Illinois was closed in Normal, Illinois. The Maryland bank that closed by the feds was Waterfield Bank in the city of Germantown.
Of those four banks, Sun American Bank was by far the largest — with assets totaling more than $535 million. The other three had assets less than $210 million. Taking on Sun American Bank will be First-Citizens Bank, which is located in North Carolina. With all the banks being closed around the country, First Citizens Bank has actively been gobbling up the failed banks. This is their fourth such transaction. The failure of Sun American Bank alone is expected to cost the FDIC more than $100 million. Image: istockphoto Post from: EveryJoe Four More Banks Closed by Feds |
| Posted: 06 Mar 2010 08:27 PM PST The Minnesota Twins have dreams of the 2010 baseball playoffs. But without superstar closer Joe Nathan, the Twins’ chances would be very slim. With that in mind, Twins fans should be thankful that Nathan’s recent injury scare doesn’t appear to be serious.
Ron Gardenhire, the manager of the Twins, thinks Nathan will be fine. Said Gardenhire: “Just general soreness just like it always is when you throw. He felt stiffness out there pitching and, as he told me, he just felt a little tight and we’re not going to push that at all. Get him off the mound and we’ll go from there.” Last season, Nathan had 47 saves to go along with a 2.10 ERA. Since joining the Twins prior to the 2004 season, Nathan has had at least 36 saves in each season. Only twice has his ERA been higher than 1.88. Image: MLB.com Post from: EveryJoe |

On Saturday, Nathan was forced to leave a spring training game due to discomfort in his right elbow. In the offseason, Nathan had surgery on that very elbow. Obviously, everyone was concerned following the ballgame.
