NBA Loophole: Big Z Back in Cleveland Posted: 24 Mar 2010 08:40 AM PDT A month ago, Zydrunas Ilgauskas was traded by the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Washington Wizards in a move that brought Antawn Jamison to Cleveland. Shortly after the trade, the Wizards waived the 7-foot-3 center. This week, Cleveland re-signed Big Z. For those scoring at home, that means the Cavs were able to have their cake and eat it too. It’s a loophole that teams have exploited quite a bit in the last few years — and the time has come for the NBA to address this issue. It’s simply not fair, especially for teams that don’t have a lot of unlimited money. By using the loophole, rich teams can improve without losing anything of value. That goes against the spirit of the sport. As far as this trade is concerned, the Cavs can really use Big Z now. Shaquille O’Neal could miss the rest of the regular season due to a broken thumb and now Ilgauskas can step right back in. The duo of Big Z and Jamison — not to mention LeBron James — will be difficult for teams to handle. Post from: EveryJoe NBA Loophole: Big Z Back in Cleveland |
NFL Changes Overtime Rule, Makes Mistake Posted: 23 Mar 2010 08:55 PM PDT The NFL decided to change their rules of how a game is won in overtime. One problem: The new rules are only for postseason play. The regular season overtime rules will remain the same. The new rules are relatively simple. In an overtime playoff game, the team that gets the ball first can win with a touchdown. However, a field goal will no longer win the game. Instead, the other team will get a chance to kick a field goal to tie or a touchdown to win. In the case that both teams kick field goals, the game will continue. The next team to score getting the win. That’s all fine and dandy. But what about the regular season? Those rules still state that the first team to score wins. The glaring problem with those rules is the fact that the coin toss becomes the biggest determining factor of which team will win. If the NFL is going to change the rule for the playoffs, the rule should also be altered for the regular season. Not only does it make logical sense, it could lead to awkward moments of fans celebrating what they thought was a playoff victory … and not knowing the other team gets a chance to tie or win. That would be embarrassing. Post from: EveryJoe NFL Changes Overtime Rule, Makes Mistake |
Jose Reyes’ Thyroid Levels Normal Posted: 23 Mar 2010 08:55 PM PDT Earlier in the month, Jose Reyes of the New York Mets was diagnosed with a hyperactive thyroid. To treat the condition, doctors told him to rest and change his diet. On Tuesday, it was determined that Reyes can once again resume playing baseball due to his thyroid levels having normalized. This was obviously great news for the Mets and for Reyes. Said Mets GM Omar Minaya: “It’s a good sign for us today and, hopefully, it will be a good sign for the rest of the year. Today is a good day.” Regarded as one of the best players in the baseball, the 26-year-old shortstop has found it difficult to stay on the field. He only played 36 games last season due to hamstring issues. The uncertainty of the hyperactive thyroid threatened his 2010 baseball season. With the Mets season set to start on April 5th, it’s unknown whether or not Reyes will be ready to go. That said, Reyes has insisted that he is healthy and wants to play … so my guess is that he’ll be in uniform on Day 1. Post from: EveryJoe Jose Reyes’ Thyroid Levels Normal |
