LaDainian Tomlinson Signs with the Jets

Posted: 14 Mar 2010 08:55 PM PDT

Free agent LaDainian Tomlinson narrowed down his choices to the New York Jets and the Minnesota Vikings. On Sunday, he decided to join the Jets. New York gave him a two-year deal that could be worth as much as $5.6 million.

While Tomlinson isn’t at his peak any longer, the Jets are hoping that their dominant offensively line can help him turn back the clock. His ability to catch the ball out of the backfield should be an asset to second-year quarterback Mark Sanchez in 2010.

Last year, Tomlinson rushed for 730 yards and scored 12 touchdowns. Though those numbers sound good, it has to be noted that he had an ugly per rush average of 3.3 yards. It was also the first time in Tomlinson’s career that he didn’t have at least 1,100 rushing yards.

The Jets had an opening at running back after allowing Thomas Jones to leave the team and sign with the Kansas City Chiefs. Tomlinson will share the running back duties in New York with Shonn Greene and Leon Washington.

Could the Cardinals Trade Albert Pujols?

Posted: 14 Mar 2010 08:55 PM PDT

Albert Pujols is regarded by almost everyone as the best player in the baseball. He’s been extremely consistent in his career and has a chance to establish himself as one of the best players ever. But could the St. Louis Cardinals possibly consider trading him?

While it’s unlikely, ESPN recently reported that the Philadelphia Phillies have had internal discussions about offering Ryan Howard for Pujols. The thinking is that the Cardnals may be open to moving Pujols due to his impending free agency after the 2011 season.

When Pujols hits free agency, he could very well get the richest contract in Major League Baseball history. Would the Cardinals pay that? Can they afford it? If they won’t or can’t, expect a number of teams to make big offers to lure away the sure-fire Hall of Famer.

Last season, Pujols hit .327 with 47 homers, 135 RBIs and 124 runs. He also had 16 stolen bases, 45 doubles and a career-high 115 walks. At 30 years of age, it’s scary to think that his best years may be ahead of him.

Mass Effect 2 Review

Posted: 14 Mar 2010 08:55 PM PDT

Even after the massive success of Dragon Age: Origins at the end of 2009, BioWare chose not to rest on its laurels. Instead, the hit-making game developer rolled out its next blockbuster just a few months later in the form of Mass Effect 2. The sequel to BioWare's groundbreaking Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 improves on virtually every complaint that plagued its predecessor's legacy while providing a fresh new romp through Commander Shepard's world.

Fans of the first game will be happy to know that Mass Effect 2 picks up shortly after the end of Mass Effect 1. Commander Shepard and the rest of the crew of the Normandy are on patrol when the ship is attacked, causing widespread chaos and the death of Shepard. Fortunately, Cerberus is able to retrieve Shepard's body and bring the galactic hero back to life over the course of two years, just in time for Shepard to embark on an adventure to save the universe from a new threat.

Players that completed the first Mass Effect game are able to import their saved data into Mass Effect 2, a relic from games of yore that is incorporated extremely well. Even if you're starting from scratch, Mass Effect 2's character creation allows you to customize everything from your exact eye size and mouth shape to your military background and character class.

Veterans of the first game will be very familiar with Mass Effect 2's combat system, one that skillfully combines third-person shooter elements with a strong RPG underpinning. Controlling Shepard and your two party members involves the use of pause-and-play mechanics and a radial wheel that gives you easy access to your party's skills and equipment. Mass Effect 2's thrilling combat system keeps you on the edge of your seat and requires a refreshing dose of tactics, but your hand-eye coordination will also be tested.

Bioware obviously listened to the fans when developing Mass Effect 2, as the tedious exploration of generic planets and the strange pseudo-loading screens are gone. However, planet scanning, Mass Effect 2's way of earning money for upgrades and gear, is arguably as tedious. The copious amount of side quests and the huge main plot more than make up for tedious mini-games.

All in all, fans of the first game are all but guaranteed to have a blast with Mass Effect 2, but even newcomers will find plenty to enjoy in this title. Fans looking for a traditional RPG romp might not enjoy the action-packed combat system, but for the rest of us, Mass Effect 2 is definitely not a title to miss.

Anderson Varejao Hustles Cavs Past Celtics

Posted: 14 Mar 2010 08:55 PM PDT

When the Cleveland Cavaliers take the floor, you can count on LeBron James putting on a show. Against the Celtics on Sunday, LeBron was again very good — but it was Anderson Varejao who stole the show as the Cavs beat the Celtics 104-93.

Doc Rivers, the head coach of the Celtics, was very impressed by what he saw from the Brazilian bigman.

Said Rivers: “I thought one guy completely dominated the game and that was Varejao. Loose balls, activity, getting under our skin — he’s doing what he should do. That was very frustrating.”

In 30 minutes of action, Varejao had 17 points, ten rebounds, two assists and countless hustle plays. LeBron was Lebron — finishing with 30 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, three blocks and two steals. The Cavs improved to 52-15, easily the best record in basketball.

The Celtics, on the other hand, are heading in the opposite direction. They’ve now lost three out of their last four games. At 41-24, the Celtics are the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference.

Dodd to Introduce Financial Reform Bill

Posted: 14 Mar 2010 08:29 PM PDT

At a time when Americans have begun to question the ability of Congress to take action and make changes, Senate Democrats will soon move forward with a bill that aims to overhaul the nation's financial system. Senator Chris Dodd, Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, will introduce the bill on Monday.

The bill seems to be an attempt to create a consensus between the Republicans and the Democrats regarding changes to the nation's financial system, incorporating ideas from both parties.

One of the most recent provisions of the bill to be revealed is one that will attempt to reduce Wall Street's influence on the Federal Reserve Bank of New York by giving the U.S. president the power to appoint its president. Another rule would force bank officers from sitting on the New York Fed's board.

Considering the amount of debate over the bill, which has been going on for months, it remains to be seen whether or not Democrats will be able to get the votes to pass it.

Who Will Win the 2010 NBA Championship?

Posted: 14 Mar 2010 05:06 PM PDT

All eyes are on the Lakers and the Cavaliers. Do any other teams have a legitimate chance to win the NBA title this season? Could Orlando make some noise? And what about the Mavericks? Their 13-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday night with the a loss to the Knicks, but they are definitely in the hunt with a record of 45-22 (first in the Southwest division).
