Chick of the Day: Brooklyn Decker

Posted: 09 Mar 2010 10:38 AM PST

This blonde bombshell was discovered in a shopping mall as a teenager. Since then, Brooklyn Decker has graced the pages of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition every year since 2006 and was the cover girl of the 2010 edition.

You may have also seen Brooklyn on the television screen, as she has made several guest appearances in a variety of popular T.V. shows and recently appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman to reveal her cover girl status. She’s married to tennis star Andy Roddick.

Aroldis Chapman Throws 100 MPH

Posted: 08 Mar 2010 08:53 PM PST

Aroldis Chapman, the 22-year-old Cuban defector, had a lot of teams interested in signing him during the winter. In a recent exhibition game, he showed exactly why when he hit 100 MPH on the radar gun.

The Cincinnati Reds won the bidding for Chapman when they signed him to a six-year deal worth more than $30 million. Already the Reds have to be happy with their investment. Besides throwing 100 MPH, Chapman went two scoreless innings and picked up the win over the Kansas City Royals.

Chapman’s role going forward is a bit of a mystery. If he proves he’s ready, the Reds may opt to put him in their starting rotation. Another option is to use him out of the bullpen. Beginning his career in the minors is also a very real possibility.

After catching the eyes of MLB scouts at the World Baseball Classic while pitching for Cuba, the left-hander defected and instantly became a hot commodity on the free agent market. A number of teams were said to be interested — from the Boston Red Sox to the Florida Marlins. But the Reds offered the most money and won his services.

Cincinnati is a longshot to make the 2010 baseball playoffs but with a number of quality pitchers including Johnny Cueto, Edinson Volquez and Chapman, their future is bright.

Allen Iverson Sees Life Fall Apart

Posted: 08 Mar 2010 08:52 PM PST

If you are a fan of Allen Iverson, you should be worried about him. According to a report by Stephen A. Smith in the Philadelphia Inquirer, Iverson is battling serious alcohol and gambling issues. Not only does his NBA career appear to be over but so does his marriage.

The scary truth was in Smith’s column: “Iverson will either drink himself into oblivion or gamble his life away.”

Tawanna, his wife of more than eight years, filed for divorce earlier in the month and is seeking alimony, child support and full custody of the five children.

On the basketball court, Iverson has been able to adjust to his diminished skills. The 34-year-old is not the player he once was. In 28 games with the Memphis Grizzlies and Philadelphia 76ers this season, Iverson is averaging 13.8 points per game — a far cry from when he used to be able to put up 30 points in his sleep.

Iverson is still young enough to turn his basketball life around, however those close to him are more concerned about just turning his life around. He’s following a destructive path and without basketball or family as an outlet, the ending to Iverson’s story could be tragic.

Chad Pennington Back with the Dolphins

Posted: 08 Mar 2010 08:51 PM PST

Chad Pennington has a history of bouncing back from serious shoulder injuries. He’ll try to do that once again in 2010 after re-signing with the Miami Dolphins. The 33-year-old led the Dolphins to the playoffs in 2008 but was only able to play three games in 2009 before requiring shoulder surgery for the third time.

In 2010, expect Pennington to be the Dolphins’ backup quarterback behind Chad Henne. Henne filled in last year for Pennington and played increasingly well as the season progressed.

With Pennington back on the roster, that means QB Tyler Thigpen will likely move to another team. The third quarterback for the Dolphins in 2010 will likely be Pat White.

The previous two times Pennington underwent shoulder surgery, he came back and won the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award. A third time is unlikely, however history tells us it is unwise to count out Pennington.
