Butler, West Virginia Head to Final Four

Posted: 28 Mar 2010 05:57 AM PDT

The No. 5-seeded Butler Bulldogs upset the No. 2-seeded Kansas State Wildcats 63-56 on Saturday to advance to the Final Four. The Bulldogs now head to downtown Indy – just five miles from their own campus. This will be the school’s first Final Four appearance ever.

Gordon Hayward led the way for Butler with 22 points and nine boards, while Shelvin Mack chipped in 16. But it was the defense that sealed the victory for Butler.

Guards Ronald Nored and Willie Veasley smothered K-State stars Jacob Pullen and Denis Clemente with in-your-face defense, holding the duo to a combined 11-for-30 shooting and just 32 points. In Thursday’s regional semi, the two had combined for 53. On the game, Kansas State shot just 38.6% from the field.

West Virginia is also headed to Indianapolis. The Mountaineers topped the Kentucky Wildcats 73-66 in the East Regional final on Saturday night. Joe Mazzulla, filling in for the injured Darryl Bryant, scored a career-high 17 points. It was his first start this season.

The No.1-seeded Wildcats just couldn’t buy a bucket. They missed their first 20 attempts from 3-point range, and finished the game 4-for-32 from beyond the arc. But it wasn’t just a bad shooting night for Kentucky, the Mountaineers’ defense played a big part. They collapsed in the lane, keeping the Wildcats guards from penetrating and frustrating bigman DeMarcus Cousins. Kentucky also went 16-for-29 from the free throw line.

Da’Sean Butler led the way for West Virginia with 18 points, while John Wall had 19 points, nine boards, five assists, and four steals for Kentucky.

Cancer Risk-Reducing Foods

Posted: 27 Mar 2010 11:03 PM PDT

We all know that cancer can strike anyone at any time in many different parts of the body. And certain types of cancer oftentimes result in death. Though many forms of cancer can be curable, it is important to try to incorporate foods into your diet that reduce the risk of cancer so that you hopefully never have to face the disease. Although there is no specific diet that can guarantee you the best cancer fighting combination, some foods can help.

Phytochemicals
Research in the field of cancer risk-reducing foods has concluded that phytochemicals have a hand in reducing the risk for certain types of cancers. Some foods that are good sources of various types of phytochemicals include red and blue fruits, leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, onions, garlic, soybeans, tomatoes, legumes, wine, green tea and cruciferous vegetables.

Antioxidants
Antioxidants are substances that act as protective agents within the body. Consuming foods high in antioxidants is thought to ward off certain types of cancer as well. Foods that contain vitamin C, beta carotene, and vitamin E are high in antioxidants. This includes citrus fruits, carrots, squash, collards, sunflower seeds, whole wheat and other similar foods.

Omega-3
Omega-3 fatty acids are being studied by researchers who see a link between the substance and the slowing of tumor development. Foods high in omega-3 fatty acids include many types of seafood, flaxseed oil and several types of beans. If you have already been diagnosed with cancer or even if you have a benign tumor, adding omega-3 fatty acids to your diet is extremely important.

Does Age Matter?

Sure, age is just a number, but would you date a woman 10 years (or more) older than you? I’m not talking about going home with a cougar for a night but rather a committed relationship.
